Okay, this is probably more appropriate for an "ask slashdot" piece, but I think it fits here too.

I'm getting a new laptop in 2 days, and it's going to have NT 4 installed on it. It's a very nice machine (esp. compared to anything I've had before), with a Celeron 466 (the use the desktop processors!) 128 megs of RAM, and a pretty nice video card, and other neat things. What I was wondering was, how hard would it be to get everything up in running with linux? I'm most likely going to want a dual-boot environment as well... and I have a 3COM PCMCIA 10/100 +56k Modem card... will that work alright? Just looking for general ideas and opinions as to the possibilities I'll have with this. Thanks.

    Floppies are far from dead.

This is much comparable to tapes and cd's. Sure cd's are way more popular now than tapes, but tapes still exist, and people still make their own. Why? It's cheaper and easier to do. Until CD-R's and DVD-writers and other removable storage become alot cheaper (and bootable) Floppies will be around
I work for a local ISP and many many times we have to use floppies to run out to somebody's house and fix something for them. It is much faster and efficient to format 8 floppies and put the stuff on them you need than to post it to a website and then download it over a modem (Esp. if they can't even get connnected.)
    SneakerNets will never die!

I must say that I find it disturbing that we have to go to lengths like this to make things better for everyone. It is much this way in the real world as well, and was really only a matter of time before it came to /. as well. For example, the same thing with labeling's on coffee stating that it is hot, or any kind of sign declaring common sense to the world, in case we forgot about it. People whom abuse those privleges given to them (posting comments would be one these privleges) deserve to have them taken away. It's just a real shame that we have to do this for people like that. More of this world needs to grow up, or it will never leave its infancy.

I think that we need to vote for non-partyism. Political parties have led to alot of problems in our government, such as lame duck sessions and so forth. All they do is create great divides among people, which leads to hatred among citizens, and people despising those of other "parties" Political parties are pointless IMHO. I see nothing wrong with maybe hanging out with people who share your views and so forth, but by creating parties like this, you are creating an incredibly exclusive group, because you exclude anybody who does fully agree with you. w/o political parties, people would be more likely to come forth with their own ideas and views rather than those of their parties. Abolish political parties!

If you value your job enough, and let them know it, I doubt they'll threaten your job with it. That, or demand that if they won't do it themselves, that you'll simply cover everything up. I think that'll make em think.
