  2. Re:Simple on Apple Acknowledges iPhone 5 Camera Flaw · · Score: 2, Insightful

Actually, the probably are -- as I posted below, the iPhone 5 picture is looking much more towards the sun (given the amount of tree in the pictures) than the others by at least a few degrees, so yes, the person is holding it wrong. No digital camera can make up for looking directly into the sun. Poor photographer = poor picture.

  3. similar and yet very different pictures on Apple Acknowledges iPhone 5 Camera Flaw · · Score: 1

Of course, these are all similar and yet very different pictures. The iPhone 5 picture is pointed much more directly towards the sun given the amount of the tree that is in the picture. The cloud cover also looks different meaning that the pictures were not even taken at the same time. This argument may be more believable if the pictures were same angle, same time of day, same everything. I'm guessing just about any digital camera will have a large amount of flare when looking directly into the sun.

Right. It made sense to buy the Touchpad at fire-sale prices because it was good hardware, had a good web browser, good email and some decent apps. On the other hand, the Playbook doesn't even have a built-in email application that doesn't require tethering to a Blackberry, meaning its pretty much useless as a couch device, and the apps just plain suck.

Not only that, but how much extra will it cost parents who need to pay for care for younger children who would otherwise be in school. We know some parents like to treat schools as babysitters, but in any case, now they will really need one. Guess they maybe shouldn't have complained about a slight tax increase to pay for their kids education.

Part of the reason that I'm pissed off by this version a week crap is that plugins that should work no longer do, simply because they expect a version number. Google Toolbar doesn't work because of that. That's a serious WTF moment.

The original poster said expanded basic, and not basic. Comcast's "analog crush" still sends the locals (ie, basic) as analog (at least here in Boston) - its just the expanded basic that are now digital-only. In any case, the analog crush is a very good thing to many of us. It means far more HD channels become available. Depending on the compression used, 1 analog channel takes the same bandwidth as at least 2 HD channels (though Comcast seems to want to squeeze 3 into that space) or something crazy like 20+ digital SD channels.

I am guessing that the price that the retailer pays for a movie for comes down over time as well, but that is just a guess. I mean, you have all of these $2.99 and $3.99 movies, I'm sure that the retailer didn't pay more than $1 or $2 for them to begin with.

  23. Re:It's a plan on Netflix Will Delay Renting New WB Releases · · Score: 3, Insightful

I agree on the 2nd sentence there -- I won't buy a movie unless I've seen it. There were 1 or 2 overhyped movies that I bought prior to watching them, and never again. If they are delaying my ability to see it first, they are only delaying my ability to purchase it. And if I've waited a month after its come out already, I might as well wait a few more months for it to hit the bargain bin price. So not only have they lost out on me being able to purchase it, they've lost out on my purchasing it anywhere near the "retail" price. Good work. Epic FAIL.
