  1. Rather than only detonating when and where I want it to, my primary concern is that it not detonate any other time and place, detonating at the correct time and place is just a bonus.

  3. Honestly, in the event of an all out nuclear war I'm kind of ok with them not working.

    I have two main criteria for a nuclear missile system:
    1. must be convincing enough for foreign governments to believe it will work, which would generally mean the people using it have to believe it will work
    2. must not launch without proper authorization

    Actually launching with proper authorization is optional.

  4. Also a lot harder to hack into than a modern system would be.

    They didn't want to reveal their exposure because they wanted to get somewhere it could actually be treated. If they caught it in the US, they would've reported it immediately.

    I don't know that the death penalty significantly reduces recidivism when compared to life in prison.

    Without the appearance of pain, the execution doesn't satisfy the desire for revenge, which is the driving motive behind the death penalty.

    The real explanation, execution drugs make up a tiny amount of profit for them, the advertising and good image they project by making this declaration is far more valuable.

    If you use CO2, then yes, it's not painless. Using nitrogen instead causes the person to pass out and die.

    No, with nitrogen asphyxiation you replace the oxygen with nitrogen and the subject just passes out then dies from lack of oxygen. There's not even the sensation of choking to death that you'd get with CO2.

    The bends is caused by pressure differentials causing bubbles to form inside the bloodstream or other bodily fluids.

    It is illegal, notice how the johns are getting prosecuted and the prostitutes are getting let go.

    That's defacto the way it is in the area the article is about. It doesn't reduce the underground trade because the women don't generally realize they can go to the police for help, or if they do realize it, they don't get the opportunity.

    I can reasonably assume that no one is eavesdropping on a conversation I have while walking down an empty street. It is therefore illegal (in a two party consent state) to record the conversation without both me and the person/people I am talking to agreeing to it.

    CA is a 2 party consent state, meaning not only do both parties have to be informed, they have to agree to be recorded.

    It is entirely reasonable to assume that devoting resources to one thing means that less resources are available for other things. This is the entire basis for Obama's stance on immigration.

    Would help the corporation's bottom line but wouldn't do anything for the franchises, unless you think they'd actually pass the savings on by reducing franchise fees.
