    If there is an entity that can and does affect results in an intelligent way (let's call it god) it is impossible to reproduce any conditions completely. Because of this, science cannot have any opinion on the existence or non-existence of such an entity.

    However we can create objects of known mass and test their attraction at various distances. As far as I know no one has created a model of the earth to test global warming or bred a large number of animals to create a new species.

    Except the hacker didn't create the holes in the network, so any costs devoted to finding and fixing them shouldn't be included, only the costs of detecting and fixing the damage itself should be included.

    Just set up the computers to face the wall, it requires only a small amount more space and affords a reasonable degree of privacy. You don't need to keep people from being able to see the screens, you just need to make it so they only see them if they want to.

    Such a change wouldn't help if the person in question didn't desire privacy while looking at porn like the person in the article.

    Pleading not guilty or appealing could also be civil disobedience, as long as you're not denying what you did, just claiming that it wasn't or shouldn't be illegal.

    You only spend 1/3 of what someone with a new car spends if that person is buying a new car every year, if they're buying one every 5 years then trading it in, (for someone like you to buy) they're spending less on the car and less on maintenance.

    Orbital solar satellite beaming energy to a ground based station, you can figure out the rest. Or for one with current designs, liquid sodium tank used to store energy ruptures and reacts with something. (disclaimer: I don't actually know if they use pure sodium or a compound for those tanks)

    And yet, the files are neither taken nor used without their owner's permission. The content of the files may be, since the content owner and the file owner are different people, but that's covered under copyright infringement, not theft.

    While I don't think it really applies to most of the ways this clause is used, in this case it seems appropriate since the bill would only ensure that existing taxes are enforced.

    I can only think of a few ways we could run out of IP addresses with IPv6. First and most likely, if they are allocated in blocks far too big for any reasonable use. Second, if we develop an interstellar network. Third, if we develop nanotechnology to the point of making self replicating machines, each with their own IP.

    While you make some good points about the statistics used, a couple points. First, deaths per TWh is more appropriate than deaths per man hour since you're comparing the safety of the power source, not the safety of the job. Second, including nuclear weapons might be good for showing what public perception of danger is, but it would be unreasonable to consider them as relevant to power safety. Besides, if you include deaths by nuclear weapons you would also have to include deaths by gunpowder in the coal power and traffic accidents in oil.

    We can assume that they would breathe either way so having them work in the mines wouldn't increase that. In fact, they would probably breathe for a shorter period from working in the mines resulting in a net gain.
