I agree with hip to waist ratio although I've a feeling that it won't give the most vociferous BMI deniers the validation they seek. Calipers aren't great and immersing in water isn't really very practical. In any case focusing on the fact that the measure isn't perfect instead of recognising that there is a significant problem with obesity is not helping anyone.
So what's your easy to understand rule of thumb as to whether someone is overweight / obese or not? BMI isn't the be all and end all but all I've heard is that it's shit due to powerlifters, not what should be used instead.
I don't understand why Disney want this so badly. All their characters are trademarked so no one can use them even if their films enter the public domain.
Does that make a significant difference? I remember all sorts of sexism such as female doctors were assumed to be nurses because "women couldn't be doctors" but that didn't stop women from thriving in other fields. What makes STEM different?
Every argument against BMI is based on outliers and denial. OMG rugby players are obese so it doesn't matter that my BMI is 45. If your doctor is concerned about your weight then you should be listening to them, not trying to pretend the issue doesn't exist. Food addicts are just like any other addicts: they look for justifications as to why their addiction isn't bad.
And those models are heavily criticised for promoting eating disorders whilst someone like Tess Holliday is held up as an example of body positivity when being that size is extremely dangerous. BMI may not be perfect but all I hear is denial, not a better alternative.
There aren't many adults with a BMI that low. There are many above 30. There are few people starving but there are millions eating themselves to death.
Women have also faced sexism in medicine, the legal progression, accountancy and many other fields but seem to be thriving. What makes the STEM assholes more terrifying than those in other professions?
I have done this countless times on Windows and have never had a problem. Neither have any of the people who come to me for tech support. Why can't Apple users have the same?
No you don't. You pull the drive out and it doesn't complain. You put the drive back in and all your files are still there. Apparently there's a miniscule chance of disk corruption but I've yet to come across it even on FAT16 never mind NTFS.
I'm not living in a fantasy world. Elop destroyed Nokia. It wasn't in that kind of trouble before he joined and started wrecking it. You clearly don't realise how popular Nokia phones were and how badly Elop and Microsoft ruined them. They might've died anyway but who knows. They're certainly gone now. Elop did his job too well.
I've been quite a vocal critic of the Linux desktop lately but after being told I was wrong (and a shill and a moron, this being Slashdot) I recently decided to have a go at using the latest Ubuntu. I installed it and the process was a breeze. It recognised all my hardware and it seemed to work nicely.
I'd read that Netflix was available via Chrome so I went to the Software Manager to look for Chrome. Due to religious reasons it wasn't available there but you could download the package directly from Google.
I did that, doubleclicked the icon from Firefox and it opened the software manager. I clicked install and nothing happened. I clicked it again and nothing happened.
This was a bit shit but I've used Ubuntu in the past so I dropped to the command line. Using dpkg -i it told me that there were two missing dependencies. I tried to install dependency 1 and it said it needed dependency 2. I tried to install dependency 2 and it said it needed dependency 1. At the same time there was a red warning on the taskbar saying something about my package database being corrupt!
After about half an hour of fruitless internet searches I decided to list any packages related to Chrome in case Chromium was on there getting in my way. I found to my annoyance that dpkg had installed Chrome even though it was missing a couple of dependencies. I removed Chrome, installed the two dependencies manually and away I went. The package database corruption message also disappeared.
I built a Windows machine recently. I had Chrome up and running within 5 minutes.
If the main "consumer-friendly" Linux distro is capable of turning something so basic into a hassle then it's never going to be ready for the desktop of the average user. The lack of any kind of feedback from the Software Centre is very poor UI design and dpkg installing a package with unmet dependencies seems to be in contradiction to all the other package management systems I've used over the years.
Did you even read the article. It talks about cash reserves not debt in 2012 and this is two years after Stephen Elop was hired. Had they stuck with Meego or gone Android who knows what would've happened. Instead Elop destroyed them with a succession of terrible decisions including cancelling smartphones that were selling well and not having a new product for 18 months at a time when the smartphone market was booming. Nokia was an incredibly strong consumer brand. A good CEO could've turned them around. Instead they got conned by a Microsoft employee who ran the company into the ground and then, by an amazing coincidence, Microsoft got to buy them at a knockdown price.
Were they? Missed that one. You wouldn't happen to have a citation for that? 18 months without anything to sell probably did more damage than any poor decisions before that. They failed to learn from the mistakes of other mobile manufacturers when they got into bed with the great destroyer.
It couldn't have been much worse than what did happen. Nokia was a very strong consumer brand, a high quality Nokia Android could've been a success. At least they'd have been in control of their own destiny instead of being tied to Microsoft's own failed efforts.
I had a lot of trouble installing VS2015 on one machine whereas it installed trouble free on another. They were very similar VMs so I don't know why one took several days of error messages and fighting to get it to install and the other went ahead seamlessly.

Not everyone can be a good amongst developers like yourself. Remind me what you've written again oh Exalted One.
I don't understand why Disney want this so badly. All their characters are trademarked so no one can use them even if their films enter the public domain.
Why do journalists need to say where a corporation is based? They could just say "the company" instead of the "Cupertino based company".

There is an obesity epidemic. Acting like it isn't just because BMI doesn't work for olympic powerlifters is the usual action of people in denial.
I have done this countless times on Windows and have never had a problem. Neither have any of the people who come to me for tech support. Why can't Apple users have the same?

How about letting users unplug removable media without having to eject it first like every other OS has had for about a decade.

That comes in a 16 GB / 1 TB version. It's very expensive though.

Neither I or my colleagues are in any way anti-social or socially awkward. Being a developer is a job the same as any other.
As everyone on here knows, there is no AGW, no pollution and every attempt to clean up the environment makes baby Jesus cry.

In what way are men immune to sexual harassment?

PHP lol that's a good one
