And you clearly never read my original post. It was in response to someone who claimed that article was "It's like 2.4, only with more options, and some funky X configuration interfaces."
My point was that the X config interface has nothing to do with the kernel, and they should not be confused. Half your post agrees with my point, indeed simply reiterates it, and the other half says that I dont know what I'm talking about. Do YOU know what YOU'RE talking about?
The kernel of the OS is not X. It is not a widget kit. It is not your web browser. It's analogous to command.com, or vmunix, or ntoskrnl.exe. Kernel improvements are completely and utterly separate from the tool which allows a user to select kernel options.
Firstly, s/summerize/summarize/, and secondly, the 'funky X configuration interfaces' you talk about are nothing more than GUI applications which have nothing to do with the kernel.
This recent trend in GUIfication of Linux is troubling, and your post illustrates exactly why. It's the same 'logic' that allowed MS to call Windows an 'Operating System' before it really was. It's the same logic that lusers use when they say that they 'can't get into the Microsoft' when they really mean there's an application problem.
Computers are NOT monolithic, they are NOT black boxes. They are boxes of legos, where you can build what you want, when you want it, and leave out the crap. You have control.
Unless you cede responsibility and control to someone else.
Why do you need software of any kind at your home-brew radio station? A simple hardware mixer, a microphone, and 2 cheap console CD players will suffice. Hell, you could even pre-record your shows to giant low-bitrate MP3s, and with a MP3-capable CD players, have a 4 hour show on 1 CD. I guess you could use a PC to store the audio... but why??
And of course, the Ambient folks would NEVER sell the huge pile of interesting demographic data that they're collecting by all these Orb users customizing their orbs.
Then create your own, you parasitic, socialist troll. You, and other web surfers like you, MADE FUCKING GOOGLE WHAT IT IS TODAY. It's The Hangman all over again.
The biggest problem is the Technolazy, people who have seen to much Star Trek, or who have been so brainwashed by the 'ctrl-alt-del' mentality, that they assume things are easy when they aren't. Driving a car, operating a VCR, or designing a website are all DIFFICULT tasks, which require attention to detail, and have strict guidelines to avoid failure.
None of this matters to the Technolazy, who stomp their feet when the "computer doesn't want to print" or when it goes "beep beep" and totally eats their very good paper. Technolazies also refuse to admit that paying for real hardware, quality software, and educated tech support is necessary - they all know someone who "kows computers". Resoning typically doesn't work, since "they heard" something from someone, and so therefore they know more than you about T1 lines, printer drivers, SCSI drives or database software.
This clearly reflects the increase in mean age in the US, for both the government and citizenry. As the average person's vision deteriorates (minus laser surger), on average, more people will need larger print.
"In this competition they will be allowing a community of experts in each OS to tweak their configurations to ensure maximum performance."
I can see it now, teams of KDE and GNOME developers going head to head to see who can come up with the best color scheme, antialiased fonts, and 'Are you sure you want to delete this?' dialog box. Followed by Round 2, where each group has to compile something built for the other camp's desktop, whoever can fight through the dependencies quicker wins!
Someone with so much time on their hands, and so much technical knowledge sounds like the perfect addition to the Bochs team. In other words, put your code where your mouth is, flamer.
Sorry, Schernau's Law tells us that your post has no value, that you probably use AOL, own an X-box, and are as bad as the trolls, since you used the word 'puter' in your post.
Please justify that the VGA DSub connector sucks. I have a 1600x1200x32bit display here via DSub, and it looks great - nice and bright, clear lines, good contrast, no weird artifacts. Don't be such a snob. I'm sure you're someone who can hear the difference between FLAC and WAV. PS. You post carries no extra weight if you 'sign' your name to it.
Linux has a coherent design philosophy, which you must understand before attempting to change it. One cannot randomly load modules built vs. different kernels, and you can't load proprietary modules w/o tainting the kernel, and it tells you as such. You sound like the type of complains about those RIAA "whiners" as you download gigs of MP3s.
The mode of submission of this article earns it a -1, Flamebait. Why can't we have real journalism?
Oh wait, you'd rather just whine from the sidelines! I see, well, enjoy Longhorn when it comes out!

More importantly, what happens on the 'other' holiday? Don't 'stiff' your geek on that day either! (pun intended)

The State gives the people's money away to YOU!
(Seriously, why not just take the cash and give it to the people who would have been employed there, and cut out the AMD middleman?)

The budget deficit and unemployment due to an unsustainable socialist economy find YOU!
it's not OSNews doing the 'reporting'.

Except that my comment has a +5, Interesting on it, while you merely have a +1, so I win.

we don't want to hear about your girlfriend's "box" troubles...

Lord Linus, save us from OSNews.

For 400 million USD, you better KNOW it will be perfect again before you run mkfs on it.
This is old news, is Slashdot just becoming a Yahoo!, MSN and C|Net aggregator? Where's the real "News for Nerds" ?

Damn, I was going to mod you up, but you're already +5, Funny
