You say there is a "juvenile fascination" with speed, but the same can be said about new (or not so new) technologies that introduce new features to applications, even if they don't add anything to the so-to-speak standard purpose of the application. It may end up as a "juvenile fascination" with novelty.

I do know people who had been successfully treated with homeopathy without knowing the intended effect. Specifically the subject stopped having uneasy sleep, which it had been having for a long time, just by taking a few drops of a bach flower remedy on a regular basis. The subject was a child, have never been told what was supposed to be cured and apparently there was no other reason for the end of the symptom.

I know homeopathy probably won't cure severe diseases, but it isn't as useless as people think. Seemingly there is no reason for it to work at all, yet there are people who get results by taking it.

Being skeptic will not achieve anything. If it seemingly works for some people we shouldn't say "it doesn't work" just because we believe it is not supposed to work. We should ask ourselves why it works. Discover why and in which circumstances it could work rather than just trying to disprove it.

I doubt even Jesus would do things the same way if he appeared again.

Religion is more than following what a book says. It involves beliefs. If you don't actually believe, following a set of rules doesn't make any difference. People might disagree with the standards of the religion they follow, at the point they may end up with a different set of beliefs. Religion is actually something very personal.

There are many different Christian churches with different sets of beliefs. This is no surprise. Even if someone doesn't try to adapt religion to their needs they might still disagree about some interpretation or even some ethical matter. Someone that lives in fear will fear life. Anger too, doesn't make a healthy mind. The kid might hold a grudge against his parents. It doesn't matter whether the kid will do something against them (and probably won't), but chances are the kid will not trust their parents either.

MMO users exploiting a perceived weakness in the game? Who saw that one coming?

I didn't bother, but when I think about it, it's no surprise.

This is the reason I abandon most MMORPG in less than a month. Most players just want to grind.
If you doesn't grind, you suck.
If you doesn't have the full shiny equip set, preferably +(Infinity+1), you suck.
If you doesn't have the right build, you suck for life.
When (and if) you stop sucking you probably already did everything interesting in the game, at the point it gets boring and you quit.

I have to admit I enjoyed many of them for some time, but sucking sucks and they demand more time than I have available.

Anyway, the majority of MMORPG players seek (or follow) the fastest way to getting the best character. So, most forms of content creation for MMORPG (by developers) involve something that resembles a fight against the users, in the sense they have to make sure players won't find a way to exploit the new content. If they allow player-created content which grants rewards similar to the standard gameplay, pplayers will, of course, exploit it. And get stronger. And get bored. And leave.

I will go back to my single player games. Feel free to add words like "some" and "almost" where you feel necessary.
