I'm going to swear in this post for the first time ever ( on slashdot). Activesync is the single most piece of twat shudderingly bellend dripping piece of cock cheese software ever devised to tax the minds of men. No excuses, wasted years of my life on various devices due to this and its arcane error messages.

  17. Reduce load on Growing Power Gap Could Force Smartphone Tradeoffs · · Score: 1

How about better control over power use. For how long does the WIFI need to be on, and also the Bluetooth. Rather than forcing people to turn on and off various radios (which is unrealistic) design software that can be a little bit more intuitive. I'm so shocked in this modern age how little software learns from how the operator uses the technology. If every day I turn on my phone at lunchtime to check my email, surely the system should be able to learn this (and other patterns) and pre-empt my needs saving power and the need to leave connected power drains. Also, in the end all we are doing is changing information and transmitting it. Of course to transmit requires energy, but information itself has no weight and requires zero energy. So 100% of energy used processing information is due to inefficiency (resistance, leakage) and could be eliminated. When I lived powered by photovoltaics for 10 years, the 1st thing I learnt was to buy extremely low power tech and restrict usage, rather than increase battery size.

I ran Windows ME for 5 years without ever re-installing and it was still going strong when I hopped to XP. I actually found the 20G hard drive with it on last year, popped it in a new AMD dual core system and it booted and ran !!! Admittedly I had always used utilities like CCleaner and defragged religiously but tbh I never had the dreaded ME problems. Vista however was overwritten with XP within 2 weeks. Loving W7 but i think the Beta was better than the RC for me.

Also if you want to sync EMAIL with a PDA/smartphone, it has to be outlook and activesync, "Missing sync" just doesn't cut the mustard. I too use ACAD. I thought about iphone/mac combo and XP in Bootcamp for ACAD but the iphone doesn't have a stylus and I need handwritten notes aka "phatnotes". So in the end I'm stuck with windows. Happy with Windows 7 however after the misery of Vista forcing me back to XP.
