This news - which is no doubt going to be suppressed to a massive extent by the oligarchy-controlled Big Media - is precisely what will help Donald Trump into office.

  4. The list of processors supported by Linux - meaning the Linux kernel - is huge. The CPU in my Samsung phone is an ARM, are the vast majority of phones. Samsung does not make the Linux kernel support for the various ARM architectures. It, like virtually every other company, purchases the components to build its devices on the market, devices which are generally supported independently by Linux.

Yes there are mobile manufacturers who do also make their own chips, which puts them in the category of a device manufacturer. Whether they happen to contribute code to Linux to support their devices or not is another issue.

Nothing you've said IMHO puts phone manufacturers in some special class different from computer manufacturers, except as outlined above. Whether the same company may or may not also create other hardware such as processing chips, which may or may not be used in their or other manufacturers' devices, is a totally separate issue.

  5. Phone manufacturers can create their own customized launcher and proprietary apps, but besides compiling a custom kernel what else do they do?

Is what they "build" that significant that there cannot be regular updates from Android? Is their any real justification for their extra control?

Why can't it be like the model for Linux distros: The distro creates its own packages and updates. A sysadmin at a company may create their own custom package repository specific to their hardware with for example packages for their custom kernels which override the distro's kernel packages. As long as the device is set on whatever release channel from the distro, then the only updates that come are the official ones for that particular release from the distro, which have already been thoroughly tested.

The way it is now and has been is crap. Phone manufacturers only want to sell device and comply with any security requirements (few if any) placed upon them to the minimal extent possible. The distro (Android) doesn't have the same responsibility as a full-fledged Linux distro in terms of providing and thoroughly testing releases on a regular schedule. And consumers lose out.

The Android paradigm, from a Linux viewpoint, was messed up to begin with and needs to change.

You can literally run your head under a shower or dunk it in a bath with modern cosmetics and come out with them looking exactly the same as before.

Its no surprise then that there is more innovation occurring with silicon-based cosmetic compounds. Makeup products are among the most heavily engineered products (according to Wikipedia, but I can't find the reference).

  7. Don’t buy phones that are locked to the carrier’s update schedule. Spend a little more and get something you can patch on your own terms.

Or only buy devices that have active development going on on xda-developers.com including multiple and frequently-updated ROMs, or are actively supported by one of the large alternative ROM creators such as Cyanogen, Resurrection, Pac, Slim, etc.

  9. Millions of people have been doxed on Are US Courts 'Going Dark'? (justsecurity.org) · · Score: 1

There are greasebag companies now which scour local court electronic documentation systems and publish all the records on their websites which are then indexed by major search engines. The upshot is that *anyone* who has had a case in court - even the most minor small claims court - has all their personal information published online and easily available via search engine, including their name, phone number, and address.

Initially I'm sure its obvious why courts have electronic documentation systems, but those records would only have been accessible by a person who was specifically trying to access them, and knew exactly what court system's records to look at. Now *all* those records from all systems are on Google. The privacy of millions of people who have used their local court system for any reason - even the most minor disputes - have not lost their privacy and essentially been doxed by these greasebag companies which are doing this and claiming its a crusade for transparency and freedom.

  10. I don't see where in the original story it mentions anything about a gun in the chicken wing case.

That is because it was intentionally left out. The point of the story was to manufacture outrage about the use of Stingrays in frivolous cases. If they mentioned the gun, then readers would realize the case wasn't so frivolous after all, and they might even stop reading before they got to the paid ads at the bottom of the page.

    Good point.

I also want to say that tracking a person's location via radio signal that they are emitting is to me at least a lot different that accessing someone's data. Its hard to classify this as an intrusion since basically the person's device is emitting a radio signal. But I guess the intrusive part is that its not just monitoring the signal, but that it has to actually spoof the tower and essentially trick all in-range devices in order to single out the desired one.

I don't know how bad this is though. I kind of assume if I'm using a device that emits radio signals that those signals can be witnessed by anyone with receiving equipment.

Except, look at reality. He has won by a landslide. He is winning in the Republican primaries by huge landslide margins whereas Hilary has only been winning marginally in Demo primaries.

There's a huge groundswell of support for Donald Trump. the "silent majority". Look at the enormous turnout at his rallies vs. the anemic turnout at Clintons.

Donald Trump is much closer in stance to Bernie Sanders - taking a stand against the oligarchy and in favor of the working class. He is not bought out like every other candidate (except Sanders).
I just think that there's too much brainwashing going on in what people believe is the "liberal" media. Over and over I see writers exhibiting some kind of sickness as they spew irrational hate against Donald Trump and make repeated false accusations against him.

But thankfully there are many more Americans who see through this sham and recognize Donald Trump is the best candidate in American politics in probably at least a century if not since its founding.

The *reality* of who the FBI actually are - the people in your community - who you don't know about - who work there - is that they are basically a secret mafia, usually very connected to your local law enforcement and oligarchy that runs your city - and they have super powers that you cannot even imagine to be able to raid and invade anyone's life at will. They are a separate class and truly a branch of the oligarchy, and in ways far more frightening than the mafia/thug class associated historically with other regimes because their powers and secrecy go way beyond - whereas with the former historical ones they tended to be more overtly violent thugs.

The very existence of FBI - and in fact also police in the United States - is a violation of the pact between people and government, and a clear sign that this is a de facto oligarchy, and that just because its an *oligarchy* and not some other type of fascist regime, is no less human-rights violating and dictatorial than any other.

That said, the conduct of the NSA and other federal agencies is totally reprehensible. From the viewpoint of basic human decency, if you happen to notice a problem with your neighbor - perhaps something unusual or wrong with their house or any of their possessions - it is universally understood that you should tell them about it.

The analogy with our federal government is that they are like the most shitty, disgusting neighbor who knows all these things are wrong with their neighbor's house and they are actually glad for it and refuse to tell the neighbor about it because they view those vulnerabilities as an advantage or asset to be potentially exploited. That is the EXACT OPPOSITE of how they should be acting and is more than justification for their complete and immediate disbandment and a major reform of our federal, state, and local governments from the ground up.

    Wake up people.

The level of delusion, apathy, and disregard one sees in Silicon Valley is truly appalling given the seriousness of our situation in America. Our elections are a complete joke. Our entire system is becoming more and more a farce based not on the basic concept of rule of law but rather groups of thugs - usually identified as liberal - who see their jobs as entailing the constant breaking and bending of rules for one selected class or another.
