Without DMCA and similar restrictive "YOU TAKE IT DOWN NOW OR WE SUE YOU!!" notices the grocerier would probably have. If I would get an email about using someones stuff I would had also just said "sorry, we'll take it down" instead of actually asking for permission seeing the general approach of companies.
Actually, its not about USA copyrights since the grocer is in Czech. Lots of americans seem to think their laws apply everywhere (not trying to be hostile, but they usually do). Now, I dont know about Czech laws, maybe they have a point in the copyright laws that would cover it.
Did you forget all the google chrome ads and promotion of it in youtube? And how they pay firefox and opera to include google as the default search engine. That counts as marketing aswell.
Haven't they updated it constantly tho? TF2 and L4D are the only games developers (valve) keep tweaking as much as blizzard tweaks world of warcraft. There has been many updates, new gamemode, and new campaigns for versus mode.
I'd say its really justified to make a sequal with l4d2 new content than push it freely for the existing users.
When has Valve said they will be adding content constantly? That is just an assumption. If you read http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/06/04/valve-on-l4d2-trust-us-a-little-bit/ aswell, you'll see that Valve is fairly aware that they're taking a new route. Read the rest of the article however, and you'll see they note they will keep supporting l4d1 with new stuff aswell.
So before the thing actually gets released in 6 months, stop making stupid assumptions. Its half an year still and l4d1 will probably see lots of updates before it, and even maybe after that.
Neither do they show anything here in Europe. Oh well, I would actually liked to pay for such service, as I'm already paying here for similar ones but which more like let you download.ts etc recorded from tv (just to note, legally). However I dont really want to wait to watch the shows I like, so I have to get them otherwise. I do like the easy of things however, and with gaming Steam has done great job. Same for spotify here in europe with music streaming (its actually better than you even have in usa). But I hope tv stations etc also see the opportunity with providing such service worldwide, because I would gladly pay for it.
Just to note, ATM running Windows XP doesn't mean its less secure and that it could be exploited. If you've used ATM's, theres no really way to just run your programs on it or exploit it somehow. But when criminals have access to the hardware physically, there is no difference if its windows, linux or whatever else OS. That is how its probably been working here aswell, they get some insiders to give them access or they social engineer their way in. You cant exploit windows bugs in them because you cant connect to them from the internet.
Like said, when people get good physical access to the hardware, game is usually lost, no matter what the OS is.
Yeah, Spotify indeed is a great service. That's all I've used for my music listening for over a half an year now. It has both free ad-supported and premium versions, and the free versions ad's arent distrubtive and dont come that often.
It also works so fast that it feels like listening music from your computer. Songs start playing right away when you click on them, so I havent noticed even slight buffering issues.
I'm actually siding with Last.FM here, just for the reason that TechCrunch deleted mine and many others comments if it was about *anything* against their view or if you defended last.fm. The most recent article about last.fm downtime was also hilarious try to make bad comments about them (and see the writers comments in that article:). Now, I do not know anything about which side is valid. But by far last.fm has answered questions and what they have been accused of, while TechCrunch keeps removing comments that dont side with them. For me that says something.
For most of the part it has worked great for me. Only problem I sometimes have is that when I try to connect to a server it sometimes says its already full. Other than that I have nothing to complain about. And I do know what I'm talking about, I play l4d maybe 10-15h a week. Not with clans, but just for the fun of it.
You sir, fail. Both L4D and TF2 were great games to begin with. There was no bugs or crashes like with other games. What even make them better is that Valve continued to improve the game and provide free updates and even free dlc with new campaigns in versus mode and totally new gameplay mode. What other companies do that?
I for myself are really looking forward to get Left4Dead 2. L4D was honestly my favorite game for last year, I cant even think about how many hours I spent on it, specially in versus mode. I mean, my last favorite games were civ2, settlers2 and megarage2 and simcity. Left4Dead bringed back the same fun in gameplay even now years after. Actually, now that I wrote about it I'll just feel like going to play it again. See you later.
That's the thing here. Its made for IT security persons, and they probably will enjoy the convenience and other features it delivers. As a webmaster I could probably code all the scripts and code I would need, but sometimes its just more convenient to buy them in one package and dedicate your time on the more important stuff. You get more done that way aswell.
That is really a long way from the traditional malware. Most of malware/adware makers are just trying to make money off from as many people as they can. They're not targeting hospitals or anyone specifically.
I agree, there are targeted attacks aswell. But once it gets targeted attacks, no normal firewall, linux or whatever are gonna save you. They're gonna find a way around, be that via exploits or actually sending people to have fake jobs at that hospital and finish that target -- which 99.9% malware isn't targeted to do.
Why would they? Everyone is gonna call emergency number, which is 911 in usa and 112 in nordic area. Other areas I dont know about, but they should know it really well.
Was going to write this to earlier post aswell, but what would be the point of ddossing a hospital? Old days of malware are gone where most of people just wanted to do bad things and gain fame. Most hackers now are now in it for the money. It would be stupid from them to ddos a hospital for the publicity it would get and the fact they cant get any income from it.

How is 'google' more serious word then? bing is really easy to remember actually.

Its been out for weeks. Go to your Tools tab in Steam.

subsystem posted this down in the comments, but everyone should read it. Guardian has actually done some fact checking with it unlike TechCrunch: http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/may/28/not-safe-for-work-last-fm
I agree with you here. I stopped following his worthless site because of this. Didn't have problems with it before, but oh well.
Its also funny he kept deleting every comment that he didnt agree with.
Just to note, his comments are with green background and by Michael Arrington (@arrington)
Here's some of them:
- Any idea who is hosting their servers ?
Michael Arrington: the RIAA?
Michael Arrington: Iâ(TM)ve found itâ(TM)s best to be careful when it comes to last.fm and the truthfulness of their public statements.
Michael Arrington: iâ(TM)m not even sure where central time is.
in reply James Wheare: Are you drunk Mike?
Michael Arrington: i have a special place in my heart for last.fm
Well, for me these comments sound really unprofessional.

Sir, the correct word is compressed. If it would be uncompressed, it would be that 8GB.
So? Its not like any games are released without bugs, and valve fixed that really quickly. Now try again.

yep, google does the same for their domains aswell, aswell as lots of other companies.
That's a good point and technically possible aswell. I wonder if anyone has suggested it to them tho, rather than just bitching about it on forums :)
