The most violent episodes in our history are contributed to religious cults focused on the afterlife...
While it may be true that if you were to take all the murders throughout history that are attributable to religion, they would be far greater than those attributable to "other".
However, most reasonable people would agree that within the last 150 years or so, murders attributable to those who would deny others their beliefs and enforce atheism as a mechanism to further their control over society, have shown themselves to be much more efficient and ruthless murderers than anyone in history.
t also takes away the power of people like the Vatican screwing over the poor
To be replaced by the likes of Al Gore, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, et. al. Who all ride around in their limos and private jets, living high on the hog while lecturing us about driving less in smaller cars and telling us we should be eating grass clippings instead of beef.
The difference? The religious authorities can't come after us with guns should we be inclined to tell them to fuck off.
If the problems with the shuttles were related to floor mats then perhaps NASA could help. Otherwise, it's just another set of computer scientists looking over a few million lines of code they didn't write, trying to find a defect that has supposedly manifest itself less than a few hundred times out of million of cars and probably billions of miles driven.
If we are talking a bunch of corrupt city officials stringing this project along so their buddies make a killing and then kickback some of the funds to the city official, that's one thing. They all should go to jail.
But if we are talking just incompetent city officials continuing to pay people way too much for way too long, then no, it's not unethical. Again, assuming that the consultants are not padding the numbers, stalling, etc.

...because none of us is as dumb as all of us.
How many former lobbyists have been exempted from the no lobbyist rule now?
About $75 Million ($450 Million per launch)
Not a slam against your country, which ever it is.
That was over a generation ago and very few, if any are left from those days. I don't subscribe to the idea of "sins of the fathers".
The slam was against the ideology that was the engine for these things.
This year's sore loser is next year's winner.
I guess after 8 years of being a sore loser yourself, you are entitle to strut around a bit.
Congratulations, your asshole is in office now. In 2012, my asshole will be there.
I am anti-asshole.
Unfortunately, this covers the majority of government officials throughout history.
"We socialists are doing quite well thank you"
In spite of the millions of dead or because of the millions of dead?
What's the matter? Did my comment hit a bit close to home?
I'm sure the millions of dead would agree with you.
Josef Mengele agrees with you.

Lacking belief in an afterlife makes this world far more precious; a thing that must be protected because there is, as yet, nowhere else for us to go.
Because all of the governments that had this as an official policy (Communism, Socialism, etc.) turned out to be oh, so just and quite the paradise.
Fortunately, your approval is not required.

Josef Mengele would concur.
I wonder what other hallucinogen cause everyone to have the same basic hallucination.
A House committee has found that excessive Federal spending is NOT the cause of the huge national debt.

If that's the case then I have at least $1.95 coming to me.
I don't know...is it?

Save the Planet...recycle comments.
True, but you can't blame them for catching it...unless they misrepresented things or otherwise acted unethically.
I'm saying NYC pretty much deserves what it gets.
Maybe, just maybe, Healthcare reform is something that needs to be implemented over the objections of a majority?
Classic case of "shut up, we know what's best for you."
Ha!...it's not stealing if they give it to you.
I wish I was getting $600K.
I don't care what the requirements are, a consultant working on a T&A system (Yeah baaaby!) is waay overpaid at $600k per year.
But, I guess more power to them. If they can convince some city idiot to pay them that much, good for them.
