Brent Jones, and affiliates filed for a patent today that deals with something we take for granted everyday when browsing the web.
Have you ever wondered how they got multiple domains running on a single IP webserver? Simple, ServerAlias. By adding aliases to the server it will recieve the domain request from the client, and direct you to that domain on the server.
By patenting this otherwise non-patented tool, Brent Jones and associates, if they so choose, could ask for royalty fees from millions of websites for using the ServerAlias function.
Royalties would be collected as per-use, meaning each time a website gets a hit, and is using the ServerAlias function, a royalty will be charged.
This patent applies to only Apache, because Microsoft already patented thier own version of ServerAlias into thier IIS 4 and 5.
Pretty good huh? =)
Heres another one.
This document hereby states that Brent Jones and associates legal upholding of the left wrist watch wearing technique.
Although done for hundreds of years, consumers wearing thier watch on thier left wrist will need to pay royalties to Brent Jones and Associates for un-consented usage of thier left wrist as a watch placement mechanism.
This patent covers the whole area of the wrist, wether the watch be facing down or up, and partial left arm area.
Hows that for a stupid patent!?

How about consumers turn this against Motorola?
Maybe its time for us to ask personal information of employees at these companies, how would they like to have thier information sold, analyzed, and then to be targeted for solicitation?
Im sure Motorola would find this to be a different story, and would say that dilvulging thier employee's personal information would be a constitutional infringement and would fight it all the way through, but they dont stop to think about how the consumers feel.
They think consumers are just a bunch of mindless animals that need to be organized and cataloged.
Maybe if they had a higher respect for the people that make those companies what they are, they would have a better reputation, not a reputation of law suit happy, information hungry monopolies.
I know that if I find out my personal information was sold without my permition, which probably has already happened, I would fight it up to the courts, and I think its time for consumers to demand their information be kept confidential.
This is getting real sad, from the CueCat propoganda that tracked your scanniong habbits and stored your name and address in an online database that was eventualy hacked, to Motorola demanding this personal information that will most probably be sold to 3rd parties for targeted solicitation. Im really sick of this.

How can AT&T expect to be payed for sales using thier internet service?
As the topic says, that would be like the phone company asking for a percentage of sales made using the phone, which is absolutely rediculous.
AT&T is just excersising its assfuck attitude to boss people around, thinking they run the financial wold and everyone owes them something, because as we all AT&T -is- in fact the ruler of the financial world ... just kidding!!
Quite frankly, im sick of these corporations trying to take everything, and controlling the whole market in a bullish fasion, and where is the FTC in this? Isnt the FTC's job to insure American's have a fair marketplace, the Microsoft cases helped a little, but only caused confusion instead of reform.
We need to see some steps forward to reduce monopolies, and to ensure customers rights.

Maybe providing the ISBN number of the CD jewel case?
Thats the only legal proof that even comes with a music CD after purchase, besides a reciept, which you cant transfer over the internet.
The more I think about it, the ISBN number would probably be a very attractive way of providing prrof of ownership, not very secure though, as anyone can copy thier ISBN number and give it to a friend.
Maybe as you use the BeamIt software for my.mp3.com itll be able to read the watermark on the CD proving that its an authentic CD, as well as providing the ISBN number.

Yes, finaly, the political system is getting caught up to the rest of the world.
Record companies have no right to tell thier customers how and when/why/where to use the music they purchased.
Once anything I paid for enters my house, its MINE
Just like the electricity I pay for, PGE doesnt say "your a mad scientist, dont use our electricity to make evil experiments", they just charge me more =)
If this bill passes it will be one step forward to getting the rest of the political system caught up int he digital world.
Next step, get the patenting office caught up as well and ban patents of frivelous things such as One Clock Shopping and shit like that.
Only one question, are there any websites set up that have forms, and send the form out to the state represetitive of our choosing? If not, who wants to help me set one up?
If you want to help me set up a form for theis MP3 Bill thatll have a premade, or variable form field that lets you choose what state your in, then send your plea to your corrosponding state representetive, mail me, brentj@servuhome.net

Just like all new technologies, electric vehicles go through their stage as being the new kid on the block and never get adopted as fast as they could just because of thier pricetag and peoples unwillingness to try new things. Also, at this point there just isnt a big infrastucture out to recharge electric vehicles, just like gas stations are placed every 30 miles on a lonely highway, recharging stations also need to be placed too. This is just like ADSL, its a great technology, but still isnt widely available because the word needs to get out, the prices need to come down, and the infrastructure just isnt in place yet. Ive thought about this for a couple years also. I mean, with the current crop of video cards, like the Geforce, they already offload a lot of work from the CPU with HW T&L, so why not offload even more from the CPU by having an actualt bus type dedicated to adding riser cards that can hold more CPU's without having to buy a dual, or quad motherboard? They already designed a special video card bus, AGP, so why not make a special.. CPU Addon bus? Say, a 100, or 133 mhz bus, that runs in paralell with the current cpu for example, and have a special riser port when you can plug in a card that can hold 2 or 4 more CPU's that could work in tandem. Back on topic, using a video card, or network card, or even a sound card (yes, sound blaster live cards actualy have a very fast chip) and rewrite thier codes to perform other tasks. Hell, im surprised someone hasnt done this already!
