When Papa John bitched and moaned about Obamacare it was revealed the extra cost per pizza was 11 cents. The minimum wage in Denmark is $20/hour + a ton of government-mandated perks, yet their Big Macs only cost about 25 cents more than ours.
So this whole "if we force employers to pay their workers $15/hr it will drive up the cost of their products" simply doesn't hold water. And on the flip side, you're giving people more money to spend, meaning more products they're going to buy, so you'll likely to sell MORE of your products, not less.
If you business model requires that you pay slave wages to your employees you need a new business model.
I also love when they say "Americans don't want to do this work", because they always leave off the "for the slave wages I'm willing to pay them".
And as we've seen over and over and over again, increasing the salary you pay to your workers has a negligible effect on the price of your goods that consumers pay.

It was absolutely shitty work, but it paid more than McDonalds, which was also shitty work and at least I got to be outside. But to do that as an adult for minimum wage? Oh fuck no. You'd have to pay me upwards of $25 an hour + full health benefits + overtime + minimum 2 weeks vacation to do that kind of shit work. Offer a package like that and see how many American come running for that job they supposedly don't want to do.

The deadlock we've been seeing for the past few years has come from the Republicans ruling the House of Representatives and refusing to pass any Democrat-proposed bill coming from the Senate, even tho the Democrats ruled there, and vice-versa.
Now that both sides are Republican I don't expect anything to change really. Since they are comprised of at least 4 warring factions amongst themselves (the tea party, moderates, extreme right wing faux-christians, and libertarians) it's highly unlikely both sides of Congress will ever agree on anything, and even if they do Obama has the power of veto to block any legislation that might successfully come out of Congress. Yes, Congress can override a veto with a 2/3rd majority vote, but that's extremely unlikely to ever happen. So essentially we will have another 2 years where absolutely nothing gets done.
Well there are other things that are important as well as the story -- the acting, casting, staying faithful to the canon -- all things that Continues fails. Vic does a horrible Shatner impersonation and both he and Haberkorn sound like they're on helium. Not to mention Vic being about 15 years too old to be playing TOS Kirk. And instead of using the Kirk, Spock, McCoy dynamic that dominated TOS and made it special they have chosen to push McCoy into the wings and introduce the canon-breaking character of Dr. McKennah, who just happens to be played by Vic's Barbie-doll girlfriend.
For a project that continually pounds its chest proclaiming they are the most faithful and accurate TOS production they've made a whole lot of poor choices that belies their highly-inaccurate claim.
You want the real continuation of the 5 year voyage? Go with the guys that have been making episodes for over 10 years.

Well that would be one additional source of revenue that wouldn't require increasing gas prices for everyone -- start putting tolls on your highways, bridges, and tunnels. The money raised would then go directly into a fund to maintain them.
Many states have an EZ-Pass or similar system. I should think it would be quite easy to charge variable rates depending upon the time of day via these systems. It would also be another big incentive to get people using them.
Take some tinfoil, form a large hat, a medium hat, and small hat. Put the large one on your head, the medium one on your laptop, and the small one on your phone. After that, you should be just fine.
Find another way of funding the HTF that doesn't rely upon bleeding more gas money from people.
People drive less and buy more fuel efficient vehicles because the price of gas is so fucking high. Lower the price and people will drive more because the amount they spend on gas every month won't be the same as their rent.
Basic Economics 101. Not surprising it goes right over their heads.
