    Your thinking of the book value of the stock. Book value has nothing to do with what the stock sells for on the market. The value the stock sells for on the market is a reflection of peoples' perception of its strength/weakness.

    ...it's very difficult to defend a libel case in the UK. Here in the US, the plaintiff has to prove that the comments made were defamatory. In the UK, the defendant has the responsibility of proving that the comments made were true.

    The UK just finished a libel case a couple of days ago where a Holocost denier who has banned from Germany and France sued an American author and her British publisher for calling him a Holocost denier and Nazi sympathizer, he lost.

    Despite years of trying to recondition myself, I still can't get out of the habits of procedural oriented models.

    Should PatRobertson and BillGates be subclasses or instances of class Antichrist? Would the WorkFor(Antichrist*) method cover all forms of servitude or would I need a separate one for such things as boot polishing and toilet scrubing?

    It's news because of WHO M$ hired has a consultant. As a generality, people who are not of the Christian Coalition ilk think Ralph Reed as a radical. As the voice for the CC, he has built a certain reputation that does not make him the best of choices for winning nationwide approval.

    lightyears per fortnight works, you just wouldn't be able to travel it without turning into energy, according to Einstein's theories of relativity.

    1 lightyear=5.88 trillion miles
    speed of light=700 million mph
    1 fortnight=14 days (336 hours)

    If you travel 1 lightyear in a fortnight, you will travel 5.88 trillion/336 = 17.5 billion mph: 25 times the speed of light.

    You may "own" your house, but you cannot do "anything" you please while on your land, inside your house. You cannot create certain things (drugs, explosives) inside your own house, on your own land, even if the things that you create are to never be taken off of your property. You may find that property taken from you if you make these types of things.

    You can't even make modifications to your own domicile without permission.

    Both IE and Netscape (4.x anyway) can "transmit" information about your system to requesting sites. They can also give personal infromation you provide under the respective user information screens.

    Is there a free ISP that has usenet access? I have Netzero, but it doesn't have usenet and I thus still use BYOA for AOL so I can get newsgroups.

    I am also unable to setup the email with netzero.

    It is highly reasonable to say that the median score of the tested people is not average by range of the test (unless the test recalculates it's average score dynamically)

    If I remember correctly, IQ is based on an average. Your IQ is based on what the average person in your age category scored.

    I forget if the quotient itself is scaled, but i think it is on a sliding scale, thus making 100 always average.

    Of course, from what I read in last week's Newsweek, it was more of an M$ pep rally than an unveiling. Butterflies spelling out the letter "X" on a projector screen and people cheering over mundane and unimpressive PR crap.

    You're exactly right, this is just a Windows box that's shaped different. This thing is due out for Christmas 2001, at which time it will be an extremely low-end machine.

    People who just happen to be watching and don't know about it in advance won't even know whaht's going on. At 15fps and 12 seconds long, without slowing the thing down all you'll see is some flickering.

    Yes, it's possible that some robotic intelligence could surpass humans and we could become extinct, but isn't that what evolution is all about?

    When I was first getting interested in computers and programming, I read a book called "The Complete Book of Computer Secrets", or some nonesense like that. This book was written in the eighties and it was refering to singles clubs that used these devices; the goal being to eliminate the need for small talk, I guess.

    Outcast is a great game, it has excellent graphics, a superb AI, a perfect balance between puzzles and combat. Also, the puzzles and combat a re challenging but don't leave you feeling incompetent.

    The slow-downs were a pain but they didn't last too long.

    BTW: do you know how to get past Gorgor? I read that you need to grab the hunter's gun but I'm always eaten before I can grab it.
