The funny thing is that RebelTycoon is getting so much grief for missing the reference in the first two paragraphs. From all the discussion so far, no one else seems to have read beyond the first two paragraphs.
Dr LHA says, "Obvious to those of us who play GTA3 regularly but still manage to overcome the urge to plough over pedestrains on the way to work in the morning, but good to see someone high up showing some sense."
Let me see if I've got this straight.
It is suggested that video games cause some people to behave violently. Yet Dr LHA play video games and does not behave violently. Thus the suggestion is proven false - QED.
And just how is Marty Beckerman's taunting a cheerleader different from the "cool kids" taunting "geeks" as was roundly condemned in the Hell Mouth articles? He sounds like a complete jerk to me.
Right you are, Captain. Have you noticed how many ask slashdot's there are lately? And, as you imply, most of them could be answered with a quick Google search. My theory is that these ask slashdot's are less work for Taco and his gang. See, with a regular story submission, they have to follow the link and make sure it's not a goatse. With the ask slashdot, they just have to post the stupid question.
On another subject, why does everything everybody says have to include a reference to Sept 11? This one is particularly annoying, CustomDesigned. After all, even on slashdot, many of us think the deaths of over three thousand people are more important than your loss of a few spreadsheets.
Get a sense of proportion. There's a war on terrorism going on.
I agree. There would be far less crime if the Army could quarter troops in our houses.
This is not exactly a new idea. There have been kitchen computers before, but they didn't really catch on. Look here
Sorry, mayby you'd rather just have a klenex.
Calm down and take an aspirin.
Ah, you young whipper snappers. I used to scratch my programs in the dirt and then punch them into cards with a sharp rock.
Ha ha. Acutally it's been my experience that only ex-marines are quicker than lawyers to identify themselves.

"You get what you pay for."
I've heard that all my life, but my experience has been that "what you pay for" is an upper limit on "what you get". But then I started using Linux.
Actually, I've been in IT since it was called DP, and I've never seen any relationship between ability and salary.
Ah, I see. Now you've proven your point. Moron.

It's the Devil's DP Dictionary by Stan Kelley-Bbootle. Amazon says it's out of print.
"I am sorry, but I must respecfully disagree. I am not a "Microsoft hater" - I have been using their products for 18 years..."
And if *that* doesn't make you a Microsoft hater...
"I mean, slashdot dosn't need to make itself look completly stupid"
Too late.
...to ask that question. This is slashdot - not a technical forum. You are not likely to run into any technical people here.
