My fucking god, "whore yourself out to spam havens to give someone else free shit that YOU should be getting because YOU'RE the one who exposed YOUR private info to some asshole slimeball spammer" bullshit for iPod nanos?
TWO FUCKING DAYS. Don't you jerks ever give it a fucking rest!?
I shouldn't have removed my rant against such shit so soon. I thought that craze was over. Apparently not.
I'd appreciate if you wouldn't make baseless assumptions about what people do or don't know. Given that you seem intent on casting me as a clueless uninformed person, which I am not, I think there's no point in continuing this discussion.

Where did I say I read just the mainstream press? No, I know they're doing work. I know where to look to see what's going on. I stand by what I said when I say I'm surprised at the current situation. But of course this is Slashdot, where everyone is stupid (or worse) if they don't say exactly what you expect, right?
Sometimes you have to take a little risk and the guy who is up there flying probably has a better idea of his chances than some arbitrary rule list. Not going by intuitions when people with intuitions tried to air their feelings is what led to two disasters in the first place.
So yes, it IS great the Scaled Composites accomplished their goal. "By the seat of their pants", maybe, but they went with their intuition... and succeeded.

I'm a lifelong space buff and even I am starting to think it's time to trash the current system and go with SafeSimpleSoon.com's proposals.
Waiting from September til March to fix a problem is fine, but when you've barely done any work so far on fixing the problem (that I'm aware; I haven't seen any test summaries beyond "we got a few tanks to work on now" hit the specialized news sources), suddenly admitting that you never even really thought March was achievable -- if you haven't done any testing yet and you're already saying a 6+ month delay is going to happen), you're clueless.
I used to say that the time wasn't up for the Shuttle yet. Now given this latest example of incompetence, it's time to move on.
Either that or take a hint from id Software, and just say "When it's done". No false promises. No bullshit.
I know about ColorWare... but it'd be nice to have Apple do it. Since they sell black/red iPods (which cost more, which is ridiculous -- is it really that much more expensive to use different colored plastic, and engrave them, when they're frequently offering free engraving!?) they can certainly branch out for other "special" versions.
It's not just kids that like that series. There's lots of adult fans (I'm one of them, and there's people twice my age -- I'm 30) with the money to buy that iPod.
I would consider it if it were a different color other than the same old boring white. Say, pick a house and have the iPod be the colors of that house. I'd go for a deep blue iPod with a silver (not grey) click wheel. Deep green/silver, maroon/golden yellow (with black markings), and black/yellow click-wheel... why are we still stuck with nothing but white with grey or black with red?
I have no sympathy for some government script kiddie -- c'mon, that's what they are if they do actually do nothing but use automated tools (which I doubt) fishing through my data. If you want to know what I have on my computer, ASK ME ABOUT IT.
Heck, this article reminded me to go download Deer Park. I'd meant to do it yesterday and forgotten.
Last time we got a machine in at work, it had no PS/2 port. We had a bunch of PS/2 mice with no way to plug them in!
So yes, it's quite true that new systems usually/often don't have PS/2 ports anymore. Keyboard, yes... but mice are going USB for very good reason these days. No need to worry about what platform you're using. Just plug it in.
So no, you often can't just rip out that port and expect to have a mouse or trackball.
I just got back from having it done, and the only ones that twinged a bit were the ones that had scars forming around them. The cut wasn't quite sealed up enough so now I have butterfly strip like things on the cut for another 4-6 days but I can peel those off later. And if, even if after that it's not quite there, Walgreens has butterfly bandages.
Fewer than six. And it did that to me too. My usual name is five letters, and it wouldn't let me register it. So I had to use my AIM nick instead, and I don't really like my AIM nick.
I have long hair myself and I constantly shed, but I refuse to cut it as it took a long time to grow it out.
The last time I bought a case, I bought one with a window in it so that if the fans ever stopped or anything got sucked in and jammed them, it's immediately visible. I've already once found the CPU fan not working just by looking (loose connector, I think it was).
Uhoh, I hope it's not so bad (they aren't deep stitches, as far as I can tell). It's a cut in the side of my wrist, lengthwise on one side, sort of hard to describe...
I have to go to work afterward.:( Well, I'll bring painkillers and call someone to pick me up if it's too bad.
owwwwww. I got stitches a week ago for the first time ever and I hated the Novocaine shots, too. But I didn't get anything like that. Just surface shots, which stung. The stitching was totally painless.
What's it like to have them removed? The one person I've asked who knows says "it tickles". Does it?
Ouch. I and the nine stitches in my hand (thanks to a broken window) sympathize. I get them taken out tomorrow morning. I hope it healed up well. I'm told I was really lucky I didn't cut any tendons.
It'd be nice if dd had a progress bar. I had to dd my old tivo hard drive A to a fresh blank disk last night because the damned thing kept rebooting itself randomly, which usually means bad drive. I had to let it sit all night because it took far longer than one would expect, and it also never threw up any kind of indication of how far the copy had progressed or how much time remained in the copy.
At least the procedure to expand the usable space over all of the drive instead of just that which contained the old, smaller, drive's data only took a few seconds. (If you don't do this it never realizes that it has more available disk space than it did before).
At least I got everything copied successfully. I was actually somewhat surprised when the thing booted up properly on the first attempt. I'd half expected to have screwed something up.
I'll answer that as soon as I figure out how to make this moonbeam hand-holdable. Maybe if I funnel it with some mirrors into this aerogel ...

It's fascist to point out where the government has fucked up when it was supposed to be out there helping? In that case ...
Sieg heil!
Yes, and intuition said "hey, we know we've got problems, don't do this" and they launched anyway.

And chances are they'll shoot you anyway, so I don't see an incentive to be honest with someone who isn't being honest to me.
Rip off my finger and I press charges against you for assault and worse.
If anyone asks for your PIN, you can always give them a fake one, and they know this.

Uh yeah. So you're going to epoxy your mouse port? Have fun drawing in CAD apps with no mouse. Brilliant!
Could swear it is.

Vanagons (Transporters) are loads of fun. Did he try drifting it?
There were no man pages on the boot CD image I used (see TiVo Upgrade Kits from the TiVo Upgrade Leader | LBA48 Support if you want to have a look at it), but that's useful to know. Thanks!
