Yes, I was referring about the presidential election. Sorry if it wasn't clear. Thanks for the explanation, but the USA electoral system is too complicated for me. >_ Where I live now you just vote for parties. Always. There are no primaries, no caucus. I'm not saying it's a better system. Also: Inb4 America Vs Europe or some similar sh_tstorm.
I'm with Gramps. I think the claims that Iron is a scam are grossly exaggerated. I'll make a list, not because a list of points means that I'm right, but because I find it easier to explain my thoughts this way. Please bear with me, or not, as you prefer.
Iron's home page is full of intrusive ads - Nothing that adblock or similar can't fix. You can also get Iron from other reliable sources. No one forces you to go to their website. It's annoying, sure, but no reason to claim "scam".
They change the branding "Chrome" to "Iron" - Duh! Seriously duh! And Firefox's mods change the branding from "Firefox" to [Random Element] + [Random Animal]. We see that Google is very annoyed with the Iron folks and are suing the crap out of them for such a vile felony. The FSF and EFF are also pressing charges.
They make changes to the comments in the code - Yeah, such cheats. Hang them! Specially since so many users care to check the code.
They remove Chrome's most questionable functionality - That's the whole point of Iron's existence.
They remove some of Chrome's innocuous functionality - Another capital crime. Questionable decision perhaps, but most people won't notice / won't be aversely affected. I can't remember now if they explicitly stated they'd get rid of it.
They add some search engines by default - Last time I checked, they added Google.de plus some other engines. Such an act of treason, since it's so difficult to add engines or set whatever one you want as default in Iron.
To add insult to injury, they have grammar mistakes and typos in the English version of their page. This is intolerable in the age of automatic spelling correctors.
They are German! And therefore, inherently evil or prone to evil deeds.
Also, SRWare makes Iron as a side project. They may get some money for beer from Iron, but they earn their beans with different projects.
If these are all the complains against Iron, I think there's no case here or it's extremely weak.
In any event, people can always use Chromium, ChromePlus or whatever other Chrome mod that comes up, or try Midori or plain WebKit.
tl;dr: The claims of Iron bein a scam are moot. Sorry for the text wall.
Most of the World's democracies work with proportional representation, AFAIK. The American system of giving all the representatives of one state to the most voted party (national election) always looked odd to me. If I understand it correctly, a party getting 30% of the votes gets all the representatives if the other (hypothetical) parties get 29%, 29% and 12%. Doesn't seem fair.
I'm pretty sure someone will come up with a hack, an about:config or an extension that will enable the menu bar.
BTW, I'm using Firefox 3.6 with no title bar, no menu bar and 'smart' status bar. Feels Chromey, man.
I lived in Canada. I had an internet connection with Cogeco, cable, 11 MBits, capped more or less reasonably. Moved to another house, ADSL 5 Mbits with Sympatico (I think), also capped reasonably.
Moved to Spain. Have a 1 Mbit ADSL (countryside, far from nodes), no caps. AFAIK, higher speed connections do not have caps. Mobile Internet has caps, but I think they are getting better each year. Perhaps they'll even implement a mobile internet flat rate.
I think it was widely known that Falcon 9 is cheaper than NASA's designs, specially Ares. The engines are much cheaper, for starters. Perhaps it was just known. Not widely.
There was another story about TACO after mine. Don't remember if it was before yours.
I don't care much. Slashdot works this way. I accept it. I can live with it.
I think they should use hiragana/katakana with spaces. That's what most of the languages do, don't they? And for good reason.
"text would have to occupy twice the physical space it did now" The problem being...? I've heard this complain before and I don't understand it. Of course the text will be longer, but what's the problem? Lack of paper? Lack of computer power/storage? Do you prefer less space + ludicrous difficulty or more space + much less difficulty?
Protip: In Japan, the immense majority of shop signs use hiragana/katakana profusely even when they could use kanji. It's not rare to see signs with all hiragana/katakana except for the most common kanji, and some with no kanji at all.
Kanji/hanzi are insanely difficult. Compare: 2136 official kanji Vs ~50 kana syllables.
The Koreans and the Vietnamese got rid of them without the world ending. The Chinese and the Japanese can get rid of them too.
See:

IMHO, Japanese without kanji is much, much easier. Or, in other words: kanji is the most difficult part of Japanese. The different levels/registries of the language may pose a challenge too, but kanji is the big wall of Japanese (and Chinese). Get rid of kanji, difficulties significantly diminish.
+1
Also, Chinese characters and culture are to South-East Asia similar to what Latin alphabet and culture was for Europe. Chinese characters were widely adopted by neighboring cultures: Japan, Korea, Vietnam... Vietnamese got rid of Chinese characters thanks to a missioner who adapted Latin alphabet for Vietnamese language. Koreans also have their own alphabet, hangul, although they still use some Chinese characters. Then we have Japan, who also developed easier-than-kanji scripts --hiragana and katakana-- but who also conserved the kanji in a very complicated way, mixing different meanings, readings.
There were some initiatives in Japan to completely replace kanji-hiragana-katakana with latin alphabet. From what I read, this is completely feasible, but history conspired against this movements. Ultimately, it was the American overlords during the occupation the ones who decided it was better to preserve the kanji, since removing them would be a great shock to the defeated Japanese, whose god-like emperor had to admit defeat.
I think the Japanese could opt for a middle ground and write in hiragana only, katakana only or both, but get rid of the kanji. This way they'll be using a script developed in Japan, keeping the coolness, exotic, national factor while at the same time having a much easier script than kanji.
There are some Japanese web sites of organizations who vouch for the use of Latin alphabet only: http://www.oomoto.or.jp/Romazi/index.htmlhttp://www.age.ne.jp/x/nrs/
I think pedos could use lolicon manga and similar fictional representations of CP to satisfy their urges. This way they could enjoy CP that was made without actually hurting children in any way*. Perhaps then, actual CP and child abuse would lower dramatically.
Furthermore, this new EU measure has lots of misuse potential. One of the main misuses could come from the MAFIAA. In fact, they recently expressed that they love the CP witch hunt because it helps them with their own inquisitorial goals. First CP, then file-sharers.
* Unless in some countries, where fictitious, drawn children must be protected too, and they have far more rights than a libel defendant.
Not that I like lolicon manga but:
What does the US do about violence in Hollywood movies and TV? It seems that the US consider violence a part of American culture.

Firefox 4 is shedding the menu bar. Don't remember if they offer it as an option, though.
Try Chromium or ChromePlus.
lrn2OutOfProcessPlugins (Firefox 3.6.4 and up)

XD It's a fork, yes. But it's also bloatware.
This story is a dupe of: http://slashdot.org/firehose.pl?op=view&id=13491118 I know it. I submitted it.

Does AmigaOS have a big base of hackers actively writing viruses, worms and various malware exploits for it? No? Then, it's obsolete.

Tell them Firefox can do magic :)
Firefox + IE Tab Plus?
True. Furthermore, if you take China out of the equation, IE6 market share is seriously diminished.
Not that I like lolicon manga but: What does the US do about violence in Hollywood movies and TV? It seems that the US consider violence a part of American culture.
for Pedobear.
the big question is: Can it run Linux?
It is and it is not, until you look at it.
