This depends on how much you drive them. If you walk or use mass transit almost all the time and only need a car once in a while the robocar will be cheaper very shortly after they become available.
Congress should make a decision about which laws should apply: I think probably some laws about employees and some laws about independent contractors should apply.
No, for the United States the primary remedy should be reducing its share of the world's CO2 production from the current 20% to its share of the world's population (about 5%).
Has everyone forgotten the previous Slashdot story: derekmead writes "Data from the enormous Green Bank Telescope at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory has been used to test some of Einstein's theories, discover new molecules in space, and find evidence of the building blocks of life and of the origins of galaxies. With 6,600 hours of observation time a year, the GBT produces massive amounts of data on the makeup of space, and any researchers with reason to use the data are welcome to do so. The eleven-year-old GBT stands as one of the crowning achievements of American big science. But with the National Science Foundation strapped for cash like most other science-minded government agencies, the NRAO's funding is threatened. In August of this year, the Astronomy Portfolio Review, a committee appointed by the NSF, recommended that the GBT be defunded over the next five years. Researchers, along with locals and West Virginia congressmen, are fighting the decision, which puts the nearly $100 million telescope at risk. Unless they succeed, America's giant dish will go silent."
I think you need to look at the energy consumption of some of these older machines. If you seldom turn a computer off these older machines consume a substantial amount of electricity in a year. Thus on a cost basis they can end up more expensive.

It' can happen on filesharing sites that advertisers have malware on their ads/sites--the firesharing site's administrators should check, but sometimes aren't very conscientious about it.
First get her a computer with the same Operating System as she already has. The older generation doesn't like change for the sake of change--they only want change when it offers significant improvements.
Second she will want a full size keyboard and a decent sized screen. As you get older your fingers are less nimble and your eyesight gets worse.
So I am thinking something like a 15"-17", used business class laptop from eBay (a few years old).
Right now a cashier takes his/her cash box to accounting which verifies the amount of money in the cash box is identical to the cash register tape. This will mess this up (although the newer machines with programming may be able to be re-programmed to calculate this correctly--anyone know?)
First I don't understand why you went to the office. You simply telecommute from home. In fact it's an exceeding rare event for any knowledge worker to go to the office; the few people going to work are the ones involved with physical objects.
Likewise I don't understand why you would go to a restaurant and this robot server. You have your own local meal preparation unit in your house (and there is one in the office for the few times someone shows up there). People only go to restaurants where they are served by real people as a special event. It's a nostalgia type thing.
But the event you remember the most of this day was getting a birthday card from your great grand-mother. You haven't handled physical paper in months--but she is very old-fashioned and sends you this card.
I am seeing a huge number of Youtube results at the beginning of responses when I have not made any search entry for video. I find it very doubtful these would show up if were a competing video service.
They are not closing down eBay Motors; they are closing down an app for eBay Motors.

"Dropped Out" implies it was the decision of the researchers to quit.
Instead it was the decision of the NIH to quit funding them.
There are various proposals around to eliminate cash. Eliminating cash would eliminate lots of crime, but would also have other problems.
What does the Self Driving Car do if there is a young child or dog playing along the edge of the road?
Is this what you would do?

Anyone know what the current status is concerning this permanent planned shutdown?
So what do the employees do with their cell phones--which mostly include cameras now?

How long before it shows up in major distributions such as Linux Mint?
Didn't Altavista develop a major problem with spam? You search for almost anything and porn sites were among the top items returned?
It seems that was a major reason which I switched to Google--which was in Beta at the time--and still in Beta several years later.
Any Downsides to Upgrading?
For example are lots of extensions not working with the upgrade?

Actually there could be a large market from people who recognize faces as familiar--but can't remember the name and other associated information.
18" desktop screens are something from a decade or so ago--why go back?

"which patterns would be most interesting or arresting"
Huh? Obviously the natural use of this is for advertising--and the advertising agencies know how to make interesting or arresting ads.
I can't believe the comments here.

Alternative question: what stands in the way of a solar-powered dirigible? (we'll use helium instead of hydrogen like the Hindenburg did)
Could someone post an English translation of what the scientists actually said?
