Yeah - here in Canada Harry Potter was imported as "the Philosopher's Stone" - we don't like movie companies insulting our intelligence.

  2. Re:'Anime' Is The Emperor's New Clothes Of The... on Cowboy Bebop Movie comes to the States · · Score: 3, Informative

Watch cowboy bebop. Its not a high-culture trendy thing, or a deep meaninful thing, or a bizarre schoolgirls in panties thing.

Its just a fucking good show. Its fun, action-packed, funny, stylish, and entertaining. This headline could be easily "Nifty-sci-fi movie coming".

Yes, many anime fans are obsessed wierdos who think that Nurse Angel is high culture. Before it was imported, I know many guys who watched Cart Captor Sakura on much-coveted import tapes.

Those people suck. There is a lot of good anime. THere are a lot of people who will watch anything, as long as it is anime. Don't listen to them - listen to normal, reputable folks (like Taco) on their opinion.

    And see Bebop. 'tis good.

BTW, anybody else thinking they should've left the title? Bebop was meant to be aimed at Americans. The massive amount of American music references reflected that. I mean, referring to one of Billy Joel's classics would've been a fine thing for american audiences, but they had to call it "The Movie"?

The WTC was the symbol and center of globalized business that is more of the US controlling the rest of the world (everybody works for US companies that treat them like shit, who are they going to hate? US capitalism).

  5. Re:One of the best ways to make money... on Antibiotic Resistant Staph Antibiotic Discovered · · Score: 4, Insightful

Oddly enough, I think the big problem here is not the drug company, it's the doctors. Antibiotic resistance is their fault. Go to any small-town non-prestegious hospital and you'll see doctors prescribing multiple high-power antibiotics for non-critical applications. These anti-biotics are powerful _because_ they are rare - by overusing them rather then getting the last use out of the simpler antibiotics, they doom the world to diseases resistant to even the strongest antibiotics.

Larger, more prestigious hospitals have to keep in much closer touch with research (often being research-oriented themselves) and tend to be more aware of the problems of antibiotic abuse.

Complex, rare antibiotics like this should not be needed - at least not yet.

Yes, its a fad, but there are still some more movies to come of it.

All ILOVEYOU even did was delete some jpgs and mp3s. You know what? I let my girlfriend drag me to Chicago, and I dragged her to TTT. Its really hard for me to say this, but Chicago was better. By a long shot. Its not a cheezy, sappy love story like Moulin Rouge, or some melodrama like Evita - its hilarious, dirty, and fun. The cast is awesome in it - I want Queen Latifah's musical number on video. That being said, Greek Wedding should be on the block for Best Picture as well. Meanwhile, TTT took most of the good character development and plot out of the novels and replaced it with a big battle. And besides - I'm just mad because they made Gimli into comic relief and put Elves at the battle of Helms Deep. Fellowship was better.

But we all know the Pianist will win, because of the automagic WW2 tragedy win: any film that is about WW2/holocaust and tragic will win oscars.

I think Gangs of New York is only there because mainstream films are starting to feel left out. Which is not because people don't want mainstream films to win oscars - its because they suck.

It is not his job to believe them. The moment the possibility of doing real damage to a person appears, so do responsibility. If belief was the issue, madmen would make the best reporters - they'd allways have an off-the-wall story (my neighbor is Hussein's estranged son) that would be true - from there perspective.
