  1. EU a nation? on India To Launch Its First GSLV Satellite · · Score: 1

Yepee! Thanks for uniting us! We were already waiting for that! Yepee!

  2. Yeah. This is quiet old news... on The Creation of "Fan" Sites · · Score: 1

I mean it has happened before and it will happen again. And I'm sure this practise is not unheard of outside film making. I mean I think a lot of fan sites for games are sponsered by game companies.

  3. Hyped to death on Black & White Goes Gold · · Score: 1

I really am surprised that this sort of hype gets to the wise and all knowing slashdot people! Come on Moleux (sorry wrong spelling I bet) is a geinus hyper. I mean I was looking forward to Dungeon Keeper when it was coming. Alsorts of neat ideas and the game was just another C&C clone. Someone in a rather trustworthy paper said that B&W might be good, but don't expect too much.

  4. The concept of art on Where Is The Line Between Programmer And Artist? · · Score: 1

What is art? One definition is that art is something made by a person who thinks he/she is an artist and put on show. In that way a programmer might be considered an artist if he would put the code on show. So maybe the only artist of coding are open source people?

  7. Re:Why my vote doesn't count. on And The Winner Is... Nobody! · · Score: 1

I just can't think of a voting system worse than the american one. Why can't the system just work on ratios? If half of the votes go to Republicans and one forth to the Democrat shouldn't the elevttoral votes be split the same way? I mean I just can't see the logic in this system. By the way almost every European politican is hoping for Gore, just so the Euro would start to rise... Oh well you just won't listen...

  8. Intresting on Kids, Computers And Authority · · Score: 1

I still think a computer gives MUCH less authority than a gun...

  9. Sad on Looking Glass Studios Closes · · Score: 1

It's horrible that good orginal game developers close their doors while Westwood continues to make stupid Real time strategy games. (So what they started the genre?) Well I think the employes will find new places to work and hopefully make even better games.

I agree. It''s just bad that the PR missions (read "Mars mission") haven't gone well. I hope they will have funding secured in the future too(?).

  14. This is great on Google Releases WAP Search Tool · · Score: 1

In Finland we our economy is greatly depending on Nokia's success. Finns make good gadgets but no content. So we have WAP network here and phones but nobody has any use for it yet. So maybe this is really a turn for the better.

By the way the chairman of Nokia is almost like Micro$oft's lawyers. A small newspaper aimed at young people wrote (pardon me for my bad translation) "Jorma Ollila's (the chairman) shoulders are suprisingly small" (Ollila has more power in Finland than our goverment and president together...) So Ollila informs the mag that this is clearly an error... It's fun to live in a country lead by a corporation that is lot like Microsoft.

(By the way I hope Nokia will send Slashdot some mail copying their example Microsoft...)

  15. Re:A thousand monkeys on a thousand typewriters .. on ESA Scans SF Books For Ideas · · Score: 1

So maybe we should hire some people to read through what the monkeys are writing... We might even find out other things. So maybe it's better to just stick to SF writers.

  16. Babelfish on A Common (Internet-Based) Language? · · Score: 1

Babel fish is definetly a step to the right way. But there always is bad part. Now let's see I'm Finnish so the Babel fish can't do anything for me (assuming I don't know any larger language... which I don't atleast not too well :). Some languages are just so very different to each other that translateing via a program is not possible in the neaaaaaar future. Let's take a word to demonstrate: Finnish - hyppelisimmekö? English - Could we jump up and down? (not the perfect translation...) It shouldn't be too hard to translate from English to German, because they are related to each other, but when the languages are really different it is impossible. So we still need a common language. But maybe we can chooce from a couple languages that are related.

  17. Printed Manuals on Are Printed Manuals Dead? · · Score: 1

Printed manuals are neccasary today as they were before. Reading something from the screen is not as comftable as reading something which you can carry. Cycling from a program to another program to read helps is very stupid if you compare it to just lifting the manual and reading it. Give us manuals or give us bad programs.

  18. Doesen't bother me... on Verant Backs Down On Drive-Scanning · · Score: 1

I really don't have (too) much trouble with someone scanning my HD IF it really would help destroying cheaters. I just think this really won't help very much. Anyway Microsoft must be doing it already so what does this matter?
