Well, true, either that OR, slightly more plausible - some new hot-shot CIO decided he wants to impress the board by upping the ROI/stock price by getting rid of a few hundred (or thousand) old, slow, smelly "programmers". So he did. Just like HSBC did in 2012, lest we forget. New hot-shot CIO decided..and a new hot-shot l337 h4xx0r from the indian subcontinent decided... to upgrade MQ, of all things. Clearing the "Queue" in MQ makes the upgrade quicker... How many million people couldn't get to their "banking facilities" including, funnily enough, CASH, for a whole week, remind me again? At which point old, slow, smelly "programmers" decided that 27 quid an hour wasn't going to cut it anymore, which it didn't. Not sure what happened to the hot-shot CIO though..
do you have any positive (or negative, for that matter) opinions on use of hemp (as can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...) in batteries? Organic too.. What about graphene?
If he bothered to add the electricity bill of that, then he'd be closer to 0. Unemployed people because of those robots, closer to -$700bn. Social impact that creates? Etc etc. I enjoyed every second of my 1.5-hour lunch breaks (something US "economy" participants can only dream of) in Zueri and I'd do it again, given the opportunity.
They quote some company and another yet provide no links to original research? Interesting.
If by "economy" the journo that quoted an unquotable research paper meant GDP then yes. But you simply need to add just the foreign currency reserves and you're wrong.
If by "economy" he meant anything else then ha-ha (that simpsons character).
For example, the company I worked for in CH had an annual IT budget of more than $1bn. ANNUAL.
Next time either link to original research or bother to investigate and use your brain a little (if you have any)
What sort of an ass are you actually? You are "press" yet no-one gets to see your "material"? As far as that sheriff is concerned you have witnessed an event and if you have material evidence that can help someone solve the case then you are a proper cnut for not giving them the photos straight away. "Press impartiality"? To what? You witness an event and you report on it publicly, what exactly is partial in that?
There was an envirolink gopher site (somewhere at the cmu campus) with envirochat, it was a NUTS talker (no game just chat, like irc), used to spend a lot of time chatting to people from around the globe back then, it felt surreal. I then created and hosted my own but linked to from a web server (!), 94 I think it was. was a valid html tag back then, not sure about now.
I remember reading a book some 10-15 years ago where a statement read something along the lines of: "The history is riddled with people who made discoveries and people who took credit for them" But I can't remember the blimmin name of the book! A brief history of time isn't, a history of nearly everything isn't either... Does anyone know what book I'm talking about?
I spoke to a friend who is in ultra-high-end business about those cd transports and how can one sound better than the other (he's not stupid) and after a while we came to the conclusion (well I did anyway, he knew this) that it all boils down to jitter and real-time error correction. Even nowdays if you wish to rip a cd that's as clean as possible you have to do multipass read with that german free software I forgot what it's called now. And these expensive cd transports do it in real time. Hence the price tag. I believe silver wire ethernet cable will be better and super quality rj45 will contribute in some miniscule way to fewer error corrections on layer 1, bit $10k worth? Don't think so.
Your glance IS superficial. It takes at least 2-3-6 months toget a (basic) grasp of any project and figuring out what needs to be removed in that period is a waste of time. You will find you need to re-implement most of the "crap" you removed in the first place. So patience is your friend. Look, learn, study and then after you know pretty much all code paths decide what can and cannot be refactored, if anything. Good luck!
Probably the biggest reason behind all those thousands (if not milions) of failed projects in the industry is coderz who learned how to code without learning why to code. A degree in computer science doesn't teach you how to code but how to think.
Wouldn't this mean their search for a grand unified theory is now - for all intents and purposes - over?! A single equation should be able to define the universe, including every single one of our feeblee minds in it. 42 to this I say...
don't touch anything if it's been up and running for the past 7 years. if you really must replicate then get some more cheap boxes and replicate. it's cheaper and faster than virtual anything. if you must. but 150 users doesn't warrant anything in my oppinion. I'd rather invest in backup links (from different companies) between offices. you can bond them for extra throughput.
I'm guessing 51356 10* votes managed to more or less cancel-out the 60670 1* so it's pretty-much a level-playing field now. Which is good.
Well, it's already up to 5*
Slashdotted!

This reminds me of a funny email from a "head-hunter" a few years back, it read something like:
Looking for expert knowledge in:
COBOL,
S/360/OS/360,
VAX/VMS
Excellent pay in the region of, wait for it, 30k.
I replied with: Good luck!
Dear John, (see what I did there?)
do you have any positive (or negative, for that matter) opinions on use of hemp (as can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...) in batteries? Organic too..
What about graphene?
Since when does this have anything to do with Slashdot?
Oh we don't even need to go there. I think we can stop at Zug washing machines.

SIP is ideal solution, if only people bothered to use it.

Moaner.

It's either £ or GBP, take your pick.

You will be sorely missed, friend...

Again, introduced by coderz and managerz who learned how to manage projects and not why. It all boils down to the same thing really...
Probably the biggest reason behind all those thousands (if not milions) of failed projects in the industry is coderz who learned how to code without learning why to code.

ha?
Are you for real?
