I'm getting tired of the Gillette model too. I don't think it's true anymore.
It was true when the razor was metal and the blades were merely double edged razor blades, but that's not the case anymore.
The razor is plastic and costs nothing. 99% of the R&D expenses went into figuring out how to make dual and triple bladed, uh blades. According to one class I took, there were some very expensive welding and factory rebuilding problems that had to be solved. But those blade expenses are priced into the blades, and not in the costs of the razor.
Unfortunately some web development clients only understand FTP and can't use sftp. I've played with replacing FTP with WEBDAV, but the DAV clients and servers out there do not interoperate well, yet. Especially it seems XP.
My partial solution is to use a tool like purefptd and use a different set of passwords and a different login file with pureftpd than what is in/etc/passwd. This means that some passwords ARE transmitted in the clear, and these passwords can be used to mangle a website, but the passwords cannot be used to gain shell access.
One of the most famous cases where a cartoon was accepted in court as a factual representation of the fact was in the prosecution of Jim Mitchell for killing his brother Artie.
http://www.crimelibrary.com/criminal_mind/forens ic s/ballistics/5.html?sect=21
Then expert Lucien Haag showed a video of his devising of a computer simulation of the incident. Artie was shown as being shot twice on his way into the hallway and then shot in the head in the hallway. Haag included all eight shots as he believed they would have occurred, although there were only five recorded on the 911 call. The way he did this was to trace the paths of the bullets by calculating in room angles and impact points from the point at which Jim Mitchell was standing when he fired. Haag represented these trajectories with dramatic red lasers.
When the defense, who had stridently opposed having this tape admitted into evidence, asked Haag if there were other possibilities besides the ones he had mapped, he was forced to admit that there were quite a few other possibilities. It was not an exact science, but an interpretation based on speculation.
Given that, if you disagree with war you don't "support our troops" on principle.
Hey Mr. Black & White, sorry you're just wrong.
Turns out that I can make a distinction between the troops, their immediate leaders, and our society's leaders. And it turns out you can't tell me I cannot. Cause that's the beauty of our system. Nyahh, nyahh, nyahh.
Or to put it another way, read my post again, this time without all the baggage you carry into it.
And Mr. Takes Quotes Out of Context, what I said was: "I hope our military uses whatever they can, however they can, legally". Which is to say, that the folks with their ass on the line, on the line for you whether you choose to acknowledge that or cop out, are for the most part young adults and young kids that we've placed in harms way. I take that seriously, while you seemingly would like to avoid that responsibility. If they have a weapon available to them, one that's legal to use in their context, I want them to use it and use it with necessary force.
Please don't tell me of enlightened people. I haven't seen many enlightened people on our planet, mainly just folks pushing their own self interests.
I would like to think that enlightened people do whatever they can, however they can to ensure that human rights are respected and fostered around the world. Dictators and tyrants should be recognized as such and treated appropriately.
Don't tell me why I am supporting this war. You don't know if I am or not, or why I am or not. Don't set up strawmen. Don't associate me with a false karass.
Don't give me a history of the US Military. I specifically said they are not the bad guys "here."
If you don't like this war, what are you really doing about it? How are you protesting in ways that matter? What kind of car are you driving? What have you done wrt ANWR? What insulation is in your house? Do you turn your computers off at night? Do you support the ACLU and the EFF? Have you voted recently? Have you spoken to the candidates or written them letters or visited them in their offices? Have you volunteered?
Or do you just like to badmouth the troops that your carelessness has placed in harms way?

I can't think at one way to make this technology available to everyone, without also making it available to criminals. I thought about it a lot. This has been the focus of the debate in the '90s: many cryptographers tried to think about the way to make this technology available to good people without making it available to bad people, but nobody could find a solution.
Like the telephone?
Yes. For example: after 11 September there were some speculations about the terrorists using some GPS technology. I don't think there is any evidence that they did, they were only speculations that I read in an article at that time. Well, if they did, they were applying technology directly to kill people. You know, it's difficult to fly a plane. It's difficult even to fly it to the airport, it's even more difficult to fly it against the World Trade Centre. It's not a normal path, it would help to have a GPS. This is just speculation. Anyway, the manufacturers could stop making GPS receivers. But what about the rest of us: we benefit from GPS receivers.
By the way, the U.S. Military is not the bad guy here, and by no means do I want anyone to think that I feel that way. Should we go to war, it's our kids that will be the targets of bullets and most likely gas and bio shit, all because in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, our elected leaders sowed the seeds of discontent around the world, and ignored the crop.
I hope our military uses whatever they can, however they can, legally. If you have a problem with the war, run for the PTA, the local council, state government, or federal government. Did you remember to vote?
It sounds very similar to tinydns. Most of the slides in their presentation
look as though they might have been taken from a tinydns presentation, including:
authoritative only makes for simpler software, higher performance, increased security, more robust software
load/reload entire db, with very fast load times, and no incremental changes at runtime
axfr offband (it is not clear how they do this, but it sounds as though nsd is not doing this, and neither does tinydns, it can be done better with other programs (such as rsync)) IIRC, many flames have ignited over tinydns's AXFR support (or supposed lack thereof), and it seems as though the nsd developers chose a design.
One can reasonably ask, if it is so similar, why reinvent tinydns? If it's good that one root server is running nsd, why not implement tinydns on another root server? Or how does nsd differ from tinydns?
Whether one form of trade fluorishes over another should not be due to the distortions of various tax schemes.
If your sole reason for shopping online is only due to the lack of sales tax on your online sales, then this is reason enough for online sales to be taxed.
Let trade compete on value, price, and service, not just the distorting effects of various taxing schemes.
Ah, but the three onboard computers will ensure the engines never run out of gas!
I have no experience in helicopters and only a hundred hours in fixed wing planes, so I assure you, I only envy you your experience and knowledge. When I was learning to fly, I used to watch the Pomona PD practice autorotations, and like I said it was much more thrilling to watch those than to watch a private plane practice power off landings. And the helicopters always landed safely....
Back to Moller and things that can plummet, I found it very interesting that they are to be licensed in this new flight category: powered lift. That sounds to my fearful consumer ears as "no power, no lift, plummet", but Moller claims without providing evidence that the skycar has a reasonable glide rate. Seems hard to believe, the thing barely has any wings. And then for powered off landings, it definitely relies on TWO parachutes....
Still and all, I will happily take possession of the 1500th one off the assembly line (well, as long as it has cup-holders.)
The way autorotation works on a helicopter (not a gyrocopter) is truly amazing. It converts stored energy (height) into rotational energy (you rotate (twist) the blade to decrease their angle of attack "bite" so they spin really fast). Meanwhile you plummet. That's not true. You don't plummet. (But it sure looks that way.)
When you get close to the ground (one chance!) you convert the rotational energy into lift. You retwist the blades generating enough lift to slow you to landing speed.
I've only watched practice sessions. But I think the next step is to change your shorts.
I try to be very polite when posting, but you're really very arrogant and you make many unwarranted assumptions.
I have a static address. And I have a SLA that states flat out that I can do anything that I want to with my line (that's not spam, attacks, or other forms of abuse). I can put any server I want to on that line. That's my relationship with my ISP and it's been that way for more than five years.
You claim to allow me to have my own opinion, and you claim to think that that is fine. But in reality, you don't want to allow me to have my opinion, and you want to interfere with the private relationship I have with my ISP. You want me to change ISPs. You think that only if I pay more am I really a legitimate user. And you don't even know how much I do pay. In reality, you do not think it is fine for people to have their own opinion or for them to be able to act on them. You want to regulate other folks activities even when you have no evidence that that regulation would positively affect you or others one way or another. Please stop claiming that you think it is all right for others to have their own opinions. You really do not.
Just because you have a $60 / month business line has no relevance as to whether others can obtain the same service at the same price, or whether that price is a cost that other legitimate users can or need to be able to pay.
Just because you believe one ISP's claim that they serve business class DSL users different from residential class DSL users, is no reason to think that in general any other ISP, or my ISP actually does treat business class DSL users differently than residential class DSL users.
Again, stop advocating the breaking of the internet.
Stop breaking the net for millions of legitimate home users.
My mail server is much better run, much more reliable, and much more secure than most ISPS.
Instead of using DHCP at all, move to IPV6 and give everyone static addresses.
Give everyone a static IP and stop logging what users do. There is no need, apart from marketing private information, for an ISP to log their own users. Filter spoofed IP packets from emerging from their networks, and then let complaints about malicious user activities (DDOS, SPAM) come with a logged IP address and then the ISP under the right circumstances can track the attacker down, securely, correctly, and without violating everyone's privacy.
And if the complaint is without merit, issue a new IP at the user's request.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that there aren't potentially valid concerns about the Segway and pedestrian safety. I do wish there had been a trial period though to see what happens.
Actually here in Berkeley and Oakland, I frequently see motorized wheelchairs in the streets, and motorized skateboards (?) on the sidewalks. I think both of those are the wrong places for those devices.
As a parent of two little kids, I do wonder who let those motorized skateboards on the sidewalks....
Living in Berkeley, I was disheartened to see the ban on Segways -- I would like to have seen them been given a chance.
I don't understand why there was no trial period, I was hoping to see them compete in the X Games, and I for one can't imagine a better way to get that new sofa home from the Pottery Barn or IKEA.
So many missed opportunities, both real and comedic....
I hope this goes through. It will be a measurement of how willing people are to forfeit privacy for a monetary gain (perceived ability to shift taxes to someone else.)
Did you buy P.Diddy's CD? Maybe I'll try to sell you something from his line of clothes.

Have you bought anything about Linux? Clean underwear.

PacBell now SBC has provided me a very reliable DSL line for more than five years now.
But their email service has been absolutely abysmal. Slow (seven days or more backlog at one point) and errorful.
I can reliably run a business using their DSL and my own mail server. I can't even if I use their mail server just to relay my email.
But I had to tell the insurance company a different story.
