Interesting point: while our "observed" support of Israel (we actually are just about the only country actually actively trying to influence peace in that region) is definitely a reason alot of middle easterners wouldn't mind if we were wiped off the face of the earth, aparently bin laden NEVER spoke of the palestinean/israeli conflict before september 11th, and then suddenly added it onto his list of greivances. I have a feeling no matter what we do, he would find a reason to hate us.

Did you even bother to *READ* my post? I said our age group INCLUDING those a little older and younger. Unless you were 30 years old when you went to college, a little bit younger than college age is high school age. And by the way, I did happen to be in high school two years ago, and believe it or not, they pirate mp3s too.

  4. Re:Why have multiple, exclusive services? on EU May Block Music Labels' Download Sites · · Score: 1

Perhaps we are cheap, but our age group (including those a bit older and those a bit younger) are the driving force behind popular music these days. We buy the most cds, movies, and video games. We are the ones that are targeted by the music industry. AND, at the same time, we're the ones taking advantage of free mp3s the most as well. Quite frankly the fact, that my dad, who perhaps buys 1 cd a year at most, doesn't get music for free, is not as important as the millions of kids downloading entire albums. Oh, and thanks for all the personal attacks, were they really necessary to get your point across?

  5. Re:Why have multiple, exclusive services? on EU May Block Music Labels' Download Sites · · Score: 2, Insightful

You wanna know what people want? FREE MP3s. I'm at college and I guarantee none of my friends here will spend one dime to buy an mp3 online. The efforts to find new sources of mp3s when napster went down and when Audiogalaxy finally started blocking songs in a way where you couldn't still get them are enough to convince me that we would go back to searching ftps if we had to. I hate to sound trollish, but people are cheap, and once you've sampled getting whatever music you want for free, the idea of going back to actually *gasp* paying for it does not sit too well.

  6. he's dead if you didn't know on Kubrick's AI Spawns Distributed Client / Cognition · · Score: 1

Maybe it's just me, but I kinda think that the "Kubrick's (Spielberg's)" thing is a bit off...it's Steven Spielberg's movie. HE did the directing. Sure it was originally gonna be a Kubrick project, but he died before it ever even got off the ground. Kubrick's involvement in the film that we will see is extremely minimial, if at all. Maybe this is just a gigantic nitpick, but considering that the project WAS declared dead before Spielberg decided to pick it up, I don't see how there's any confusion "who's" movie this is.

  7. Re:Why am I not surprised? on RIAA Trains Legal Sights On Aimster · · Score: 1

I wouldn't be so fast to say that Napster caused record sales to grow..there are many, MANY factors involved with that. For example, releasing 3 backstreet boys albums in one year comapred to 2 the year before would increase sales tremendously, and that has nothing to do with Napster. I have yet to see any proof that shows that Napster has directly increased music sales.

Actually, latin people are represented quite well in baseball. I think baseball and football are the two sports that carry a good mix of the races. Basketball tends to be heavily black, hockey tends to be heavily white. But you know what? I could care less. I just wanna watch the people who are good. If blacks can play better, then put on blacks. If whites can play better, then put them on and listen to Reverend Al complain about it. But that's a different rant. :P

Why don't we all stop beating around the bush. We all know what everyone uses Napster for. Heck, even I used it to trade copyrighted material (before my college decided to limit the transfer speeds with napster down to basically nothing). While i understand the ideas behind file sharing and how it can do things like promote smaller bands, and i understand that the RIAA is basically going crazy, and that the laws on the books suck, the RIAA is most likely going to win this in the end. While wipeout was definately a success, final fantasy 7 made the psx a hit where it truly counts for the console companies (not counting microsoft, yet): Japan. the playstation and sega saturn were close rivals for the hearts of the japanese, until ff7 came out. after that, the console CLEARLY pulled away from saturn, on its way to being the most successful (nonportible) console of all time.

While sega does put out quality games by themselves, sony has mostly left it up to third party developers. It was the third party developers that made the playstation successful, and it will be the third party developers that make the xbox successful. On another note, I'm kinda sick of hearing people complain about new games and say that we should all go back to the "golden days" of donkey kong and pac-man. Sure, those were good games for the time, but they're damn near 20 years old! I don't WANT to play a game with sprites that big anymore. I like a game with a little bit more complexity. I would say I've gotten plenty of enjoyment out of Crazy Taxi and SSX, two games which are fine examples of good graphics with good gameplay. I'm just tired of the "graphics = crap" arguement that goes around. While I will agree most ps2 games right now kinda...uh...blow...give them time. The psx didnt have its real "killer app" till final fantasy 7, and that was a couple of years after release. Don't worry, it'll happen again.
