Securing the protocol isn't an answer to the ops question. I certainly wouldn't trust my unencrypted files to a 3rd party. And if you're going to encrypt your files, the tranport method matters somewhat less (though I'd still prefer sftp especially for the authentication).
It seems lego has been moving more and more over my lifetime of 27 years from interchangable brick type pieces to specialized pieces of plastic that are really only useful with the original kit.
Granted I haven't purchased a pack in 15-odd years, but when i look at them at the store, many of the pieces are very specialized.
"Europeans, with shorter flights and lower expectations of privacy"
It has nothing to do with privacy, and everything to do with the fact that nobody wants to sit in a tin can listening to some guy talk for 2 hours about his hemorrhoids and digestive problems.
Good luck trying to find a job throuh a portal at your age and experience level. If you want to get a good job, you're either going to have to go out and meet people. Join local user groups. I can almost guarantee that you're not going to have much luck otherwise. Welcome to the real world.
Alternatively, go to school. You'll be better off in the long run.
Perhaps instead of trying to find qualified people for a low salary, you should try to find quality people that are intelligent and eager to learn, with minimal experience (they should be able to tell you about ssh and port 25). I have no sympathy for companies that complain about a lack of qualified people when they want the moon in skills but offer a smaller salary than a guy can make driving a fed-ex truck.
I use and recommend rsnapshot for taking disk-to-disk backups of unix based servers and PCs. It has a *really* slick directory structure where each daily/weekly/monthly backup directory is a *full* snapshot - but by using hard links, it only saves the changed files multiple times. Also, because it uses rsync, it only copies changed files across the network, and can use ssh no problem.
It's downsides: it's basically just a wrapper for rsync. It requires a lot of babysitting (if your backups fail for some reason, it'll try to do full backups the next day possibly with disasterous consequences as it tries to jam hundreds of gig down your T1). Also, it has to log in as root on all of your boxes, so there are some very careful sercurity considerations.
But a box with a bunch of disks in it, put it off site, and whamo you have a complete backup solution.
For the windows users, I like backuppc. I have never actually used it, but it allows windows users to choose when their backups are taken, and allows them to recover files themselves through a web interface. It's big downside is the cryptic way it stores files internally, making it really hard to extract files without using the web interface.
The FreeBSD versioning takes a little getting used to. If you want to cvsup to FreeBSD 5.4-RELEASE, you'd cvsup to RELENG_5_4. RELENG_5 is always pointed at 5-STABLE, which is the development head for 5.
So, for FreeBSD 6-RELEASE you'd cvsup to RELENG_6_0.
The point is that I don't think mere ideas are worth anything at all in a capitalist sense. Did it cost you anything to have an idea? No. All the value is in the implementation. And FYI, I'm not really even a big fan of capitalism. I think "intellectual property" will one day make capitalism as unworkable as communism (for different reasons). The screwed up patent system is just one symptom. But I digress...
FWIW, Paul Graham recently published an essay on the exact same idea.

Well, I came from netsol. Netsol has just as many ads you have click through, except that they are deceptive. More than once I accidently signed up for their DNS service becuase i didn't correctly answer "Do you not want us to not host DNS for you?" Yes[] No[]
Godaddy has a lot of ads, and probably terrible support - but that's the trade off when you want to pay $8/year. And I've never had to contact support. When you buy a domain they even have "expert" links that'll skip all that crap.
Of course godaddy's web hosting is probably crappy. I don't see what that has to do with their registrar service.
I receive a lot of snail-mail deceptive advertising from register.com, and I would never use them.
Godaddy works for me, and is less than a third of the price. They are the largest domain registrar out there now, and I don't worry about my domains at all.
I have "SEE ID" on my card.. and recently tried using it at a US post office.. The clerk said that my card wasn't valid unless signed, and refused to accept it. At first I thought he was joking or something, but no, he would not take my card. I had to leave and get cash (all my cards say SEE ID). He said it was post office policy.. I havn't tried since then, so I don't know if it was just that guy or if it's at any post office.. But I thought it was pretty ridiculious.
You could also deal 2 matching hands with only 1 deck. Actually you could deal 4 royal flushes with a single deck. At this point, if I remember correctly, the money stays in the pot, and goes to the winner of the next round.
Ties "chop", or split the pot between the people with equal hands.
He then said that he was used to using the mouse in the left hand because "that's what he'd been taught was the smartest to do"...... riiiiight.
The old programmer guys I work with all are right handed, but use their left hand for their mouse. They claim it's more efficient because then you can use that space on the right to take notes and whatnot. I don't really get it myself..
Not entirly terrible. I used to be a car salesman and if you can get your FICO score over 720 you can essentially write your own deal on a car (new or used), same goes for getting the best deal on a home loan. The catch is that if the credit companies know you are reliable but not profitable your score will top out at the low 700's. Now as a previous poster mentioned, he got in over his head, as did I (which is why I'm an uneducated nitwit, I couldn't afford even JC tuition). The one thing I did right is covered in #3 of GP post, Never i>EVER let the credit companies loose money off you. If your FICO gets below 600 you are destined to live in an apartment the rest of your life. just my 2c
First of all, it's LOSE, not LOOSE. Not to be an ass, but that drives me nuts.
Now, as far as FICO goes, all I know is my own experience. Last I checked, my FICO was ~750 - and like I said I've never carried a balance on credit cards. It's absolutly terrible advise to tell someone to carry credit card balances to build credit.
3. Let them make a little money off of you now and then. (Third most important rule.) Miss a payment? OK, then pay it in full next month. They will get to charge you a little interest, a rather big penalty, and they will get all their original money back. They like that. Or, pay on time but carry a little balance now and then if otherwise convenient.
That's bull shit. I've always always paid my balances in full - and I've had no problems getting car loans and mortgages. You may be technically right, I'm not sure - but it's certainly not worth paying that interest and penalties for the extra point on your FICA score. Either way it's terrible advise.
I was going to mod you down as flamebait, but then I reconsidered, mainly because you seem to be one of the few people that understand the Declaration of Independence: the government is the servant of the people, not the other way 'round.
Still, I wish people would quit focusing so exclusively on the evils of the current administration, and acting like John Kerry would be so much better. It's exactly the kind of thinking that got us W four years ago. Remember? Clinton was corrupt to the core, Gore was seen as Clinton-Lite, and we voted (yes, W won, get over it) for W instead because he had to be better than Gore.
We need to stop thinking of Democrat and Republican and start thinking about 3rd parties, returning to the limited government our Founding Fathers envisioned.

For what it's worth, rsnapshot is based on Mike Rubel's scripts that you refer to.
I use and recommend rsnapshot for taking disk-to-disk backups of unix based servers and PCs. It has a *really* slick directory structure where each daily/weekly/monthly backup directory is a *full* snapshot - but by using hard links, it only saves the changed files multiple times.
