The sauropods in Jurassic Park were brachiosaurs, and they're pretty much designed to have upright necks - their forelegs are longer than the rear legs, so its head has to be higher than its heart unless there was a huge kink in its spine - ISTR the theory being that it had a big muscle in its neck that acted like a blood pressure collar which forced the blood upwards...
There was a B5 starfury sim in development a couple of years back, but it got canned when Sierra got rid of the development staff (see here).
Speaking of space sims, I've been playing a lot of Invasion, the new Trek game for the PSX, which is also officially nifty...going up against Borg Cubes and Warbirds in a ship that can strafe, cloak, and go into warp backwards...plus you get Worf and Picard for your money, very nice...
It's amazing, fewer Russians have died in space than US astronauts
I was under the impression that no-one's ever actually died in space - the US has had Apollo 1(launchpad) and Challenger (midair), and the Russians have had a few, er, issues with parachutes on re-entry...ICBW, have I missed anything?
I could have got f1rst p0st, but I thought I'd put in a bit of effort thinking of an acronym...It's completely relevant to the discussion, I thought I'd be safe, but seeing as it's the first time one of my posts has been modded one way or the other, can't complain:)
Hyperspatially Orthogonal Transmission of Gravitational Rays In Twisted Space, or HOTGRITS for short... Damn...I think I've just used up my day's supply of long words...
Bruce Perens?!?! Is the Debian contract speculative fiction now? I think it was more likely to have been Arthur C. Clarke in 'Wind from the Sun', proving once and for all that NASA have done no real research for years, preferring instead to read SF and watch old movies...I wonder when they'll get round to launching a Twin Ion Engine craft...
A group of Japanese scientists today claimed success in their attempts to grow larger lizards, moths and three-headed dragons. Inhabitants of Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto are being advised to evacuate their homes immediately.
If people looked hard enough, they could find something bad that just about anyone has done. Mother Theresa could probably be made out to be lowlife vermin
What, like the evidence that she denied pain medication to the sick and dying because their suffering brought them 'closer to Jesus'? They're waaay ahead of you on that one...
If I remember correctly, there are a stack of other fairly important physical constants which can be derived mathematically from c, and vice versa...can't remember which ones anymore, I purged all actual knowledge of physics from my brain after I left university to make room for more Simpsons quotes (This perpetual motion machine is a joke! it keeps going faster and faster...) But then, c is the speed of light in a vacuum, which is still fixed - all this caesium business is just showing off...
AC1:I'm not sure about whether bypassing the notes system like this is a good idea, but I guess the slashdot idiots are not as savvy as they like to think. What security do we have here ?
AC2:Fuck all. (Security through obscurity, if you like) Don't post anything here that you wuldn't be happy with the whole world seeing. Particularly, I have no real knowledge about Cosby and Theo's abilities to monitor posts by internal IP addresses, so write every word here as if you knew they were going to read it (you're a fucking dumbass with a stupid hat, Rob:-))
The phrase 'be careful what you wish for' springs to mind...
Very interesting and disturbing stuff in there...A very elaborate troll, or the second face of slashdot?
How is this any different from Sony announcing the PS2 last year? Or Nintendo announcing the Dolphin (there were many people at the time accusing Nintendo of spreading FUD for being so vague about the spec of their wonder machine).
Good games are taking longer and longer to develop, trying to attract developers to a machine before anything's actually been built isn't FUD, these days it's SOP.
CD's on the otherhand, will last for a 100 years in a "BEST CASE" scenario. Most will last much less time. CDRs might last 25 years.
That was pretty much my point, but I probably should have been clearer...the data won't be readable by anyone, the archaeologist will just keep digging up millions of these shiny discs, like they do with pottery shards, and have to come up with a theory to explain them:)
My worry is that at some distant point in the future, all our paper will have rotted away and people think that the CDs were our primary means of communication, like Babylonian pottery shards..

Oldie, but goodie
I believe such a system is already in operation in the Jamiroquai house...
Again, unless they chage your e-mail address since they've already convinced Amazon that they are you.
Except they can't, because changing your address, viewing orders or anything other than 1-click still requires you to login...

I wonder how they'd have done if they hadn't been in the news every day from getting sued by everyone in the world ever...
After all, it is more secure, just what you need to deal with Cracks of Doom...
No? I'll get my coat...
Though you can run Linux on an ear of corn, thanks to all the kernels.
ba-dum-dump!
I kill myself
oh good...saves anyone else the trouble then :)

I'm holding out for a decent pair of seven-league boots...
