What if this idiot worked extremely hard at Uni, getting good grades and a decent education, is now trolling slashdot before launching back into his own little android project.
Seriously, people later in life are allowed to change careers, and can make decent [insert new position here].
I did a written "programming" test on Thursday (and passed! - now for the interview). I was ok with it, since I knew that thats what I was there for.
Except question 10, the correct answer was not one of the available answers. So two sheets of paper later, explaining how the pseudo-code works and why all the answers are wrong, and bingo interview! ("Call you by Wednesday! Huh!")
Also took the time to correct the spelling of "colour" throughout the test.
I may not be a good programmer (yet), but I'm an expert Grammar Nazi.
they aren't choosing to buy snake oil. they're choosing to buy a product they think will benefit them, which in fact will in no way benefit them in the means advertised by the manufacturer of that product. a lot of scammy stuff is legal (publisher's clearinghouse) but this guy seems to go way over the line with the deception including overpriced books that are at best full of untruths and at worst medically dangerous.
Whaaa? isn't this where the saying "buying snakeoil" came from - people who use to sell snakeoil claiming it cured everything?
I think the point he's making is that he's blocking a country's list where that country has demonstrably proven not to trust its own citizens with the internet. Why should he?
If you are offended, just block US subnets in retaliation?
And of course, whichever party wins will believe it has a mandate to put in place a national internet filter with no public oversight.
This is the worst bit. Once upon a time, having a "mandate" to force through a certain issue in Australia meant a referendum. Impossible to pass in Oz, so Governments now assume that voting for them is a "mandate" for all issues even those they consider after the election.
Thanks, but I'll never send out my credit card number when I can help it. The nab - to date - has refunded all of my money incorrectly (never) or illegally (twice) taken.
Mind you, these people all want to have their life's options explored. They are not all for killing themselves now, just may not want to be vegetable burdens in the future, much like many of us.
How long until Capt. Kevin makes it a crime to either a) bypass the filter b) assist others to bypass the filter c) both of the above.
wtf are you all on about
nokia are doing this because they realise that China pirates as much as possible and it is difficult to make money Western-ways in China: "an acknowledgment of the difficulty in monetizing music sales in a region overwhelingly (sic) dominated by piracy." http://www.digitaleastasia.com/2010/04/10/nokias-comes-with-music-service-hits-china-drm-free/
this is an attempt by nokia to make some money in china in the face of overwhelming piratanical odds.
Don't. EVER. Visit. Italy.
Yeah, but I think his point is to check if all the systems are windows. ie no *nix of any kind...
Having said that most of the interviews I've been to in the last three weeks are ".net developer" jobs.

While we still can
http://www.internationaltaskforce.org/faq.htm
the Cronulla Beach Riots in Sydney happened but a couple years back where ordinary Australians fought pitched battles against foreigners.
They were fighting against first generation Aussies (kids of refugees from the Lebanese civil war 67ish), who "refuse" to Australianise.
Aborigines were shot or hit by cars and killed and the attitudes of police were to treat it as an animal death up till the 1980's.
1967 (that year again) we voted (by 97% popular vote) to recognise the indigenous popluation as people
Do not confuse a laid back attitude with conservative beliefs. Because Australia, averagely is very conservative.
This makes no sense. We are conservative, but moreso because ideas - like decent smartphones - take frikken ages to get to Oz...

We need more options!
I for one welcome our new, Zimmer-frame wielding overlord!
