Also, Any Company can open source its software and try to sell it to the state, you could even open source a windows software, they will have windows desktops for a long time. This way we can all see the code and audit it to see if there isn't any security flaws or maybe just help in making the software better. If my country(brazil) would only allow open source software I would be willing to help to make the IRSS software better(if it was written in Python or Delphi/kylix).

Tectoy is a great toy company here in Brasil and they are making master system and a lot of other sega consoles and games since I was very young(now i 'm 18). I'm sure they where granted by sega to make this console and all the games that come with it.
Also brasil is not comparable to china. Here we have patent law just like in the us. I don't know what you are afraid of, piracy is not legal here.

Here in Brazil we doesn't have any linux distros, and even red hat doesn't have a good set of drivers and fonts for portuguese, so this distro was a very good thing for Brazilian people. Maybe you don't even know that our portuguese is not the same that is used in Portugal. Just one example: "bicha" in portugal means a queue and in brazil it means gay or fag. See, we needed a linux distro that could be used here without knowing english. And there are a lot of things that are so diferent that we needed Conectiva
And the guy that made WindowMaker is from Brazil, and works there, he made APT to work with rpms and also made the GUI.
I thought that you all already know that, Alfredo Kojima(The creator of WMaker) made a version of apt-get that works with RPM. It is been distribuited in Brazil by Conectiva(www.conectiva.com) and it works! I couldn't make it donwload the kde 2.01 but maybe it is just me.

I use linux for a good time and I know that if you start taking your system down to install a new kernel every time they do a new one you will end up with 0 uptime. The downtime is the time the machine stop doing what it is supposed to be

In this day it will be a debian GNU/linux version for head chips. After all they have ported it 11 different processors

They made a portuguese version because conectiva is from Brazil, not because it was a good market option.
