    Good point with the "gas" thing, I agree it might provide the fix for today, but I doubt fossil fuels are politically or environmentally viable in the long term, also consider dependency on eastern "gas" powers, gas resources are something Germany is not very well known for.

    Fearing the EV revolution behind the door, the motor engineers are finding ways to stay relevant, but the idea of a Volkswagen gasoline engine running in every home is questionable, fossil fuels are not something people want to stay here forever (nor in their homes).

    Do not forget OLPC screen resolution is very much like 800 x something, therefore they probably mean 1080p video source, but in reality displaying a small scaled-down image only.

    They pushed the copyright law to over hundred years (just to make sure they will make money of writers even after they are dead), now comes our big brother Google to the ring to resurrect all the OUT OF COPYRIGHT books -- meaning those dead books that publishers no longer exclusively distribute. What an offense against the poor publishers. Google is creating a real e-Library of enormous proportions of virtually free books, what a threat. I bet I am not alone who wants to see the Newton's books on physics e-published again and searchable.

    They have state of the art redundancy (I presume), and they have been extremely reliable so far. So this is really IS surprising and interesting. Hopefully nothing major happened to Google's infrastructure. I even opened CNN to see whether some 9/11 event is not in progress or something... GOOD thing they are back online now.

    Actually you are right, unfortunately for us they still booting their operating systems and learning SQL syntax, they had much trouble to read and sequence the DNA, now have PB of data waiting to be analyzed, it will take some years, decade or even decades, pretty likely our generation will not see any major and useful results from this DNA biology as this is just the very beginning of the research.

    Google is making the books searchable with one intent in mind, to know what you are searching for, so they can offer relevant ads and targeted marketing leads.
