We went with MontaVista because, at the time, it was the best pre-compiled solution with RPM support that ran mostly out of the box. We're exploring other options and have used various cross-compilers to build binaries for the Pepper Pad. In theory, if another distribution will build, it will run.:)
We're not officially working on any other distributions at the moment but we're exploring our options in our (lack of) spare time.
Precisely. Traffic is traffic. Chances are that some/. reader will buy something from cruise.com by the end of the day even if the majority of us are taking the side of the anti-spammer.
I had an incredibly witty thought that I wanted to share with the rest of the world, so I launched ecto, my blog client. An update was available, so I downloaded and installed it. That reminded me that I hadn't run versiontracker pro for a while, so I proceeded to launch that. Of course, an update to the software I use to check for updates with was available, so I downloaded and installed the update. Then Acrobat, BitTorrent, LimeWire, Poisoned, etc. While everything was downloading, I checked on the make install status of glibc on my Pepper Pad. Halfway done.
I'd venture to guess that the hits from the other thousand sites that have been linking to him for the past year or so generate infinitely more traffic than some random comment buried deep in the Slashdot hierarchy.;)
Gallery has built-in slideshow capability and you can create unlimited albums and sub-albums. Just e-mail him a link to the latest album on the Web and have him set his Gallery preferences to flip through the slideshow at X seconds per image. Both Web and fullscreen Java slideshow is supported.
Another vote for Mambo, although it takes a lot of work to keep it from looking like the cookie cutter default templates. Here are some samples of sites that went online and made only minimal changes to the templates:
There's nothing NWS/NSFW on that page. Clicking the innocent photo in the upper-right is your own damn fault since the URL is obviously a porn site; you do look at the URL before you click, right?
And some of us are good friends with Adobe employees who can get us full legit copies Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, and VersionCUE) for $150.:)

I personally prefer Intarweb. :)
Ha. I just bought it because I'm in it (a victim of a spammer sending as my domain).

Wow. This /. article is a pretty good ad for cruise.com. ;)
You knead to grain a sense of humor.
Yup, I work for them. Right now some partners are working with prototypes, but that's it. :)
Yup. I'm the admin. Oooh, bright shiny button! Where's my purple again?

Why the heck was ecto open again?

Cut to scene of old guy waving hand around laptop screen searching for wires...
Niiice...
The story is that it's no big surprise that graphics-intensive Web sites can't survive a good Slashdotting.
That was two Slashdottings ago for the Star Wars Car at NASIOC.
