  1. Re:What does this have to do with the Test Ban Tre on Using GPS To Detect Secret Nuclear Tests · · Score: 1

Interestingly AFTAC has been monitoring nuclear weapons testing worldwide since long before 1996 and had/has the means to measure them very accurately. Too bad the USA didn't look to its own technology(/sarcasm). Get Moose and Squirrel!

  2. GPS sats already used to detect nuclear detonation on Using GPS To Detect Secret Nuclear Tests · · Score: 2

GPS satellites contain a package called NDS or Nuclear detonation Detection System. They have since the very first launch of the very first satellite. I know this because I was in the USAF and worked the ground station for NDS starting with Block 1 GPS satellites when they were just early test platforms to prove the GPS technology. So, this is absolutely nothing new to me. Sincerely, Symnron Get Moose and Squirrel!

  3. Tech Commission in the Copier Industry on Ask Slashdot: Compensating Technical People For Contributing to Sales? · · Score: 1

I don't know how it works all over but I work for a copier sales and repair company. When a service tech sees an opportunity for a sale they discuss it with the customer then tell them that they will pass on the lead to the sales rep. After that they write up a lead sheet and give it to the appropriate sales rep. If there is a sale from the generated lead within 60 days then the tech gets a commission in the range of 25 to 150 dollars per machine sold depending on the cost of the machine. The techs also get a commission on selling professional IT services time blocks at a rate of 8% for new IT services customers and 4% for renewals. As a tech myself I find it gives me an incentive to keep my eyes and ears open for potential sales leads. Get Moose and Squirrel! 4. In a word, sliderules! on Preventing Networked Gizmo Use During Exams? · · Score: 1

When I took physics, all of our measurements were only accurate to 3 digits for most things. Using a calculator that's good to 8 or 13 digits will actually throw off your calculations and give you bad answers. My physics professor required, and even supplied, sliderules. These worked to 3 digits and made us do a little thinking on the side. We also did open note/open book tests in that class and were allowed to use any reference or resource in the class except other students. This included, as one student figured out, the professor himself. A little unusual but Mr. Gaskins was the most awesome physics professor of all time. Just my 0.02 USD worth.

This is nothing new. I see people driving cars with cellphones and iphones all the time. One hand on the phone, one on the cigarette, one on the coffee cup. That doesn't leave any for the steering wheel so they must be driving the car with the phone. Get Moose and Squirrel!
