The owner of a venue has every right to point camras at the crowd, turnstyles, anywhere but the bathrooms. Get used to it. You step on my property, I can take your picture. Period.
How about Global Thermalnuclear War?
Anyway.
Never underestimate humanity's ability to create and destroy very expensive equipment all for the purpose of seeing who has a better equiped army. This whole thing reminds me of something Regan did called "Star Wars", shooting missles out of the sky with ground and satalite based lasers. It never went over because of the cost. Humanity needs a wake up call. Destruction is not a good thing at all! We need to stop fighting or we will destroy ourselves.
In the chicago area Commenwealth Eddison has been rolling blackouts, especially in summer for a long time. You can even opt to pay more for "uninterruptable power". The company I work for has a huge generator so we can run our business during blackouts. We used to be on the unteruptable plan, but CE cut our power one day anyway, so being the multi-billion-per-yer computer reseller that we are (CDW) we couldn't take even a few hours of down time so we stoped paying for the uninteruptable power and put in a huge generator for downtime power.
JVC is too egotistical about this whole thing, thinking they can charge this much for the device and media, and thinking that they can force people into buying DVI HDTVs equiped with their decoder. This will bomb on the market and become a forgotten standard for home users. This will however be very useful for industry video production. I look forward to using it for this purpose.
Talk about a walk down memory lane. KQ4. When I saw that listed in the top 10 list I was so happy it made it. I have most of the games on that list (even Falcon 3.0) and have a great deal of good memories of those games that helped launch me into the relationship I have with computers today. What a beautiful tribute and what a beautiful article.
Sorry folks, if you are waiting for 3DFX to make a card with this chipset, you will wait forever. Anyone and everyone in the industry knows that 3DFX has pulled out of the card industry and is going back to just selling their chips to other companies. If a card ever comes out with this on it, it won't be made by 3DFX themselves. Besides, forget about this 3DFX crap and embrace the future with NVidia! Wake up people!
Wow, you guys must be pretty hard up for posts if you posted something as old as this on here. I read about this robot and some of its predecessors about a year ago. I also have seen a show on TV (Discovery Channel I think) that was on this and some other robots, but Honda seems to have the best walking robot right now. While It does make for interesting conversation, this news is old news, and while I have seen old news on here before, this pretty much takes the cake for old and moldy Slashdot material. Just my $0.02
Tate can talk all he wants to about engines, tires, and filling a need, but the fact of the matter is that he and his company are just power hungry and are trying to take over the memory industry, digging their roots deep, until you can't kill them without killing the whole of the forest of the memory industry, or even the jungle of the computer industry. It's simply a case of this little company waiting a decade and suddenly saying, "Oh, by the way, we invented all that, and now we want money. See you all in court!" Greedy bastards.
I'll probably get flamed by one side or another for saying this, but as much as I like Apache, IIS, espcially IIS 5 running on Win2k does outperform Apache by a long shot on static web content. Apache does have some capbabilities to outperform IIS on dynamic content, but comparing win2k IIS 5 on win2k to Apache this advantage is hardly there anymore. The truth is, the TCP/IP stack in Win2k kicks serious ass and for some reason outperforms Linux's current TCP/IP stack by a long shot.
Apache has some serious advantages though, including better security than IIS and better stability overall. Basically, an analogy that fits: Apache; driving around the corner at a safe speed, with no chance of crashing or rolling over, and your pasengers remain securly in their seats. IIS; driving around the corner at a very fast unsafe speed, where two things can happen. You could possible make it around the corner quickly, passing up all traffic and getting to your destination a little sooner, or you could roll the car over, crashing, and your pasengers could loose their secure location in their seats, and fly out to their deaths. Personally, I believe the Apache way is the way to go, reliability and security is more important than speed. That is why I love Apache.
Screw the Olympic Commitie.
Its all a commercial thing now.
The Olympics is supposed to be the countries of the world coming together to pit their best amature athletes against each other. Problem is, the Olympic commitie is only interested in making money.
Oh my god! I remember that movie. My father has worked for Pinkerton Security in the past. He says "They couldn't tell their ass from a hole in the ground." They are the most disorganized security company. I've heard from certain authorities that in about 30 states that Pinkerton Security is very close to loosing their license for private security practice because of customer complaints. I don't trust Pinkerton any farther than I can throw them. They started out as the best private security money could buy, but they sold out to some large conglomerate and it went downhill from there.

If I were there, I would do it.
Now that was funny!
