I personally use a bluetooth enabled phone, bluez kernel bluetooth drivers, and a bluetooth headset all nicely together. This lets me connect to the internet with my phone and I can use the bluetooth headset to talk on the phone hands free and wire free. I think that this makes it a very usable technology. If bluetooth is dead, then why are so many people working so fast to support it so well in Linux?
Yeah, sure Darl, IBM sicked Linus on you. He wasn't going to speak up for his life's work, but now that IBM has "put him on the stage" he is going to attack you, just because IBM told him to. Actually Darl, it goes back farther than that. You see, quite a few years ago, IBM special agents built their latest robot. It was called the Liuns 10000, and was much better and faster than the HAL 9000. They planted this robot in Finland and and gave it the fake last name of Torvalds. I mean, common, "Torvalds", that's not a real last name. Not very many people in the world have that last name, so it must be a conspiracy. They implanted code into its memory circuit from some old ass Unix and set it to write its own OS at some time in the future, around the early 90's so that this robot, and its code, could single handedly destroy SCO. Most of the people in the world would believe that this OS was written to make computers run better and some would even believe that it was written to compete with the inferior Windows OS, but in actuality, it was written to destroy the one true enemy of the free world, SCO. Its a conspiracy I tell you.
Over 80% of the emails I receive into my main email box are spam. If I get one more "buy this pasta pot" or "enlarge a body part" email I'm gonna go crazy. Seriously, I'd like anyone'e opinion/ideas on what may be done about the spam issue besides filters. Any ideas? Post!
I agree. Look at Wal-Mart. Those guys use any and all tactics including exploitation of local ordinances to put the local shops out of business in many small towns.
Starving people in third world countries sometimes loose 20 or more pounds a month. That doesn't mean that they are healthy.
There are many diets you can go on which will help you loose weight, but many of them, most likely including the Atkins diet are not healthy for one's body. Sure, if you cut out carbs you will take in a lot less calories, but you will be missing many things your body needs from carbs. Also, a diet high in fats may not be bad, but if they are the wrong types a fats, you may loose weight, but that just means that the paramedics will be doing CPR on a thin person and won't have to strain their backs as much when they lift your lifeless body onto the gurnee after you die of a heart attack caused by the buildup in your arteries. Any diet that tells you to cut out all of any particular type of food is usually bad. Some losses your body experiences on these diets can be made up for with nutritional supplements (pills, shakes, etc.) but for the most part, a lot of what you crave to eat is based on what your body needs. I have seen people do the exact opposite of the Atkins diet, cutting out most fats and sticking to mostly carbs. They loose weight, but they aren't healthy either. One guy I know cut all meat out of his diet and he lost a lot of weight. He later found out that he had low levels of many amino acids that the body requires and that he was also anemic. He started eating meat again and became much healthier.
The best diet is to cut down on calories in general, taking in a proper amount of calories from carbs, fats, and sugars. Any excess calories can and should be burned off by regular exercise. Moderation and exercise are the keys to weight loss. Atkins presents one way to loose weight, but his method is extreme, and when it comes to one's body and health, extremes are usually a bad thing.
Well, you can't get the quad card yet either. I'm sure by the time the Tivo quad card is available, the 320GB drives will be flying off the shelves already. The only thing I want to know is what the hell I would do with 1200 hours of Tivo recording time. Also, I wonder if anyone is actually going to spend the large sum of money needed to max this out when the 320GB drives are available.
Finding and publishing a security hole in an OS is not a way to circumvent copyright protection. If I take over somebody's True64 machine via this security hole, I haven't broken copyright at all. Now, if I take documents off of the server, then I may be breaking copyright, but I don't think the connection is strong enough to stand up in a court of law. I could hold up a book store with a gun and make them give me their books. I've stolen the books and therefore broken copyright. Does that mean we should ban guns since they are a possible copyright protection circumvention device?
What currently is the best movie FX platform and OS? What kind of software, machines, video cards, etc. do you currently use for your CG? Also, what is a good platform, OS, and software package for a beginner low budget movie artist to start out on?
"Creative's Audigy card doesn't do 24-bit/96KHz sound, despite Creative's claims."
This is old news. We knew this when the first reviews of the card came out.
The only way to get 24bit 96KHz audio from a creative sound card is to buy the Extigy. It is the only audio card Creative makes that actually does 24bit 96KHz audio.
"The Phantom's workspace roughly represents the 'reach' of the player, so you will usually have to move the player, in addition to the Phantom, to reach the ball."
This could only be a surprise to someone who has been buried under a rock for the last year. If you keep up with the industry at all, you would have been reading the press releases about the vote quite a few months ago.
This quote makes me laugh!
"If CDs were as hard to copy as DVDs or VHS tapes or even books, we would not be going through anything like what we're going through now with Napster or Gnutella."
All I have to say about it:
[DVD copying] CHECK!
[VHS copying] CHECK!
[Book copying] CHECK!
[Copy Protected CD copying] Coming Soon!
I look forward to this.
It isn't every day that one has the opertunity to go back and change an error this profound. I look forward to what he is going to do with the film to make it complete. Maybe he will show some of the scenes that help develop the characters. That would be welcome.

Good luck at your FBI job interview... er I mean hearing on Thursday.

I dunno about this. It smacks of effort.
This is a dumb article. Its rumor mongering, not "News for Nerds". I guess it must be a slow news day or something.
How the fuck did this get modded up?
I would give it a funny rating, but insightful?, Geez.
In case anyone wanted to know:
838,401,376 shares voted for the merger.
793,094,105 shares voted against.
13,950,651 shares abstained.
Sounded pretty close to me.
Mergers of companies this big usually have close votes though.
This could only be a surprise to someone who has been buried under a rock for the last year. If you keep up with the industry at all, you would have been reading the press releases about the vote quite a few months ago.
Nice Signature.
Hit the nuke button. Watch the lemmings all explode. You even see little Lemming pieces in the air. Not violent at all, no?
My DSL has more uptime than my power.

I agree. Quality > or = quantity.
The rack could be used to wind twine into rope. The iron maiden could double as a wardrobe. Windows 9x/2000. Well, ya got me there...
