To be fair, and I'll play the devil advocate for once, not all Windows users are slashdotters. Yes, you,/. reader, belong to the cream of the cream of the IT knowledgeable people on Earth. For the remaining 99%, Windows is just a tool to run some games, play movies, open IE and watch porn, and to occasionally feed some accounting basic Excel spreadsheets. So MS takes over, sometimes, and decides for you what's good, what's bad. And acts accordingly. And maybe this is better for most users. Of course, however how deep you'd have to dig it, there must be an option - intended for the advanced user - to switch off any of those intrusive features.
There's really no reason for Apple not to give more information on their hardware, other than forcing you to forgo a $50 repair
- Don't feed competition with detailed manufacture information
- Ensure a constant and high level of service
- Keep the same components in all devices
- Image preservation: don't look like some other cheap brands
Not a fanboi, just trying to find relevant arguments (plus the obvious ones you gave) that help Apple to stay at the top of the standards...

Marissa Mayer was an executive at Google. She went to Yahoo to get all their remaining users to move to gmail (why were they still using yahoo is an interesting question that's not in the scope of this post). Well done Marissa, we hope your bonus will be significant when you'll be back to Google.

The guy posting 'rm -rf/' has probably a reputation of 1, and his answer would have been downvoted 5 times and probably deleted by a mod within minutes.
This just Apple trashing Windows 10 for having app-ish features. In two - three years Apple will do exactly what he is trashing now and pretend they invented the whole concept.

Well, I knew beforehand, but having to purchase another device (adapter) to connect to a wired network - that you have then to carry everywhere - is ridiculous. What on Earth does the "Pro" in Macbook Pro means??
Even thought it could take some more time to complete the charge from 49 to 100%, what's really great is when your smartphone is agonizing at 1~2%, you just need to plug it somewhere in a coffee shop, work,... to get to 50% charge in just 5 minutes, which is usually - depending on what phone you have - enough until the evening to then charge it fully.
