I think that very much entirely depends on what you consider "intrinsic value."
I think you have a faulty understanding of the word "intrinsic." Since enjoyment and satisfaction are immeasurable and differ from person to person, thus are imbued by the user, that's an "extrinsic" value. Intrinsic means that it has certain specific values at all times. That value may mean more or less to a specific person, just like a sandwich means more to a starving man than one who's just finished a large supper, but it still has the same specific value of nutrition and energy imparted.
Every attribute you ascribed to music is extrinsic. Doesn't make you incorrect about there being value, just what type it is.
Book publishers are next on the list of casualties, and once again, it's much their own fault. They are busy giving Amazon a monopoly on e-books,
Speaking as someone IN the book publishing industry, I can say you're wrong. It's not that publishers are doing it, it's that that is who 90% (okay, slight exaggeration, but the majority indeed) of eBook sales are coming from, so it's the customer's fault.
Further at issue is the fact that there's no standard format for the books. Four different services want four different formats. And it usually costs a fair bit to get a file converted if it wasn't designed with one format in mind during production. That means not every book is going to end up on every service. Nicely enough, some companies will scan your book in to the correct format, and then just hold 100% of the revenue until the charges are paid back. Oh, and they get anywhere from 6-18 months exclusivity.
No, I'd like a suspension pending conclusion of investigation, or assignment to roles that don't necessitate the person be going to individual's homes. Corporate call-outs, or line maintenance, something like that.
Except the menu item is in HELP. Under SUPPORT DIGSBY. And then it's in the middle, with nothing to make it stand out from the other options on there. They hid it as well as they fucking could have, and now that they're called on it, they're moving it again. To preferences. Only it'll still be on the "Support Digsby" tab. So most users who don't want to support digsby more than they are won't touch it.
Except it wasn't transparent until they got called on it. It's #15 in the TOS. The way to opt-out was to go to "Help" then click on "Support Digsby" then find it in the list of 12 or so options.
If this had been an "opt-in" via check-box, similar to the crapware with the installer, I wouldn't be searching for a new multi-client IM program now.
Except Pidgin fucking sucks dog balls. I tried using that. Used it for over a year. I thought it was NORMAL for a multi-chat client to crash a couple times a week. Tried digsby, no crashes, worked well.
Then I found out about the CPU bit, and I'll be uninstalling it when I return home. Maybe that Trillian Astra will be better than the old Trillian.
Possibly flamebait, I'd say. Though it's France, they look at things differently. It's possible the GGGP was referring to a specific incident that he considers censorship of free speech.
I was writing an essay on Google Book Search's library project, and it was due YESTERDAY. And today you drop this on me? You couldn't have dropped this yesterday? A little time travel? Just for me? Ugh.
If I'm spending that kind of cash, I wanna be able to drop it off a building and have it survive - after it's been run over by a tank. Otherwise, there's no point in using it on a regular basis as additional storage for something you're carrying around all the time.
An addict can and will switch to replacements when their drug of choice is unavailable. There's more MMOs than simply WoW. I'm betting it will take a while for the subscriber base to recover after this, since they'll all be hooked on something else.
Any tech company that sells to another tech company without at least a cursory look at what they make is deserving of bankruptcy. If they looked, they'd have noticed that it's a browser company. You'd think they'd have fired one up to at least *check* if there's any glaring issues to be pointed out. I'm sure if they'd said "Oh, by the way, using your browser there's X issue" they wouldn't have been immediately tossed to the side.
And considering the amount of expansion they just did (Opera link, Opera Unite, MyOpera, Opera Turbo, etc) it probably was a significant purchase. More, it likely would have been a continuing contract, as in Opera would continue to go back to that vendor, to maintain consistency when they needed more servers. So they didn't just throw away money now, they threw away future money as well.
It wasn't harmless, it was retarded. Further more, the value of oil isn't in burning it, it's in what you can make with it, e.g. plastic. Good luck finding replacements for that.
You're right about funeral expenses being the will of the market, though how anyone was ever convinced your loved ones will hate you if you're not planted in a $10,000 box baffles me.
As for the cemeteries not being on desirable land, I'd have to see surveyor's reports to say for sure, since there's some massive ones in my city right next to major roads. I can't imagine that someone wouldn't want to throw a couple businesses up next to a major thoroughfare.

I do NOW, so thanks for that.
domain giving it to your wife to see if she spits it out?
Last time I tried that in the bedroom she threatened to kill me.
It wasn't in the TOS when I started using it.
I was never told about it when it was added.
And it's 3 clicks, but under "help," and "support digsby." Not exactly intuitive to disable a "feature."
If by "a while back" you mean "this morning," then yes.
Except it wasn't IN the TOS when I started using Digsby.

Then there's Pidgin (multiplatform, free open source) which is also an excellent and mature IM which is also very extensible.
And crashes twice a week, thrice if the wind blows hard. What made me finally stop using it was the 4 crashes in one day.

Didn't they already do that?

Imagine a remake of Casablanca with new digital special effects.
It's called Barb Wire. http://www.thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/nostalgia-critic/9527-barbwire
Nope, out of print is not equivalent to ooc. Google will be offering those books for free, directly from their Google Book Search service, I believe.

*grumble grumble*
I have peanut butter, and I have oatmeal raisin. Pick.
This is just twisted enough to be awesome. We need some high-profile studies on this, STAT.

How's the guy who posted it look like a dick? I think it's funny. "We're going to sell equipment to the company we purposefully blocked."
