Attacking the victims of drug overdoses, sexual assaults, and reactionary mobs in order to protect them is just fucked up logic. The protestors could leave if they were worried about safety. What about the rest of us willingly under police protection in this crime-ridden country who have nowhere to go? Maybe every urban center can be cleared by our valiant police with neutron bombs. Better dead than red!
They were in a park. If jail is the punishment for that they might as well have occupied city hall or the stock exchange (of course the NYPD would deploy helicopter gunships if that happened).
Well I guess all the complaints from lawyers about falling salaries are exaggerated. But I suspect the average teacher's "prep time" complaints are also exaggerated, and a comparison of the pay per hour actually worked would end up a lot closer.
Using good tactics does not justify the action. When there is no space that it is legal to protest on--when even obstructing a park is declared a major threat to public safety--protesting has become illegal.
There is neither enough money nor talent to possibly do that. You could shift resources from other fields, but then you'd end up with a guy making 40k who has a BA in "science" operating on your brain. Fake unions have driven teaching salaries close to the average for lawyers in many places, but most of the money goes to the most senile of the same mediocre labor pool.
Some of these guys would come in to court pleading that they had no disposable income only to find our pictures of them at strip joints getting lap dances.
But that is evidence that they don't have money! Helping young women pay for college has to be more justifiable than supporting their exes' designer purse collection.
If they tried to dig proper latrines, incinerate waste, and punish criminals the shock troops would pounce. Protests always tend to look pitiful because all authority has been invested in government. Even those fighting that goofball Gaddafi came across themselves as clowns.
What really is obsolete is "law" when corporate entities can achieve their aims by using quasi-legal (i.e. illegal) means. They and their agents thus put all their property and lives outside the protection of society...

Having to type double the characters is a pretty huge degradation in usability. Google seems also to be getting increasingly suspicious of human input, which will require more and more coded notation to override...until the search box simply isn't there one day.
Electronic currency is more efficient, but it requires infrastructure at the point of transfer, and you have to pay a fee to 3rd-party company for each transaction. It may make it more difficult for people to perform certain transactions declared "illegal", but it also creates great possibilities for fraud.
A professor torturing professional performers is not really "nastier" than morons claiming to rape girls...though it may be better. Not surprising that government only shuts down the former site, since the moronic is more to its taste.
Those who don't make the university cut in Germany (as I understand it) receive government- and industry-supported vocational training equivalent in value. Of course in the US there aren't many productive jobs on any level, and the goal of the system is to shift all training costs onto the workforce, even if they are kids.
Kids don't have a clue about a lot of stuff. They have no idea about how hard it is to get a job or about the kind of salary they can expect. And most adults advising them are used to a job market that no longer exists or are just completely out of touch since they have always lived in the fantasy land of government employment.
