    I hate to say it, but in general you don't own the airspace above your house...

    There are exceptions, and "air rights" do exist.

    But rest assured, helicopters fly over houses at 500 feet above the ground all the time and they aren't trespassing.

    Read up on breeder reactors, you'll learn something...

    The reason they are illegal in the United States is because they produce plutonium, it is a political decision made in the 70s, has nothing to do with technology.

    Yea, like get over our stupidity and stop trying to store things for 10,000 years, which is absurd.

    How about we instead be ok to reprocess the waste and turn it into new fuel?

    Such technology exists, but our government has made it illegal out of fear of the spread of nuclear weapons.

    It all could be resolved with a little mutual respect and consideration. But again... that's not going to happen. We don't respect each other. A large number of Americans hold large numbers of Americans in contempt. And until we let each other live and let live... we will remain at war with ourselves.

    While I agree with you, most humans are neither sensible nor informed...

    This is the great flaw with democracy and allowing everyone to have a say. Most people have no idea what is going on and frankly don't really want a say, they just want to watch American Idol.

    Fair enough, but those tapes won't last forever and replacements will be of a similar age...

    At some point, you won't have a choice, digital is the wave of the future, like it or not...

    Depending on your age, you might be dead by then and not care of course. :)

    Fire, that is kinda nice, don't want to give that one up either...

    How about a toilet? Not nearly as old, but I kinda like that one too... and it sure is technology...

    How about electricity?

    And I kinda like my truck, wouldn't want to go back to walking... and I'm still waiting for my flying car... (and I'm a helicopter pilot so I know we won't be getting flying cars any time soon)

    The list is long and has little to do with floppy drives :)

    Frankly, if they secured the border and stopped drugs and illegals from crossing, I might well be ok with it.

    I live in Texas, and frankly it is so bad, I think we should deploy the Army on our southern border and use it against both groups.

    You can sue to nullify the binding arbitration clause... :)

    You can always file a suit... it comes down to the judge and what he/she wants to do, and of course what he/she thinks might get turned over on appeal.

    The legal system doesn't work the way most people think it does.

    Sadly, he who has the most money, often wins (unless both sides have lots)

    Will Handbrake take a MKV and turn it into a MP4 without recompressing the video?

    I just loaded one in and I can't find an option for that to save my life, but I'm open to suggestions.

    Doesn't Comcast have a "You're not allowed to file a class action suit against us. Hahahaha." clause in their contracts?

    Comcast having that in their contracts and it actually meaning anything to a court are two different things.

    Comcast has little reason to NOT put it in there, doesn't mean it would hold up.

    If you find a lawyer willing to file the case, it becomes the job of the Judge to decide if that clause means anything or not.

    Yea, this...

    The thing is, a few years ago I encoded a bunch of stuff in mkv format, only to discover that everyone and their dog supports mp4.

    My new truck will play files directly off a USB drive or a SD card, but only in MP4 format.

    I'm now having to reencode everything, grr...

    You can't abolish copyright... as much as some modern day hippies would like to...

    It exists for valid reasons... perhaps it lasts too long, I'd consider making it much shorter to be reasonable, perhaps 20 years...

    But abolish it outright? You really can't do that.

    This is so true... the comment "oh, you can't see the difference between 4k/1080p" is just as much nonsense as the one 10 years ago saying, "oh, you can't see the difference betwee 720p/1080p"

    It is people talking out of their rear ends mostly...

    Having seen them both in person, 4k blows away 1080p on the proper equipment.

    How does this not make sense?

    It makes sense because of the various government tax structures you have in place.

    Without them, it makes no sense at all.

    My electricity provider charges 10.9c per kWh, the cost to install such a system here is quite a bit higher than $2,500 (there were some nice tax breaks in there to make that happen).

    Here, that system has a retail price of about $7,500, not including installation.

    So given your specific situation, yes, it makes sense... but understand WHY it makes sense, and that it has nothing to do with solar...

    Apple does I'm sure... he is still a full time paid employee of Apple, receiving about $120K a year.

    He doesn't actually do anything there, he just gets paid... well, because... :)

    Woz likes to stand in line with everyone else and buy them because it makes him feel normal. He doesn't have Job's ego, and for that, I applaud him.

    :) Yea, but MS Office "IS" the standard format... Open Office is not.

    It is widely accepted that MS Office is "normal", so if you're not using it, well, the headache is on your end.

    Open Office is nice and if you just need a personal set of programs to do some work in, fine.

    If you have to then share those files with other people who use MS Office?

    Meh, you're just asking for trouble. No matter how hard they try, files created in Open Office, saved, opened in MS Office, edited, then resaved, then reopened in Open Office, way too often no longer look the same.

    If you're actually running a business and not just playing with software, those problems are not acceptable.

    Office 2003 came out nearly 12 years ago...

    It isn't coming back, let it go... it is well past the time to learn the Ribbon, since clearly that is staying at this point...

    I honestly don't care about the start menu as much as some people do.

    The stuff I run every day is pinned to my Windows 7 task bar.

    I have 3 copies of Windows 8, I run none of them. It sucks for so many other reasons than the start menu.

    Lets start off with... An OS called "Windows" can't run Metro apps in a window. Someone should be beaten with a stick for that one.

    I use 3 monitors, I often have 5-10 programs open at once. I have no interest in a tablet/phone interface on my computer, I just want a simple flat desktop with my programs on my task bar and that's it.

    If you take off the start menu, fine... what do I get in return? A full screen box fest? Meh, that isn't an improvement.

    The sales of Windows 8, the uptake of upgrades, and the rolling back of the full screen Metro interface would seem to indicate that many people agree with me.

    If it were wildly successful, they wouldn't be rolling it back.

    Actually, I don't have a problem with the idea of a consumption tax, such as a VAT or sales tax.

    Income tax? That is evil, that you would take a large percentage of someone's time and labor and hand it over to the state.

    So yes, many of us to believe the Income Tax is evil and morally wrong. If it was within our power, we'd do something about it.

    They should have gone to 60fps many years ago.

    He is talking about the fact that you can download, more or less, any video from YouTube using a third party web site...

    But those web sites don't always have access to every version of the video on YouTube and in this case, for sure don't have access to the 60fps versions...

    So he is watching the 60fps version on the web site and downloading the 30fps version and getting all confused...
