The folks at http://fieldlines.com/ have been doing this for years. The bigger problems are the sealing of the cells and the fact that since these are most likely rejects the cells might nog give their rated power.
The article summary is dead wrong in suggesting that this is somehow proof that solar cells could be produced cheaper, these cells have probably been hijacked on the way to the recycler.
'making' a solar panel in your garage does not start off with buying solar cells and hooking them up, it starts with sand.
Do not attribute to malice that which could be attributed to incompetence. If it would be malice I think by now someone would have spilled the beans.
What I don't get is why they didn't simply own up to it. The accumulated PR damage of this festering wound surely should by now be higher than just getting it over with. Of course that is fodder for the conspiracy guys: What are they covering up that is so big then ?
large metal case ? you must be referring to some bbc model that I'm not familiar with, I thought I had all of them! Especially the 'slots' bit is somewhat confusing, do you by chance mean the option rom sockets or do you mean the berg connectors at the bottom ?
The bbc micro sat in a yellow injection moulded plastic case.
It had no 'expansion slots', but it did have several connectors at the edge of the pcb that you could use for expansion (berg connectors).
These included:
- printer port - the 'tube', a bi-directional link for a second processor - the user port - the 1Mhz bus.
Internally there were a number of option rom sockets, which with some trickery could be used for a ram expansion (bank switched 16 k windows).
There were no 'slots' of any kind.
I'm not sure which computer you are referring to here but I have never seen a bbc model b encased in anything other than plastic unless it was done as a custom job.
I had one of those beasts, it was a british clone of the TRS-80 color computer.
6809, the 32k of ram was actually 64k and if you fiddled a bit with the memory controller you could copy the rom to ram and modify the code. Quite a nice little computer!
I wished someone would keep such a line of machines alive for kids today to learn how to code on. There is absolutely no way you're going to completely 'grok' that machine on your desktop, one of these small machines you actually stand a chance.
Because a 'cats whisker' or detector diode never was intended to be a led, it is simply a side effect and only then with a specific kind of crystal and circuitry. It's intended use was to rectify currents, not to produce light.
To label it 'a primitive led' is a bit over the top, if it would have said 'which can be used to create a primitive kind of led' would have been a lot more accurate.
I've played countless hours with them as a kid when building crystal radio sets, never once seen one light up.
The wording of the summary suggests with 'primitive kind of led' that that was its intended function, it was not. It was a 'primitive kind of diode', and with the right combination of crystal and current you can apparently make one light up.
the temptation is killing me... sorry...
"that's what she said..."
Deists and creationists have relatively little in common.
Science can only be done by following the scientific method, creationism is the opposite of that, it is dogma warmed over.
*whooosh*.

I think when you get modded -1 troll your IP should be revealed.
The reviewer clearly states his bias though:
"Good overview of the NSA post-9/11, but some of the author's biases get in the way"
Unless of course 'author' does not refer to the author of the review ;)

"Buy this movie or the dog gets it" ...
Comparing the bbc to the commodore is like comparing a very well made german car to a zastava.

more likely for the fjords...

Best school I ever had...
A conservative is a liberal with a teenage daughter :)
strawman much ?
Life does not begin at conception, it merely gets passed on. Life began long long long ago and is still being passed on today.
Some religious people would concur with your statement that wet dreams are a crime against humanity (and so is masturbation).
and after installation you should be able to selectively enable those bits and pieces that you actually want.
there is a blonde joke in there somewhere...
that would make you a non-anonymous coward :)
with a name like DaFallus I hope you don't expect me to take that serious ;)
well, you use 'ftp', the 'film transfer protocol' and then play it locally.
On behalf of the rocks please stop your insults.
It really will. Had that happen to me in Canada at a balmy -30 Celsius.
