    wow,

i remember seeing this in grade 13, which was 4 years ago. i remember seeing him get hit by trucks and thinking he was nuts.

but as this nutty guy continues, think of the implications: "Welcome to the zoo. Please do not get out of your suits. please be careful when petting the lions"

wow...with all the proprietary codecs out there, this is the kind of think we need. and does loki ever get a shitload of my goodwill :-)

now, if only we could get a gpl'd quicktime implementation...

Also, our friend the authordroid seems to be mistaking storing applications on a remote sever with storing data on a remote server. Is there really any problem with accessing an application via network that updates itself automagically and lets you save your data either on the server or locally?

Ummm....since the application is *running* off the server, your data will almost certainly be pushed back and forth between server and client. Therefore, its not quite as simple as saving locally or on the server (as you make it out to be). This means the server may peruse your documents for "keywords" and store a list on the server....and how would you ever find out about it?

no, too many security implications here.

    ummm...microsoft and open standards....RIGHT....

so, since there in an open standard for e-mail communication, microsoft would be more than willing to open up their api for hotmail so that other clients will also be able to send and recieve mail through it....right?

  5. Re:Will It Be Free Software? -- Code Crusader on Linux IDE from Cygnus · · Score: 1
Code Crusader and Code Medic are wonderful programs that integrate well. I really like them. Especially the front end to gdb

However, I'm really looking forward to the development of gIDE which will allow easy building of GTK apps.

I don't see why anyone would really want a commercial ide for "at home" projects. There's too many good ones out there already, and quite honestly...not many people need all the extra features the commercial ide's have to offer. The commercial products might be much more useful for commercial multi-concurrent-developer projects and the like.

Finally, the recording industry is getting what it deservers. This is the way I'd love to see things. Artists release their music via mp3's on the net. Then if you like 'em, go support them by going to concerts. I'd rather do that then buy cd's. now, if only i could afford to buy one of those rio's, the world would be a better place :-)

  7. controlling encryptions, supercomputers etc. on FBI Reports on Encryption · · Score: 1
The us gov't has been trying to control encryption, supercomputers etc, for a long time now....but in reality, its pretty much impossible.

If they create/enforce these kinds of rules, companies will simply move their hq's to other countries where such things are not illegal.

Until every country in the world decides on the same guidelines (which will never happen), these rules are simply useless. Maybe they should stick to finding ways to improve security for their nuclear labs.

  8. Re:Does this include anti-aliasing? on XFree86 Release Plans · · Score: 1
From my understanding, anti-aliasing would mean a substantial rewrite of many parts of the code, and would not be worthwhile. Plus, with a decent resolution, it really dosen't matter. There are even some people who claim that doing it makes it looks worse, not better.

I am using xfstt as a truetype font server. both it and xfsft have worked well for me. And really, I don't see the need for anti-aliasing....it looks fine to me. i am happy that they are including native true-type support though.

Can't wait till it's released. Thanks to everyone involved in this project :^)

  9. Quit being selfish! on Salon on why "Linux Needs Help" · · Score: 1
A well thoughout application communication would require something like gnome/kde compliance, and the apps that incorporate support for it. Which would mean, that only certain apps would be compliant to that standard...So it becomes hard to use a gnome app with a kde app

Here's what i don't like about GUI based versions of some apps. Look at the samba gui attempts...some of them use the direct output of the samba cli, and others incorporate large parts of the actual samba cli code. So, the people writing the gui ontop of the cli have to change their app for even minor changes, and the standalone gui becomes huge as the cli version becomes bigger....

..a well thoughtout method of interapplication communication...reduces the programmer overhead of having to write code to parse STDIN into a useable format and the execution overhead of doing the parsing

Again, this is going to be hard to achieve, unless everyone supports this standard...and even then, command line will always be fast....someone who has been using the gui for a long time might become very fast, but imo, it is easier to become more productive with the cli version, if you're willing to put the effort into it. cheers, ajit

  10. gui != linux on Salon on why "Linux Needs Help" · · Score: 1

I like Linux the way it is/was. I like that it wasn't easy to install. I like the 1000's of programs which can be piped together to do anything. I don't care about linux's world domination. An easy to use gui would be nice for some. I love some of the gnome/kde apps....but I *love* the command line. If newbies don't like it, use micros~1's stuff. Who cares if linux dosen't dominate the world? Maybe we should all keep worrying about the technical, hacking side of things, and forget about the whiners/media.
