Well, measuring CMB for the curvature of the Universe is a bit like trying to guess the shape of a really large body of water, while underwater, by measuring the vibrations caused by the fish swimming in that same water. Basically, not enough data to truly conclude. However, NASA to the rescue! We'll probably know for sure by 2034 ish http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L...
To me, it wasn't a threat (law enforcement thought the same), it's near finals week, and it's an "anonymous" post. Also 4.16 doesn't mean the same thing to everyone. 20-30 years from now, if anybody reads the same post, the feeling will be out of it, then you'll see why this arrest for subjective perception is dangerous. Lets hope it doesn't become a conviction, the pubic already assumes arrest means guilty.
The difference is, when people used to spy during peace time, we didn't have the Internet. Now anybody who records router logs knows your web traffic history, basically we've all become spies. Except spies of the past were politically motivated, they were to be feared if you thought differently than whomever they worked for. Today, the IT guy fixing your computer remotely has the same technology a spy used, but he's just sipping coffee and running updates. The culture is what screwed it all up, people trusted their computer with their most intimate thoughts, love letters, hate letters, all of which are now being judged by a what could be best described as a vengeful-it-guy. That does two things, either chills the person away from the Internet and recording, or forces them to put on a happy smile and agree with whatever these new spies are hunting. And now we learn, indeed just not using a computer doesn't exclude you from the wide net of hateful strangers with opinions that could change your life. So yes indeed it's concerning, perhaps we should all watch each other watching each other at the end, or maybe... a good idea could be, bring Snowden home, hang a few evildoers, and don't make this whole ISIS thing so... commercialized. We used to get into wars for moral reasons, now it's just like rooting for a football team. Or we can always take the path of least resistance and just continue to assume the public is a bunch of duck dynasty idiots who'll believe whatever they see on T.V., where's Ron Burgundy?
Those same laws of physics made us driven by our senses, most of which can be directed and/or sustained. It would be perfectly within the laws of physics when Earth burns, whether by drought, meteor(s), just plain old "eaten by a Sun turning red dwarf", or destroyed by our politicians seeking pennies falling from pockets of millionaires.
But don't worry we still could be surprised, once again all within the laws of physics. To quote Einstein, "God doesn't play with dice", he just watches us roll'em;)
Her take on the hearing: It âoewasnâ(TM)t really about the science at all,â but broader disagreements over environmental policy and the role of government.
Well, it was a meeting titled politically driven science and that's exactly what they did in there.
Indeed. Because we are too easily scared, and there is this false trend that 20/20 hindsight brought us which is believing if only we did enough, maybe we can stop evil. I think it's the same belief which makes us clap if we believe in fairies, or rather just as effective statistically. Instead what we have today is the fear, and that's all it is, the fear that even if you're an anonymous coward, better watch what you say, Santa Clause is in town. That's called a chilling effect, it unites some in fear, and silences others, and gives the illusion of security.
It may seem to you. I asked real students on campus, who had no idea what 4/16 was. Yet a student has lost their educational opportunities here, and likely life ruined.
Do not let fear overreach your reason. That's actually when the terrorists win so to say:) I personally asked a few students about it in a coffee shop, none of them had any clue as to what 4/16 was, they asked me if that's a new convenience store like 7/11. Which is my point in reference to 12/7, Pearl Harbor, an event which lead to the use of a nuclear bomb, and no longer means much to your average person. Lets not forget the educational life of a student is in ruins here now.
Was it fairly clear that the 12/7 post I made referred to Pearl Harbor http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A... a day which will live in infamy? How soon is too soon to get arrested for an anonymous post? What does that mean for free speech online, even when the local law enforcement really thought it to be a non credible threat.
This will be an issue as long as people are donating millions one way or the other. Politicians are happy to take your money any day, but the historical facts remain. Turkey cannot give land to Native Americans for being slaughtered a long time ago, just as they cannot give land to Armenians for the crimes of the Ottoman Empire. It was an empire, it had a Sultan, it was destroyed, in a desperate attempt they slaughtered a whole lot of Armenians for they were declared to be allied with Russia, therefore terrorists. Much like how war is today, it's hell, people go out to Afghanistan today with a similar mindset of "I'm gonna get me some Arabs". That's just the way of war unfortunately. Turkey is a democracy, a different country, and WAAAAAAAAAAAYY smaller than what the Ottoman Empire was. Just because the majority race is Turks (not by much either, there is a significant portion of Kurds and Laz and many more living in Turkey), there should be no racial obligation to apologize.
Sure, put snakes on the road. Mess with the horse shoe. Point being, someone will need physical access. They cannot possess the mind of a horse with black magic from a distance;)
...When I'm with a girl, I'll wish I was watching pornography...
I think you should have learned something by now.

Nah, just us. http://i.imgur.com/TtcWPII.jpg
Anybody still remember when we used to make fun of China's "human rights" and their Great Firewall of China? Wasn't that nice? It was nice.
I don't want an OS I can't have root on.
This is a lot like the drawing talent myth. Everybody starts with lines, stick figures, and a fews years later paintings.

Human listening was clearly not going to be the solution. âoeThere werenâ(TM)t enough ears,â he said.
That's kind of what made the average Joe feel safe. He thought, they can't possibly listen to everyone, and there's nothing interesting about me.

As long as we don't have "Politically Driven Surgery"...
Doctor: Scalpel...
Politician: Just use your hand, we need to be under budget this quarter.

Yes indeed. I don't think any person in their right minds believed this anonymous coward to be anything but credible.
Well then, I sincerely hope I don't get arrested for writing, there will be a 12/7 soon. Our forefathers would be proud.
Yes. I attend Virginia Tech, I asked real students who had no idea what 4/16 was or means.
Somebody mod this guy up lol

clearly a threat
How clear was 12/7? I'm assuming 9/11 will never mean emergency services for you, what about 7/11?

I was wrong, no hope for humanity.
I smell hope :)
