What's to stop the individuals that make up a company from forming another one? Even if the government did track which individuals had been involved in an illegal company, it would be impossible to enforce, for the most part.

I'm not sure if anybody has latched on to this one, but how about a new home video game system: one that's more powerful than the xbox or gamecube, can do higher resolution screens, and even emulate old systems. It would have multiple drives and an internal hard drive to store saved games and other things, would work on the Internet, and have a nearly infinite amount of controllers. You could get it with its own special monitor and speakers, and run third-party programs on it!
Wait... I'm using one right now. So much for innovation.

Are they going for the high-end users or what? With 19" CRT monitors at $200, LCDs are looking more expensive all the time. Sure, they're more reliable, easier to look at, and smaller, but you can't get a 15" one for $200, let alone a 19". I'll run X at 1600x1200 for now, thank you.

Edison was successful because Tesla didn't want a patent, from what I've heard. Edison was a big fan of DC, while Tesla liked AC better. Edison was an early user of FUD, with demonstrations showing AC killing elephants (I'm pretty sure I'm not making this up), while Tesla stuck to his guns of technical superiority. I've noticed that almost nobody has DC running into their house anymore, at least in North America...

Notes is at least designed for work-related stuff, and it's got less of a virus problem than Lookout. However, AOL is too childishly simple to do anything that doesn't involve granny sending pictures of her cat w/ her brand new 320x240 digital camera.

It loaded in mozilla and the other browsers I tried, so obviously M$ did something wrong and made a browser that couldn't read a page every other browser could.

Get the sources from ftp.gnu.org, untar/gzip them, change to the directory, then type 'make'.
Nowadays, I always kick myself whenever I use my Win98 startup disk to install Linux on my old non-boot-off-cd computer by using the boot.bat file, because I alway type bo(tab)(insert expletive)(backspace multiple time)ot.bat at the prompt expecting command line completion... droool..... Thank god for cygwin.

IIRC, the public school system is a dismal failure: after decades with it, it has degenerated into a system where students are taught how to pass standardized tests, and that alone. Privatization is king.
