There was a problem when it first came out. You need to uncomment a line in the/etc/inittab file. Unfortunately I don't remember which line it was off the top of my head.
mandrake has a listserv and newsgroup (alt.os.linux-mandrake i think). These places are stocked with people who will answer any question about mandrake that you have. i've gotten help from everything from quake3 to setting up a domain with bind
There are many little differences, like the penguin on the login prompt:) I find that mandrake is a little more "polished" than redhat. they force you to creat a non-priveledged user during setup, something i'm usually too lazy to do on my own.
I also believe that mandrake is now compiled with pentium optimizations, which is supposed to give a speed increase.
I've used both 6.0s, and personally i like mandrake better. I cant wait to get my iso image and check it out:)))
But they failed to mention whether it was possible to compromise windows security by replacing the backup key with your own. On the other hand, this is the first document I've ever seen from MS that doesn't contain snippets of propaganda everywhere.
When I was in high school I was a nerd and a jock. I was the only football player in AP Calc. I would crack skulls in the classroom and integrate by parts on the field.
The RIAA wants to target the 15-30 year olds. They are the most active buyers, and they are the ones who illegally obtain music. This digital security crap is not needed for the mainstream public. It's needed for punks like me who don't feel bad about ripping off a huge company that robs artists blind. The RIAA has stolen more from musicians than all the MP3philes ever will.
It seems like the RIAA had intended to create software that would "trap" or not allow the download of "illegal" mp3s. I'm not sure how they plan to implement this software, but its gonna be hairy. Do they plan to have it automagically install with certain common multimedia packages? The only thing I'm sure of is that if this software were to be installed on my computer without my knowledge/consent, there's going to be a lawsuit coming there way for tresspassing.
On top of that, when are they going to realize that no matter what they try, SDMI is a failure, and has been from the start? The public has clearly choosen the music format to lead us to the next level of audio online, and the RIAA has flaty choosen to ignore it.
Tekram has a decent dual board thats about $170, and claims to work up to dual 700mhz p3's. its also got an award bios which i like very much. I don't remember the product code, but its their only dual board.
So we get $5 off a CD for each piece of spam we send them? So could I send in 4 emails and get a free CD? Or is it only $5 off per CD? Either way I think it's a damn good deal.
Also, did anybody notice the link to the Internet Underground on the bottom of the page? Yeah, an underground run by msnbc......I imagine it must be real cutting edge.
So what If the site is heavily biased towards Linux? Every site has biases. Do you see us complaining about the slanted "Microsoft Daily News" articles appearing on Microsoft's site? No, we've got better things to do. I suggest you get a hobby.
And as for Rob's commentary on most of the stories, now what is that really hurting? Its basically just a short editorial. Considering that this is his site, I think he's certainly entitled to do what he wants. He's under no obligation to serve our every need.
I found this on their web site. Take This as you like:
Q:Does Yepp play MP3 songs that are illegally available over the Internet?
A: The Yepp currently has no method to detect whether an MP3 file was downloaded from a legal or illegal web site, just as a paper copier machine is not able to differentiate between text that is being copied with or without the consent of its copyright owners. Through its SecuMAX(TM) technology, Samsung is forging ahead with ways to help protect copyrighted music and it will also participate in RIAA's SDMI initiative to identify a solution to this problem.
Q: How much will Yepp cost?
A: Pricing has not yet been determined, but it can be expected that pricing will not be far from the $199 retail price mark.
Hmmm. Rebuild the kernel to use every memory-hogging feature you can find. Reboot every couple of days whether you need to or not. And every 18 months or so, send a check for $99 to Bill Gates. That should do the trick.
I think your missing a very important factor that is vital to the success and life of Linux.
It doesn't matter what Microsoft attempts to do to Linux. Linux is not just some corporate entity, burdened with the rules enforced by some CIO. Linux has existed for years without any corporate recognition or support. Although Linux does have support now, it could be taken away and Linux would still live.
Linux doesn't play by Microsoft's rules, and it never has. Let MS bring out the full guns, they can't destroy Linux:)

I'm completely torn now, do I go with Mandrake 6.1, or Caldera? Anyone have any suggestions?

HAHA i lied there is text. anyway. i find balance in my life. i get into the office quite early, and leave promptly at 5 ever day.
Great, they can't even create a site that works with Navigator 4.0
When I was in high school I was a nerd and a jock. I was the only football player in AP Calc. I would crack skulls in the classroom and integrate by parts on the field.
Bah.
...cause we already know every important site out there! You must be a hacker-in-training.
If you go to #dwc on effnet, you'll see that the scanner is in Vancouver, Canada. Cell phone scanners are not illegal there.
So when will this headline become standard? I think having a computer with a powerful large bit crypto chip could be convienent.
Well, as long as I can rent a T1 and get Linux for free, there will be at least one ISP keeping it real ;)

Is there something in my eye, or did I actually read that?
If you check out his server, you see they're running Apache/Php. Thats good enough for me. He's got my vote (I'm republican anyway).

Funny, When I check to see what the OS is, I get:
Server: Apache/1.3.1 (Unix) FrontPage/3.0.4.2
The new wave of games for Linux will bring with it the next wave of Linux users. It's the next logical step to claim the desktop and then the world :)

This whole situation is good news for the Linux community. Microsoft is forced to respond to what WE are doing. They're running scared.
7. How Can I Make Linux More Like Windows?
:)
