Who took down numerous big name websites, was sentenced to eight months of "open custody," one year of probation, restricted use of the Internet, and a small fine.
Lets face it, you can't properly gauge the sentence with the crime - too many other factors come into play that the judges are supposed to try and account for. Intent, remorse, etc etc - all play factors.
You mention all those things like they are terribly bad, Patents are a good idea but just terribly implemented. We're a lemming on things like that because they generally don't affect us. And when they do, (like Copyright issues) we just work our way around it (Blank CD Tax). DMCA and ACTA? Let them come. The people will complain, we actually still hold some influence over the government. If they don't take it away, they'll at least make some kind of legal loophole for the people to exploit. Or they'll get voted out, and the next government will.
As a side note I went to San Fran this February and I did not have to go through a Body Scanner, it wasn't even an option, and the "Pat Down" I recieved was less than that at a local bar, he basically went to my knees and stopped. I'll be going to Washington in a few weeks and I also don't expect any issues.
Really Canada is pretty laid back when it comes to things like this, even if we've technically implemented them. The law may be stringent but the enforcement is lax.
I think it's better than the US method - those who buy blank CD's only have to put in pennies more and support Canadian Artists and you don't get people's Lives ruined due to crazy lawsuits.
Call it crazy - but it keeps musicians happy, keeps the people happy, and isn't a giant FU to the States.
Then if I didn't like that download I could call it a Mulligan, and if the ISP tells me I've got a Bogey all I have to do is get a Birdie next month and I'll make Par.
The tablets are powered by Nvidia Tegra 2 CPU which gives it the edge when it comes to graphics
Sure, it might have "The Edge" - but that doesn't mean its always a good thing.
No, I'm not a fan of Apple, I don't own any of their products (though I'm forced to support a few Macs at work).
But when Epic showed their Unreal Engine working on an iPhone - well - thats when I realized that they hit a target that will appeal to most people. I imagine getting it to run was probably more ingenuity on Epic's part and not so much Apple Engineers - but regardless, developers wanting to make rich 3D Applications can now license and leverage that technology on the App Store. Now - the costs for developing and the chances your app gets rejected are all reasons not to develop for the iDevices but thats an entirely different discussion; Strictly hardware speaking, if you get it to run on an iPad you can then feel comfortable it'll run on a new Acer Tablet.
So - I aim my app to work on a slightly lower end device knowing I won't be pushing any limits when I want to port it to the other popular options. As opposed to making an App to run on the Acer Tablet but then finding it a bit slow on an iPad - that's not what I, as a developer, want. I don't want exclusives, that means I'm shunning a portion of my audience.
Actually, even lazier than that. I just made the C drive a shared folder called "Backup Stock Market PC" - and then tell them that the backup is located on our server, at IP address 127.0.0.1.
I got a phone call yesterday. From my Dad. Computer Virus. Fourth one this year.
Now, I use windows at work and I tend to use it at home. I don't have to do any regular maintenance on it at all. I save maybe 3 seconds in boot time compared to my Ubuntu box.
I'd say its more or less the time I spend maintaining OTHER PEOPLES systems makes me want THEM to use Linux more than anything else.
I moved into a new place just at the end of August here. I was with Telus for my internet service before - and my room mate works at Shaw, the other big ISP in our city, and he was always going on about how it was so much better and faster and he never had lag playing Halo and what not. So I called them up. Got to the machine, navigated to wanting a new setup, please hold for an agent. On hold for 20 minutes, hang up.
The next day at work, I decide to try again, except this time I called Telus at the same time, to see who could get me to a human being capable of processing my request faster. I got to Telus within a few minutes, still on hold with Shaw, which was on my desk phone so I just put them on speaker phone so I could hear if someone picked up while listening to hold music while chatting with Telus.
About half way through my Telus call the Shaw service says that they are experiencing higher than normal call volume and if I want, I can opt to put my number in a que and they'll try calling me back later. Sounds good! Did that. They called me back Three weeks ago. That was two months my number was in wait without getting a response. Anyways, enough about Shaw.
So in researching both companies I decided that the Optik TV and internet service was a good bundle for its price. So I say thats what I want. They say its not available in my area. I ask why not, don't get a straight answer. I get the next best thing. Anyways - so I go online, there's the "Check Availability" for Optik TV button, must have missed it before. So I go to try it out. It asks me to enter my address. I do. It says, "Choose the correct street" where it populates a bunch of choices for street names similar to the one I entered. Puts it in the format they like, so I choose my street. I click continue, it asks me again. No matter how many times I try selecting any house on my street it won't go to the next page and tell me the availability, it won't accept the street name.
We're actually dealing with a bit of backlash from having this policy - on both sides of the issue at the same time!
I'll try to be as vague as possible to cover my butt - but basically someone who deals with Clients for their job was going to be let go. We wiped their phone, as standard policy. Not sure if they copied the data prior to leaving or if another employee helped them out, but they basically took contact information, pricing/quotes, certain client rates, etc etc and took that to help land another job with a competitor.
Being in IT I know that it's going on as basically our "employee lifecycle" has come under review - but I'm not exactly on the legal team so I don't know how exactly it's progressing. But I know basically we pressed charges for selling trade secrets, and they are counter-suing for something along the lines of destruction of personal property for wiping EVERYTHING off of their phone.
I am not aware of any actual "Agreement" to phone wipes besides possibly verbal ones between managers and their employees and/or IT - there isn't a lot of documentation on the subject matter anywhere - however since starting any time anyone has asked "Can you get my email sync'd on my phone?" My common response is "Yes, but you will be handing over control of ALL The phones data to the company so we can wipe it should you be terminated or leave the company, which includes all your personal phone numbers and appointments". I say it not only to actually warn people of the danger - but its actually a great deterrent and a lot of people reconsider and don't want it anymore, less work for me!
No seriously - Dell Technical support will walk you through the most bizarre troubleshooting tips - and on the odd time it works.
One time we had a desktop that was bluescreening right after post - and would bluescreen if we tried to re-install Windows. It would bluescreen if we tried to get into the windows repair console.
After calling Dell, they simply made me go into the Bios, switch it off AHCI to Serial ATA, reboot, go back into the bios, switch it back to AHCI, reboot, and it worked perfectly again, no reinstall needed, no chkdsk even.
I remember he explained it very very quickly using a lot of hard drive jargon that I'm not familiar with - and I was so flabbergasted that it just went completely over my head anyways.
Well you are both right. Married Men and women don't get laid on thanksgiving, if ever at all. Maybe twice a year, or three if you spend money on Valentines.
However, all the teenage and young adults will spend thanksgiving with their families and invite their significant other over for dinner.
After meeting the family - there is usually some break up sex.
The only thing close to not being a DSLR and having the kind of zoom aspect we're talking about is something in the superzoom SX series from Canon (or similar models from other vendors) and those might just look close enough to a DSLR to get confiscated.
An ironic twist I think... I know many people whose DSLR pictures totally suck because the camera is beyond their ability to master even simple photographs. Also, ironically, anyone who would want useful information from digital pictures can readily shoot quality pictures with non-DSLR digital cameras. Is this for real?
I think the idea is to cut back on some form of spying. Lets face it, if you are a journalist, you want REALLY good pictures for your articles, like national Geographic quality if possible. Thats why they're allowed DSLR's.
But if I'm a spy, and I see a hand off going on between some military personel and some 'civilian' - I'll be all dressed up as a tourist with my nice HUUUUUGE Telephoto lens, snap a few quick shots. If someone gets suspicious you either delete the pictures if you don't have much time or if you think you can without noticing, switch out the memory card.

Corn is probably the biggest example of bullshit monopolies in action ever. Monsanto has all the corn. All of it.
That's odd. My grandparents grow corn. How does Monsanto have that corn?
Does THAT matter?

I wish that it was more like Golf.
Then if I didn't like that download I could call it a Mulligan, and if the ISP tells me I've got a Bogey all I have to do is get a Birdie next month and I'll make Par.
Then the Legalese can get extra convoluted.
That won't work. It's got concentrated acid for blood. A good defense mechanism, you don't dare kill it.
So what happens when they want to install new software - I get a phone call?
I think that would amount for more than 4 phone calls a year.

When they won the superbowl. Despite their disadvantage of being submerged.
And, perhaps I'm missing something, but why exactly was he embarrassed?
Are you saying if you were out rafting and became stranded on an island you wouldn't be a little bit embarassed?

Seems a bit strange now that I reflect on it.
I hear Acrobat 1.0 is also going for 5+ figures.
It is kind of annoying how these things work.

Frustrating.
Whats the difference between could storage and traditional storage? Buzzwords, and possibly their synergy.
Who cares about buzzwords? The only thing I care about is...is it green?!
Yes actually, it's on SUSE!
We're actually dealing with a bit of backlash from having this policy - on both sides of the issue at the same time!

But if we do that too much it will steal all the wind from the windmills!
Just like back in the day sitting in the non-smoking section of the bar meant you never got any second hand smoke, ever.
Modded funny but should be informative.

Like the GP said, conditioning.
How will they successfully audit them?
And how much zoom do you get with that?

Yes but you cannot delete those pictures if someone asks you for them.
Forgot to mention: the point being that you can't get that kind of zoom level with a regular digital camera, in case I didn't make that point obvious.
An ironic twist I think... I know many people whose DSLR pictures totally suck because the camera is beyond their ability to master even simple photographs.
