Murder would still be illegal Mr.. Just because you impose a "one child per family" limit does not mean parents would be allowed to go throwing unwanted babies in dumpsters.
Really? Because that's practically what happens. Higher than normal rates of Neglect, Abandonment, and infanticide have occured in China simply because of the 1CPF laws.
That alone would solve our pollution problem, and yes it would be humane (no need to kill anybody).
Just because no one is being killed doesn't mean it's humane.
It's been said that in China that fines, pressures to abort a pregnancy, and even forced sterilization accompanied second or subsequent pregnancies. And that's just the law enforcing it - there have also been reports of infanticide, neglect, and abandonment because of it.
Just because the law itself in theory is humane, doesn't mean it is humane in its application, or the decisions one must make to try and comply with it.
There are those who are of the opinion that these leaks are costing lives of both Western and Middle Eastern Soldiers AND Citizens - and thus releasing this information to the public essentially gives it to our enemies who then use it against us. That these leaks are causing more deaths than necessary. Opposing that some people view that essentially partaking in this conflict, by either signing up with the army or aiding with it's intelligence you've already forfeited your right to reasonable safety. The idea being they could have stopped being an informant at any point and moved far far away - so being an informant is similar to volunteering to be a soldier.
There are those who are of the opinion that the public needs to be made aware of what our military and government are doing. That indecent acts against humanity are not justified by the goal of national security. Those who think that by exposing what is going on during the wars might bring them to an end sooner, similar to the Vietnam war. There are those who think that the safety of themselves and their family are best left up to the military, and that there are some necessary evils. They might believe that those under harm from our military are rightly deserved so based upon their previous acts of violence or terrorism.
So - evaluate it how you will, theres a reason why this contraversial issue is contraversial. Make up your own mind about it.
It essentially boils down to whether you believe in the War on Terror or not.
While that would work on the average Crypto Nerd - I think you underestimate the die-harded-ness of Linux users who would fight to the death to defend the freedom of Open Source. Why do you think Stallman sleeps with swords?
That's actually not a bad idea. I wonder how complex your algorithms would have to be to determine if the sounds produced are of gunshots or female moans.
Too many times I've either gone from an FPS to a naughty website or vice versa and either the volume was left down or too high and either I can't hear the game or some horny girl can be heard all throughout the house.
What I need is a dedicated card that can handle all that for me - anytime I try to set up different volume controls per application in Windows, it never sticks.
Years ago, I got Ghost Recon for Christmas. I had all the minimum specs of the game - and most of the recommended - but one thing never mentioned was a sound card. Now, for normal singleplayer gameplay there was almost never an issue. However, when playing online, where there could be anywhere from 16 to 32 sounds going at once, my game would slow to a screeching hault for the length of the gunfight - essentially making me useless online. I couldn't even play the support class because a full auto-machine gun tended to slow things down a bit, so I never went anything but the sniper and would always run to the flanks to try and avoid my game from hearing any sounds besides my own shots. Had to disable music and some ambient effects just to get that going.
Since then, now that I'm older and I can afford things on my own - I've never gotten a computer for gaming without a soundcard. I never want to be in that situation again, and I figure dedicated hardware was the way to go (like a good Graphics card helps with the display of things obviously, so I naturally assume a sound-card provides the same assistance with audio).
Now - whether that's still the case, could I go and grab the latest game, meet minimum specs, and have audio cause lag? I don't know. If so, I think soundcards are still necessary. Especially for the EAX effects and such.
Well if you're looking along the coast like they probably were in England, you have a chance of finding something of value. You may not find something 500 years old, but perhaps 300 or so from when the first settlers came across.
Canada got kind of lucky in that there are actual Viking remnants along our Eastern Coast. I think that's impressive. It also suggests something odd that they never made the return trip, otherwise you think the Western world might have known about the Americas if the Scandinavians already knew about it. (So Christopher Columbus might have known something was there). To put it in a historical perspective - L'Anse Aux Meadows (which is the only entirely confirmed Norse Settlement in Canada) - is expected to have been settled around 1003 AD. That's 63 years before the battle of Hastings - which is considered by many to be the most influential battle in the history of England. To think - one of the reasons the Anglo-Saxons lost the Battle of Hastings was because just weeks prior they were fighting the Vikings at the Battle of Fulford. Were they aware of the New World at that point? Would they have bothered trying to Conquer England if they had known they could have settled this entire continent? Seems like one of those focal hinging points in history to me.
I think I got a bit off track there - anyways, there should be plenty of shipwrecks along the coast to find things. You might be able to find some stuff from the WW2 era - I hear a bit of sea battles actually took place along the US Coast.
Which is a tragedy - because I have tried that and its no where near as good as the old space combat lucasarts titles, even the single player ones like Rogue Squadron.
Given that Lucasfilm and Lucasarts are all pretty much under the same roof - it wouldn't be hard to change that fact if they wanted to launch a new game. The reason they didn't was that they wanted people to subscribe to SWG.
Problem is - SWG has started to bomb. Almost everyone I know who plays it is of the opinion that it was way better before "it changed". Now its apparently trivial to get almost everything, so you can experience a wider variety of the game but it takes almost no effort.
I thought this was why they commissioned Bioware for a new MMO - SWG is dying, slowly but surely. I think they want to kill that beast and start over fresh, but don't want to offend the people still playing it.
I imagine once this new game is out - if the SWG numbers drop significantly enough we'll see something happen with that regard.
Wasn't there some project to revamp the Descent games with better graphics? I thought that you could get a Descent package (like 1 2 and 3) from GoG.com and then download this open source project that puts things on OpenGL?
Well the thing about XvT is there's plenty missions with Xwing vs Tie and Balance of Power to keep you busy - AND there's a map editor which allows you to create your own missions (albeit this was not packaged in the game, it was a seperate download).
Essentially the ONLY thing they need to update is the Graphics Engine and the Network code - and that game would be an instant hit. If they wanted to, have an expansion pack with the new episodes crafts and missions.
I have sent a letter and email to this effect to Lucasarts before - but got no response. They don't seem to want to revisit their old titles - or when they do it's actually worse than before because they altered the main mechanics. For example, they mention Jedi Knight. I enjoyed that Series from the original Dark Forces all the way through the Jedi Academy. Though the story in JA was a bit weak compared to its predecessors it's gameplay was basically a more balanced and exciting version of Jedi Outcast. However that whole series has been put aside since Force Unleashed was in development. Rebellion was replaced by Empire at War. It kind of sickens me - as both of these games had great potential if they had just kept the existing mechanics and added onto it.
I know folks think it's 'overkill' to have 64-bit CPUs in portable devices
I don't think of it that way - I think of it as laying foundations for the future. I would much rather be prepared for when 64bit CPUs in mobile devices is a necessity instead of trying to play catchup when it does. We have the technology, so why not? Like the whole limitted IPv4 Address Space - wouldn't it have been sweet if we switched to IPv6 BEFORE it became an issue?
Do they send out Nobel Prizes by mail? I know its the best idea ever, but I'm a little busy arguing on the internet so I won't have time to pick it up myself.
I find it humorous that a story about bacteria has lead to a ridiculously long discussion about the meaning of Ubiquitous and a philosophical discussion on the amount of life vs the amount of Death.
While like you said, its really just semantics and perception. Michael's point of view is that if you were to add up the years something was dead compared to the years something was alive, and did that for every entity in the universe, you'd have more dead years than live years. Ergo, Death is prevalent.
While other people (myself included) are of the opinion that death is just an occurence, and only happens in that one instance, and being dead for 10 years is not any more "death" than being dead for 10 minutes. Ergo, there would be less death than there is life (since living things can only die once and there is still life).
But no one felt like neatly laying out their definitions, instead just kept feeding troll line after flamebait and now look where we are. We're arguing on the internet. You know where that path leads, and you know exactly where it ends.

Definately a Few Atlantic 'Covert' operations listed there.

Why can't I find the right way to put their insensitivities?
I don't like the idea of wirelessly controlled nerves.
Remote code injection - scary.
In the same way that a spoon is not a fork* but one definately brought about the other - there is likely an overlap in patents.

Okay who paid you to say that?
You go find a Publisher who does Tech Books, tell them you'll write a glowing 9/10 review on Slashdot for some kickback.
