The Taliban is a terrorist group over there just like the KKK are over here - the only difference is that they've leveraged their violent acts to gain political power.
It's not like everyone over there is a terrorist, nor is every terrorist a taliban. A lot of the people fighting over there are just fighting to try and get the Americans out, and doesn't have a lot to do with Islam.
point is is there a line where one side in a war is so evil that it is plain wrong to be able to play as that side in a game?
Not in my opinion. Like they said, cops and robbers is a prime example. Someone has to be a robber, despite theft being against the basis of laws in just about any society today, and is a core rule of many religions.
I know you can play as Germans in many WWII games but that was a long time ago while this war is still going on.
So? Many WW2 vets lost a lot of friends in that war - And many people had fathers who went off to war and died. So where is the outcry from them?
But okay, I'll humour you: Why does it make a difference if it is "Terrorists" or "Taliban"? I mean Call of Duty Modern Warfare had Russian Terrorists - does that make ALL the difference?
By the way if you mean to equate the water boarding of a few terrorists in order to get information with what Taliban did to the people of Afghanistan then you have a lot of reading to do.
And if water boarding is no big deal to you, why don't you try it out, you know, voluntarily, cause its nothing to a strapping guy like you. And if you think water boarding is the only torture thats been going on or that it's only been a few terrorists, boy do YOU have a lot of reading to do.
Honestly, just go watch the Collateral murder video on Wikileaks again, because thats the hot topic right now. Now tell me that the military has been open and honest about everything it's done, and every bit of its actions are for the sole protection of the people of the United States.
I have some perspective. Plenty of it. Would you like some?
No, we don't stone teenage girls to death, we put them down for how they are fat or ugly to the point where their self esteem gets so low that they commit suicide.
We don't beat people for listening to certain kinds of music. Even if some are criminals, we just assume All their fans are gang members.
And of course the Americans have shown their importance of preserving monuments such as all the ones in Hiroshima.
I mean you can't just say "But they are bad" and act like everything our society does is all high and mighty. Perhaps if you asked them why they are fighting you'd understand a bit more. Not all of them are shooting American troops because their God said so. Some of them dislike the embedded materialistic society we've created and want to stop the greed from spreading out of America. Most of them see this as an invasion, and they are fighting back.
Torturing people to find out information to protect the soldiers you put there in the first place sure does seem to balance out nicely. Tell me, how does being in the middle east stop people from taking over American Jets? Couldn't those soldiers be manning the airports over here? Maybe then I wouldn't need a full body scanner to take a picture of my junk, instead I'd get someone who is a professional with weapons and demolitions to identify if I'm armed or not.
That does not explain why the game should be banned/censored, which, if i remember correctly, is the point of this discussion.
I don't think you remember correctly. None of the articles have mentioned the word "Ban" or "Censor" anywhere, and I haven't watched the video but I don't think the Mother did either.
In essence this is just a mother expressing her negative opinion towards games about modern warfare. I don't think anyone has taken any actions to try and get it to actually change though. It's not like EA is going to do a recall or anything.
For the longest time I couldn't understand why anyone would troll the Slashdot news articles. It's relatively easy to get positive mods on your comments if you can post something half intelligent in the first few minutes of an article going up, as long as you write in a clear and concise manner.
Except today I realized something; No one upmodded my comments, so there weren't as many responses to my comments. There weren't as many responses so I didn't visit slashdot as much. I didn't visit slashdot as much and I actually got some coding done today.
It all makes perfect sense to me now. By having a lower karma on/., I'd be a better employee. I'm surprised it took me so long to see it.
Unreal rules the roost right now. There's no publisher lock-in, there are hundreds of games to prove it's viability, the dev support is all online, easily referenced, and complete, and the widespread use of it means that it is easy to find programmers, designers, and artists that have experience on the toolset.
This is true. I've actually seen the jobs posting whenever Valve, Blizzard, Ubisoft, or other large publishers are looking for level designers - I've heard them all mention that extensive experience either working with Hammer or Unreal are your best bets, because those tools and engines are widespread enough that even if they don't use Unreal for their game, they know Unreal's capabilities so its easier to weed through who is good and who is bad with level design.
I didn't exactly notice a whole lot of secret info regarding troop locations or transportation in the original Collateral Murder video - which is what started the whole Wikileaks vs US Government situation in the first place.
If perhaps they had redacted the documents like Assange had asked, if perhaps they hadn't tried to brush it ALL under the rug, if perhaps they haven't tried to make life difficult for Assange, and had instead acted a little more diplomatic about the issue, he probably wouldn't be releasing these full documents.
So can you REALLY blame the guy for lashing back this way when he is being treated like an enemy?
Indeed, one might even go as far as to say F@H started the E@H project - being that F@H started about 5 years prior - so if F@H wasn't successful at all in 5 years, its unlikely that E@H would have even taken off.
I see your point, and it is an excellent one. However, I think I would have prefered it being some kind of bug that suggests the page you are being redirected to when failing to login goes to a default page which then loads certain contols (like other facebook pages), and that it naturally shows the info when you are logged in. As opposed to a logical error that someone thought this would be a good idea and didn't consider the consequences of privacy involved with it. Not that I'm surprised with the current administration of the site or anything - nor that my preference of privacy issues being technical errors over design flaws makes any difference whatsoever.
It is a bad habit I have. I'll write a sentence, then I'll read it over, and decide to change the structure entirely, then re-read it a bit to make sure it makes sense, then put it up there without looking too much at grammar.
So if I had said something like "The photo's location" but then decided the location part is irrelevant and I could just work it around to just say "the photos" then I do so, but its all cut copy paste delete so the apostrophe reamins in place. Makes errors and I apologize.
I also tend to form a lot of run on sentences or use too many commas, like that first sentence up there. I left it as is so you can see my general though pattern. Normally I would go back and work my sentences into something with a little more sensible flow and pace. I have found that I abuse a hyphen quite frequently - as if putting it there makes it seem like a quick pause without needing to use a comma, which is terrible I know.
It's not like Assange made it a warzone. If Assange's efforts can end the war sooner rather than later, he might end up saving more lives than he has endangered.
Yeah, the article quotes some pretty funny statements.
Sejnowski says he agrees with Kurzweil's assessment that about a million lines of code may be enough to simulate the human brain.
You know, the program they had set up in Jurassic Park supposedly had MILLIONS of lines of code, and look how well THAT turned out.

How long have you had it? I mean I got mine not too long ago and I'm all the way up to 1921681100! Clearly its growing exponentially.

We don't bury homosexuals, we just kill them

No, but you can't torture people in Gitmo either so in the end you just have to accept that you can't do everything both sides do.
I believe the hotkey is "N"

While I'm not for the police state, I do believe that those convicted of a crime need to have their mugshots put up
Thanks for coming out, but thats not the issue we're talking about. Arrest and conviction are two seperate things.

What privacy rights do you have if you get arrested?
I suppose thats depends on what you get arrested for, but I would assume in most cases - all of them?
I also wonder how these kids cope when a second variable is introduced.

Or inversely, since when did being right make anyone MORE American? (;
Woah, you linked more than ONE source on a single topic! I've been waiting for someone to do that for a long time!
Strongly worded public letters deter most bots.
It's not like Assange made it a warzone. If Assange's efforts can end the war sooner rather than later, he might end up saving more lives than he has endangered.
Seriously? Who is freaking writing these web pages? It would have been easier to NOT include photo's and names than to build it in there!
Didn't want to incite a flame war - being conservative, you know how it goes ;)
Then releasing the documents change nothing, right?
