I think we've all established that graphics are not ALL that matter to a person's enjoyment, but the face is that gameplay is not the sole concerning piece either.

After all, you don't see too much demand for the original NES, SNES, N64 or game cube despite them having their own smorgasborg of great games, and not every family has all of them. So why did they fall off the shelves?

There is clearly more to the matter than Graphics and Gameplay, and claiming that the Wii sales prove that gameplay is more important than graphics is the troll part of the comment.

All cliche Slashdot jokes aside, I think I am always constantly judging video quality subconsciously and it does bug me sometimes when the quality isn't great even if the show is. For example, my room mate had downloaded the first season of Scrubs. Don't ask where he got it from, I'm sure it was through those intertorrentpiratebays. Anyways, the quality of each episode was about what you'd expect from a Youtube webcam video from 1998. When he put the episodes on a hard drive and watched them on the big 50 inch, he didn't really notice the quality that much. I found it painful and abysmal to watch, like each rectangular compression that occured was somehow taunting my soul.

This same room mate doesn't really see the difference between regular TV and HDTV, even though we've switched the channels back and forth on him. He claims his eye sight is 20/20, but we (me and my other room mate) doubt that, he can't read the sign down the street that we can. So I mean, I would prefer it if everything were capable of going above 1080p and more than 24 frames per second - but the entertainment industry seems to set these weird standards.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the original star wars on VHS, but I know I would enjoy it more if it could have the higher definition of Blu Ray or other HD items, but I know thats not really going to happen since Lucas went and recorded over the original reels. Oh well, enjoy what you can I guess.

And if they changed much at all lots of people would had complained.

Doubt they have made bnet worse either but then I haven't played it.

People ARE complaining - look at this thread you started!

Their DRM structure is about as Draconian as Ubisoft's new titles. I had purchased it while my desktop was at my parents house, I installed it and started the campaign on it. Now I moved into my new place last week - and I won't get any internet installed until tomorrow. When I try to play offline - under my account or guest mode - it says I need to authenticate my client and have 1 character created on my account.

Well - I did some searching around - What does it mean by "Authenticate my client?" Enter my CD key into my Bnet account. I did that. I created a character, thats how I started the campaign. Through some shitty DRM scheme, it is designed to delete the offline info of your account every 30 days so you'll need a need a net connection every once in a while to keep playing. (I've seen A TON of soldiers complaining about this. They bought the game to play overseas, but its not going to work for them). Also - until the most recent patch they released, the DRM bugged out and deleted that offline info prior to the 30 days, in fact, almost instantly. If you have a connection, you wouldn't notice, but pretty much everyone who activated it online, then went to try it offline - had issues starting, even in guest mode.

Honestly - the little bits that I've seen have suggested that its a little bit of a let down. They have stripped away some of the things that made the first SC so appealing, from pretty much every aspect of the game. In the storyline - you aren't actually yourself, you pretty much take control of Jim Raynor. I prefered being Magistrate, or Cerebrate, or Executor from the first one, it made me feel like being above the battlefield and issuing orders was an actual position one could be bestowed. But now you basically take on Jim, who was never a character I liked much anyways.

In terms of gameplay - everyone is complaining that Zerg are underpowered, though I think its really just that they have a steeper learning curve than the other races. Battle.net Matchmaking is still in some VERY infant stages - it rarely gets it right until you've had about 100 games under your belt.

Honestly, I'm not sure its worth the $60. It seems a decent enough game - but the struggles people have had with it are really putting me off of it, I would not urge anyone I know to go and buy it. There was even an issue on the technical forums where MULTIPLE people reported that the game borked their video card. (Though I think that was mostly an issue with people trying to overclock them or something and it caused issues on certain cards)

Education itself is more an art than a science - and nothing in the entertainment industry is scientific - so I don't know where people would get the idea that ANY method could be better at teaching than others. (I mean if classrooms were SO effective than we wouldn't see dropouts).

Every individual learns in different ways, and sadly, those who don't enjoy learning in a classroom environment are the ones who fall behind. Video games make excellent educators for those who enjoy playing them, mostly because the information introduced in them doesn't seem to be forcing you to remember it, it just gets lightly reinforced every now and then so it sticks.

I mean - anyone else here actually play through the campaigns and/or read the info provided in the Age of Empires series? I learned more about midieval history from those games than any classes I took.

You know, that's the RCMP's answer to everything. I have sent them so many tips on how to catch these guys - from the phone numbers they call from, the email servers they use, the post box they send from, and even how I as a regular citizen was capable of tracking all that info to at least a common city - if not an address that they could raid.

However, there is nothing I can do, and the police all claim that this kind of cyber crime isn't in their jurisdiction, so no one does a damn thing about it. I had someone sending me emails saying that they were going to sell me medical records for a low cheap rate - which already sounded sketchy enough as is but I decided to follow it through on the premise that if this was someone illegally selling that kind of stuff I could aid in his capture.

However, the RCMP basically told me that until they actually sell it - it wasn't enough for them to go on, and that following through would make me a criminal for purchasing it, and that they weren't capable of following the lead. That was the day I lost my faith in the legal system.

And H1N1 never should have made it to pandemic - it was less lethal than the common flu and only garnered such attention because it was new and we didn't know how profound it was going to be.

With that whole scare tactic, they were capable of getting millions of people to buy into this vaccine for a disease that hadn't fully been researched. I, nor anyone in my office or family went and got the vaccine that was paid for by our Canadian Health Care. However, certain Canadians were asking if they could recieve their vaccination needle to sell in the states - after all they are paying for the vaccination in taxes - should they get to decide how to use it?

Anyways, only 1 person I know (and I know quite a few people) ever got swine flu, my cousin out in Vancouver, and she is alive and well and only had like 1 week of symptoms. Its about as "here" as it ever was before.

Now, whether thats because a lot of people got vaccinated, or because it was never a big issue to begin with, all depends on how much tinfoil you are wearing on your head.

It was really a non-issue before, I don't know why anyone would have wanted it any other way. I guess it just opens itself to these kinds of stories. Because PLEX is negligable in cargo space - you can put infinite amount on a cargo ship and move them around now.

You could have some fool moving over a million dollars worth of in game plex and have them get blown up - and theres only chance that any of the loot is recoverable - meaning 1 Million dollars worth of money ends up in CCP's pockets without anyone gaining anything out of it.

You can buy PLEX (Pilots license extension) in game. This means that elite players that have spent the time developing the skills to make a lot of in game money no longer have to pay to play the game. It's a good system I think, rewards the hardcore fans.

Anyways, if you buy it in game - it would have to have been sold at a station, and the system is set up that you can't take PLEX outside of a station (or at least thats how it was about 3 months ago).

So - this guy would have actually had to have bought the time codes from an online retailer, activated them while in his ship while in space - and not in the safety of a station where he could have used them. It's likely he wanted to check the best prices in verse for plex and then sell them for massive in game profit - however he activated them before reaching that destination (74 plex codes CAN take a while to enter).

It's all foolishness in my eyes - I don't have any qualms with people who want to pay for in game money - be it ISK or WoW Gold or whatever. Eve at least balances it so that if you WANT to buy in game money, the PLEX is a solid and secure way of doing it, and its pretty steady based on the market of the game, and the real world value of Plex is always constant, whatever CCP says it is ($40 for 2 plexes or whatever?).

However, this idiot basically circumvented every provision designed to stop this from happening. Had he been docked at a station this would have been impossible.
