    HEy whats this dual processor shit.
    i hope apple does not make that mistake. one thing that would really turn heads is an x server with 4 - 8 proccesors. that would really make apple in the server buis. hopefully they wont stop at two.

    If apple dosent announce this proccesor in the wwdc. than i will have no choice but to go with an opteron cluster. the main reason why ive been holding off is because, the current G4's cant hack the scientific computing that we do intel beats the crap out of apple. i can only hold off projects for so long and then i have to get whatever is the fastest and most powerfull. there is speculation that apple wont announce this at the wwdc. if they dont i fear that apple will die on the vine.

    Their dirty. obnoxious. and cant really operate a computer. the fact is. panther may not even support 64 bit. and how could they get the hardware. do you really think that apple will give these guys an os that they deny exists. or even better do you think that apple would give then the hardware to run it. i cant read french but im sure that this is a fabrication.

    The iraq government kicked out fox cnn and aljezerra yesterday. but they did not kick out nbc. nbc is a notorios military slut. maybe something really bad is going to happen there and they wanted to protect the reporters that they liked. after the travesty of nbc firing a reporter for doing his job and not bowing to the us military i dont think iraq likes nbc.

    About a year ago i was playing around with diferent linux email systems, they seemed to be hard to set up and they didnt really have a unified paradigm. this would make large scale email hard. although. i guess i should look into this again.

    I worked at EDD in sacramento. and i think gnu would be great there. in california 90% of the real work is done by tn3270 this can easily be done in linux. the major needs are. email, word processor, spreadsheet and presentations for the managers. the main road block would be exchange most big corporations love that program and i don't think that there is a real alternative to it. but I'm sure that that could be worked out.

    Mozilla for a web browser.
    although i would set the managers up with Apples. the less they have to thing the better off you are, as a former it person for them i should know.

    I havent read the article so dont troll me. but maybe it would be good to include ways that companies can make a profit off of it. im not sure how. maybe a free basic version and then a upgrade option from the companie that can be purchased. star office sucks if youv ever had to really use it, if there was financial incentive then I bet the kinks would be worked out. IMHO

    Corporate america liking the idea soo much. they implement it in their office. a cell phone that tracks where you are in the office. so you don't have to worry about power or loosing it, its got a neat little pick proof collar. and a 3 foot extension cord, no batteries required. oh yea and just to protect you from yourself if you unplug it between 9 - 5 well dock you an hour pay.

    Im curios AMD says its going to release the 64 bit processor, but i cant really find a date for it. also usually you would have price guesses. does anybody know how much amd 64 processors will cost.
    another thing that i find scary. i ran some simulation software on an alpha and i really didn't see any performance increase. i hope thats not the case with amd.

    amd and intel are also junk proccesors that rely heavilly on marketing. any good engineer would prefer a g4 spark or alpha. and i think faster more powerfull for intell is more marketing than reality.

    This is rediculous. apple is the first companie to mainstream unix in a way that a secratary can use it. they are using the G4 processor. by the way if you look at the bech marks and the the way the processors are built. are superior to amd and intel. and you look at the engineering. mac products are guaranteed to work with mac products. the same people who think that pcs are superior to macs also believe that coors light will make you sexy and cool. intel and amd are called junk processors for a reason.
    for the first time in the history of computing unix can be used on the desktop. and here the slashdot crowd is being pessimistic.
    talk about silly.

    One thing that i couldn't find when i was looking for information on this thing was.
    what is the sustained io.
    as far as i know ata peeks at 100 but is about 30 sustained.
    at any tb rating this is unacceptably slow.
    does anybody know what the sustained throughput of this is.
