Here I was thinking that/. was a site filled with intelligent people...
It (should) not be just a curve-fitting exercise, there will of course need to be some refinement of the constants used to make the model usable. Most of the time, however, the data not fitting the model is due to some effect that was not taken into account in the original model, in which case you would come up with a model for those effects, and incorporate them into your existing model. Do a little curve-fitting, play with your constants a bit, then if it still doesn't fit, look for something else that you're not taking into account.
Again, this is the way science has worked for a long time. Our modern existence is as a result of this model. Why has the scientific method come under this attack?
Yes, it means that you refine your model. That would have been step 5, had I numbered the steps. Note that it does not mean that you decide that you were completely wrong and throw the whole model out the window.
Um, yeah, that is pretty much how the scientific method works. You make observations, then you come up with ideas about the reasons those things happened, then you work out what would happen if you were correct, then you see if that actually happens, then you refine your ideas about why things happen.
Everybody loves it when we use that method to cure and prevent diseases from killing people, but when we try to use that method to make sure the planet's atmosphere remains habitable for humans all of a sudden nobody likes it.
I know it'll annoy you, but I'll throw another 'if' at you.
If we do in fact have the resources, at this moment, to utterly and permanently eliminate starvation, then why is it still a problem? Furthermore, if we do have so many resources available, then isn't it the perfect time to indulge in some science?
Of course letting people starve to death can be an acceptable situation. If by letting 10,000 people starve to death today, that means that we will be able to feed 100,000 people tomorrow, then it would be sociopathic to let those 90,000 people die tomorrow.
ObamaCare impacted the financial crisis? How? What are you talking about with respect to the NLRB going after Boeing?
What you haven't taken into account was that Bush's $5T didn't include the costs of the wars in the middle east, whereas Obama put them back on the books. That accounts for the difference on its own.
Well, we'll have to reimagine the economy, but I like the idea of a future where we can all just lay on the beach (or wherever else you prefer to lay) and robots will take care of our every need.

I also thought it funny that 4 of your five points to Bush are about destruction, yet you follow it up by saying that Bush has more to show.
Ooh, I didn't think of that aspect. We could very well wipe each other out...

This isn't Twitter, there's plenty of room to post the full URL here. Unless you're just trying to hide a Goatse link...
Is there a code for when you trip over, trying to run away from a turtle?
Seriously? You overlook the actual problems in his post to try to make a point that you're already 90 years too late to make?
Considering that many businesses are still on XP, I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see a lot of them hold on to XP until 9 comes out.

Reminds me of a quote I heard a while back:
"Paradise will be when the schools get all the money they need, and the Air Force has to hold a bake sale to buy another bomber."
No idea who said it, and I've probably butchered it.

Yeah, the high frequency trading angle has been really played up. I thought everyone here would be happy about a new cable being laid.
but if all the financial institutions jump off the old cable on to the new cable, then the old cable may have to reduce their prices.
