This thing is hardly a phone any more. A phone needs to be able to call out and receive calls and that's about it. If we look at most smart phones there becoming smaller and smaller computers that have the option on the side to use it as a phone. Why not label these things net-books, I think it fits better. Sure there not full blown net-books but they do so much more then a phone needs I think it's better then calling them phones.
Microsoft Should not be making claims about there security If there so secure why is there a need for Virus software, why a need for Ad ware software, in fact why is there a need for any third party security software. If you want security you move to a *Nix based system. Linux / Unix are known to be rock solid solutions on the server and the desktop. They don't have virus attacks, they don't fall to ad ware and most of all they don't blue screen. If Microsoft wants to make a real argument then how about they start by making a half decent OS which doesn't completely blow on the desktop. That's step 1, step 2 once this new Desktop system exists make it so we don't need third party security software. I'm not talking about Windows 7, it has enough current problems of it's own. I'm not talking about Vista, it's about the only system bad enough to go on the same level as ME. I'm not talking about XP which is the only decent system Microsoft ever released. What I'm talking about would be a fundamental redesign at it's core and up. Then Microsoft can start to complain. But first they do need some software to support there claim of security.
On the other hand there right in the feeling to not feel good about Microsoft. Google does require more security then the average 2 bit operation and you just can't get good / decent or even acceptable security out of the Windows Operating system.
And yet elementary schools just wont teach that kind of stuff. I say start with Basic in grade 5 and by grade 8 have them in C and if they don't go to program in high school at least they can use a computer. Computer courses / learning in elementary school is a joke, a complete waste of time, they learn nothing. Just like wanting to learn to use a computer isn't wanting to learn to program. Learning computers at elementary school is not the same as learning computers normally. Lets start young and have them ready early.
Tell him he can play all the games he wants just he has to make his games work on Linux, then throw him a book on C and tell him to have fun. Oh and he can't use Wine or Cedega lol
The MSCE shows you know how Microsoft works and that means nothing. Getting all the Cisco level cert's means you know how to read and pass a test and that means nothing. The best IT professionals teach themselves and come up with solutions that aren't in a textbook or in a slideshow. The best IT schooling is the one your give your self.
I've been taught by people with Masters in the IT field who know less then high school students and I've worked with people off the boat who put Gates and Linus to shame. In IT you know it or you don't and the best way to show it is to make a name for yourself.
It's clear why it's Indecent, how is the shell script going to grab variable # and then multiple it with bang? This is clearly a case of bad programming, I'm offended to.
Clearly this is really a case of yet another group getting mad at the fact someone had some fun with a title. Just give it a break, they can't prove what S#*! is going to mean, hell why doesn't the company just make it up, maybe it means sand. They being offended about that.
There are only two types of people that think flash has a place anymore. Adobe employees and people who are employed to make flash objects. Like people who refused to learn proper web standards and css you will too soon become redundant finding yourself unemployable.
There's a third, the lazy ass poster to slashdot who thinks javascript and html can handle everything. There is nothing wrong with flash, it works. If you want to sit here and tell me you can bypass flash then I guess what your really saying is HTML 4 and Javascript single handedly will solve everything that breaks when we stop using flash. Flash is a great tool, you can use it for quick apps that need to run and be done, it doesn't use to much memory and every little stupid web app loves to use it.
If you want better features in flash sit down and start coding, don't give me another person's / company's solution to the problem which really doesn't exist. If you personally want to stop using flash, stop using it. If you company wants to stop using it, stop using it, just stop complaining about it. My statement still stands, you want a better product, make it and then release it for everyone.
After all thats what RMS and Linus did and welcome to the worlds greatest OS, GNU/Linux. However that works to so your probably going to argue me on that. Hey Windows is broken, perfect for you.
good point! But what I was really saying is that I've heard to many people cry and complain about what flash isn't and no one seems to say, "Hey I'm going to make flash into what I want". It's like this, if you find that no C Compiler did what you wanted, you could and people did make there own, GCC!, if your cookies don't taste awesome enough, you change the ingredients and try again. It's all the same thing. If you don't like what someone gives you start over and this time you make it.
I know as a true Linux user I shouldn't be expecting a user to go out and rewrite flash but if your not going to solve your own problem don't expect someone else to. It's the typical Windows user symptom, if it doesn't work complain until a service pack makes it go away.
Either complain about flash or don't, but if you do then you better back your self up by saying more then it's adobes problem.
If you boot someone from a job for a post on a social networking site the shouldn't you have to take every post at true? So if I say I'm god on my facebook, I expect to have 1000's of holy men on there knees.
Oh how flash isn't open, only works on Adobe approved systems,
Unless you get an open source implementation of the flash plugin and then it would be become open. So actually flash can be open, it's just the non educated user that doesn't know better. Nothing is stopping any user who wants to from writing a complete and total flash "language" from scratch. If you want to complain about flash then fix the problem and make your own, or else shut up because no one cares. Flash works, flash does what it does and it's decent at doing it.
Back to my point, the OS has a nice GUI, it's clean, it's compact and it works. The OS is complete and total crap. A mediocre job doesn't explain Windows, Windows is how not to design an OS but I still want to give it credit for having a good GUI.
On a developer view point let me put it this way, it's nicer and easier to build a Windows based GUI then say a QT or GTK Based GUI. Part of how your GUI functions is how easy it is for a developer to "plug" into it. GTK is a nice graphic system and I almost always design my GUI's with GTK but I have to real and it's damn easy to build good looking and solid GUI's in Windows.
This is yet another reason why I'm giving Windows the thumbs up for having a better GUI then most other OS's. If you want it done quick and if you want it function with little effort and be easy to use by most users the WIN32 API is for you.
If you want a power interface that's clean and ready for work you use GTK, but most users don't want a power interface they want transparent bars, 3d icons and completely useless applications to lay on the desktop to tell you the weather. You have to give MS credit for making the "best" by most users GUI on the market. I said I'm pure Linux and I'm a down right GTK lover but even I can be honest, if I want a quick and fast GUI I'll use Visual Stdio and have it done in an hour vs a day.
I'm actually a pure Linux user lol , but you have to admit Windows 7 has a damn nice look to it. I'm personally a big gnome supporter / developer but you have to admit the thing Windows has always had to sell above all else was it's Graphics.
I never said the GUI was from FreeBSD. I find the MAC OS interface horrible, it's a completely personal opinion but I've never been able to use it efficiently. If you want to be more correct most of the GUI enhancements came from the Open Source world and filtered down.
Windows 7 might of borrowed a bunch from OS X but then again OS X borrowed from FreeBSD. I personally think the Windows 7 GUI is a step forward in the modern GUI.
Microsoft has really lead the way in the easy to use GUI. Windows 3.0 really was the first good GUI and now that we at 7 we can see where they started and where they ended up. Windows has really lead the way in the progression of the GUI and they've done it well.
Windows 7 is a great release but you might want to make sure all the printers work first. I've had a hell of a time getting some of the older printers to pick up at all.
I think people on slashdot need to learn how to use the -1 mod. This post is completely on topic and completely relevant. It's not my fault people are addicted to online gaming.
I think it's a great idea to tax online gaming, just stop gaming online and then the problem goes away or if you want to keep gaming pay for it. Either way doesn't bother me because I don't do online gaming. So I think this is a great idea.

I think what we all want to know is how many taste great after a slow smoke with apple wood.
On the other hand there right in the feeling to not feel good about Microsoft. Google does require more security then the average 2 bit operation and you just can't get good / decent or even acceptable security out of the Windows Operating system.

haha true enough

One big innovation, they have the most shinny disks and most annoying product keys.
Apparently he missed on that one to!

LMAO YES!!!!!! thank you I hate Ubuntu, go gentoo, this was all in caps
