How is this interesting? Yes it might have been bad form of your manager to tell you about the complaint, depending on the situation. But the solution is seldom to say "hey asshole", which is basically what was done in this article.
What would happen if I did the same thing with my keys to my office building, would I spend even a day in prison? People get so blind to this, it doesn't matter if we are talking about 10 years or 30, even days in prison is too much for this. How did we get to talking about years?
The hysteria is there because we are talking about 10 or 30 years, things becomes so unclear when you start talking about years instead of days. I'm not sure you would even be placed in jail for a day if you gave someone access to an office building. That makes these kinds of cases ridiculous.
I believe that in the US people tend to go to prison for a long time, but I think even talking about a prison sentence for this kind of crime is a joke.
Newsblur works great, I just imported RSS feeds from reader and it worked great. Reader is generally more polished, but Newsblur is a little less crufty.
But on Mac people tend to download other browsers, it might have changed but most people I know run Firefox or Chrome on their Macs. And I must say half a billion in fines seems rather steep.
Well if you don't use Linux then it isn't a good match, I have no problems with Linux for my mother and in laws. I bought the same hardware the same software setup. Easy. A lot less support calls now (3 years) than before with XP, and I don't have to worry about virus protection that I have no clue about.
and I tried doing everything on Fedora 18 with Gnome, and.... that was just plain frustrating.
Comparing installation of a Linux Distribution to booting a Mac seems to be a bit unfair, even if the Linux install would just have worked. That said Feodora 18 has scared away more people than you, so that really is true.
Well you are usually satisfied when you pay premium and Apple has lots of premium options, and the others have lots of shit-cheap options. That probably affects those surveys a lot (if they have accounted for this then please correct me). People buy a shit Android phone for $110 without contract, and compare it with an iPhone which costs up to $800, it's pretty clear there is going to be a difference.
I would say as long as you don't compare apple with oranges they are all alike.
The temptation of mucking around with the internals in Linux is far greater than in OS X and Windows. That doesn't mean you have to do it. I haven't had a problem with Linux (Ubuntu) since 2005 when I decided not to bother doing stupid things with my distro.
I do agree that binary distribution on Win/OSX works better though, except for OSX which seems to make even the simplest binaries incompatible every 5 years (this doesn't matter much for me, but some people can't pay the Mac upgrade cost every other year).
Yeah but you all have *access* to broadband, it doesn't take much to cache content. If I could handle broadband access in the middle of South America back in 2001 I'm sure you can do that yourself. What I find harder is the need of constant online access, I don't want that by choice when I study, and some people really don't have that, so some interactive parts of these courses are hard to participate in.
So Broadband libraries can help a lot, and will probably be cheaper than building 1Gbps fiber to all rural homes around the world.
Having said that, I have an allotment plot and about 50% of my yearly calorie intake comes [such sources]
But you will not survive the "Great allotment war" that will be fought. In worst case you will be forced to farm your allotment and give 90% of the produce in protection fees. So the problem isn't what you do now but what your neighbours will be doing..
Right. BSides initiated this exchange... so long as you ignore the fact that Valerie Aurora initiated it.
Except founders of BSides had contacted them about the conferences before that, and that made it possible for Valerie to email them about this talk. So if you say "BSides contacted Ada ini. about womens issues at the conferences" then it's not a lie, and it's really not that much of difference.
For the record I agree that sex really should be off topic, there are just too many men that have to engage in locker room banter.
I'm not from the US, but I've seen fox news and npr, and I think you can objectively say that the shit runs deep on fox news. Just because Fox makes shit that is right-wing biased doesn't mean you have to drag npr down there just because they apparently are left-wing biased.

The guy behind the camera/postprocess did an amazing job imho.
So the magnet link was broken, but tinyurl supports magnets , because slashdot mangles magnetlinks.
That would be way to obvious.

You know you are trolling right?
My story exactly, find . -iname '*.exe' is the first command I run when I log on. They managed to put those files in the most amazing places.

the software I wanted to run didn't exist in Linux
Yes that seems to be a valid complaint, sad but true. I don't see the need to hold a grudge just because of that...

Well considering that wifi enabled things are getting cheaper every day I don't see why they have to be staffed all the time.
Multicast is problematic to say the least, it's a lot more mature than IPv6 but still it's not easy getting right.

You have to add at least $27000 to you savings account every month for 30 years to be a millionare, not sure skipping coffee is going to help much.
Please, crackers of course..
I've got post-it notes on my desk older than [10 years]
Still havent called mom.
But isn't she just upstairs?
The implication of this is very scary...
