  2. Trump factor on Amazon Battles Google for Renewable Energy Crown (bloomberg.com) · · Score: 1

I think Trump might even be a factor in the acceleration of the adoption of green energy. Many people who are older than 40 experience the change of the climate, and take it seriously. They cringe while hearing Trump's rambles about energy and the climate. They also realize that trusting a deranged carrot to do what it promised isn't very smart. Green energy is locally produced, by the owner of the equipment, and thus a much more reliable source than promised coal. Then there is the chance that the next president will reverse much of what Trump has done, resulting in extra costs for the company. Trump is a liability, not an asset for companies.

  3. Tesla will always have the credits for starting to make the first usable electric cars, but now that other manufacturers are making electric cars they are getting way overhyped. There are already cars out there that are put together better and that I would rather have than a Tesla. So let's please not worship the company.

I vividly remember the Columbine shootings and the thread here on /. about it that went on and on. People posted in it how horribly they were treated at school because they were smarter than average and didn't care for fashion and being cool. I was pretty shocked by that. I never had problems like that.

This. I felt the same back then. I was so excited when I was introduced to Linux back in 1996. Finally a system that did not crash when you looked at it and was capable of showing everything a computer could do, which was far more than Windows could. My housemate was (is still) a Windows fan, and I often looked at him wearily when he was fiddling with boot floppies, crashes and failed burns. I installed Linux from a CD that was in another computer and my burns never failed. And I had months-long uptimes while he had to reboot his PC every time after installing a new program.
I didn't go into ICT (physical chemistry is much more fun) but I used Linux as my main OS for 10 years or so before moving to the Mac because I was sick of still having to edit configuration files to get it do behave like I wanted to. With the Mac I have a Unix system that does most of what I want well and has a good interface, and I can still use the power of Unix if I need to. I do miss X though. It's almost never used anymore on the Mac.

  9. You're right. There aren't many. I stand corrected. But that doesn't mean we aren't doomed.

Anyway, let's see what happens with the ban. It's just a plan now, and with Rutte as PM it can still go either way. They haven't shown any real consideration for the environment yet so my hopes are low. But on the other hand, I would be very reluctant buying a fuel-powered car these days, because even if the ban doesn't go through their resale value will drop immensely in the coming years anyway, thanks to the electric car getting more and more affordable and popular.

  17. I think that will indeed happen but then driving in one of those will still not be a very pleasant experience. So I am not convinced cars that can be used by everyone will become as popular as some people would like.

  18. Thanks for dismissing all the people in my country based on a few bad experiences with some of them.

About the cars: that happens now already and will not change much during the transition to electric. I don't think fossil fuels will be banned soon. many other things than cars use them.

  19. I think the real world will be different. These cars will never be clean, be full of graffiti and other stuff like baby poo, animal shit and germs, unless they are cleaned after every trip, which makes them much more expensive.
